Write your own headlines as Celtic work below radar

1442

Peter Lawwell told Sky Sports he’ll not be rushed into making an appointment.  Football goes on holiday for the next few weeks as players, managers and (under normal circumstances) CEOs kick back before minds turn to preseason and transfers.  Even if Celtic appoint a manager tomorrow, his plans for next season will progress little in the immediate future, but the task is being addressed with some urgency.

The best insight I can offer is that the bookies and media know Sweet Fanny Ally about what is going on.  Know that when Celtic start to talk to a candidate, the first thing they will insist on is radio silence, so if the aspiring manager is talking to a jouno, chances are he’s not talking to Celtic.  The club will attempt to do as much work below radar as possible, but between now and the day of an appointment, newspapers will splash their latest ‘favourite’ to get the job over their covers in an attempt to get you buy.  You’d be better picking your own candidates and writing your own headlines.

I’m going to wallow a bit in European glory tonight.  All those photos of the Lions back in Lisbon has been inspiring.  What great man, what a great history they’ve given us.

Good summary of our potential managerial prospects and very unusual angle for David Moyes “rehabilitation with a difference”.

Davie Moyes is IMO the best option and I would like PL with the total consent of the board to push the boat out for him.

I am not in the slightest bit deterred by his recent punch up, on the contrary. As Archie McPherson said about big Jock

“He came to Celtic not just to manage them, but to battle for them”

IMO David Moyes would certainly do that, after NFL this must surely be a given for any new manager.

Anyway a manager with a good right hook is not a novelty at Parkhead. :-)

  4. I don’t think I’ve made a comment on the independence vote. I do know for certain nobody knows which way I shall vote, but maybe someone on here can help me with a question re the link between independence and Celtic/ Catholicism that seems to be a major concern.

If we assume that some of those who want a NO vote, believe that Catholics and or Celtic supporters will get a raw deal within an independent Scotland, does that mean they think things are ok now? Given the comments re Neil being chased out, which is quite a popular opinion on here, it would seem not, so, why wouldn’t you want change?

I don’t want Owen Coyle as next manager but, when I think of it, I didn’t want Neil Lennon as the last manager so,what the hell do I know?

I’d take David Moyes in a heartbeat.

Not surprising that the MSM/Bookies favourite is probably the last person the Celtic support would choose from their ‘list’.

Only saying what I have heard from someone involved at the time with Motherwell

Mr Park, is a fantastic football administrator, knows everything on players contracts etc, but, could NOT tell a football player if they booted him up the – u know the Tommy Gemmell kick :-)

I also hear there is many agents will not deal with Celtic, through Him ? No inside knowledge just what I have heard

Many will tell you he took credit for Hibs youths, again was not him ?

All hearsay, outwith what a collegue told me from his Motherwell days

    I predict a predictor!!

With the world cup just 18 days away, we thought it would give us all a wee bit of interest and fun, if we ran a predictor competition.

It will follow roughly the same scoring format as the league predictor but maybe with a few twists and turns, and the cost will be £10 each.

All monies will be paid out as prize money.

So if you would like to take part, drop us an email at cqnpredictor@gmail.com

Happy Lisbon Lions Day to you all.

Fair enough, not heard that. He definitely has too much influence, maybe that’s why they have Peter Houston involved with the scouting now.

To me the main thing is to get the structure right then fill the roles within that structure with the correct people. Not that bothered who fills the positions, have an opinion on who I would like to see but would support whoever it was (well, except Coyle :-))

    A few interesting facts.

The guy who will write Neil Lennons second book states that he left due to lack of support from the bored. Financial or Old Firm fellatio I will leave you to make up your own mind up on dependent on your own misplaced religous belief system.

Roy Keane threw his hat into the ring with the proviso that he has two jobs already and ” does not take a pay cut for anyone”

Would Roy have been in communication with MON maybe even Neil Lennon.

It took 14 years to drive him out of Scotland. 250 huns turned up for their protest outside Ibrox. NL did not leave at the crescendo of the hatred towards him.

I am sticking by my assertion that Neil had enough of our parsimonious Old Firm bored.

  19. Well I’m off to Thurles for the big hurling game Cork v Waterford, Come on the Rebels. Something reassuring at seeing Tony Donnelly revert back to his usual self sending out GIRUYS left right & centre, even though his post was a load of b******s. Election Results still coming in but Sinn Fein are going to double their local representation and definitely win 2 and maybe 3 Euro Seats. A Seismic change in Irish Politics has taken place. Hail Hail All.

To be in the EL after Xmas I think we need a squad of a standard that is capable of qualifying for the CL.

So we are on the same page really but the After Xmas aim allows for the vagaries of football to be catered for.

This coming qualifying round I thought that as long as we only lose FF but keep the rest we are in a much stronger position than last year when we lost 3 players, 2 of whom were important, one who was replaceable and has been.

However the vagaries of football are that the manager has gone and we have to play at Murrayfield.

I would still expect us to qualify but having been addicted to football most of my life I know that sometimes you get cold turkey days.

What about my point about the size of budget to meet the aim?

There is an obvious relation between the playing budget and on field success but what are the step changes required to climb the success table?

I would like to see some thoughts on that. I think the limit should be whatever we can recover from player sales or (if we get it right) reserves we build from 3 years CL money.

In that respect I think qualification this year is worth pushing the budget up for as long as the less competitive nature of the league does not cause income from that source to fall thus increasing what needs to be recovered by player sales.

I think the risk to success from the latter is a message that would need to be got across but would be more acceptable if a clear After Xmas policy and supporting budget were articulated.

Why not ask questions at the Supporters Forum?

Why did Neil and Johan not make a joint announcement ?

    League was won ?

Johan could no longer tolerate the abuse NL was getting ?

Lots of speculation been left to rot over the timing of that decision.

The whole scienaro surrounding NFL since he came here after 10 untroubled years in England is Scotland’s shame.

Our elected representatives bottled it to combat the “Racism “, yes racism in our midst. TD 67 was partially correct. If NFL was not a of a certain nationality / religion and of a character that would not lie down, would he have suffered this abhorrent treatment.?

Only in Scotland would a justice system refuse to see what the whole country saw.

And we consider giving these same elected & non-elected representatives a green light for more control. Turkey’s and Christmas spring to mind.

Most of us would agree that there’s an ingrained bias against Celtic that permeates Scottish football.

Many would say there’s a parallel bias in Scotland against those from an Irish Catholic background.

And some would say that Neil Lennon personifies the problem, or rather the way the problem manifests itself.

So, no ,things aren’t OK now.

There do not seem to be the same difficulties in England.

The problem seems to be something to do with Scotland.

I can see no reason to suggest the problem would go away if Scotland leaves the Union. Logic suggests that if anything it would get worse.

Well since it seems to be a day for the hard of thinking it presents an ideal opportunity to ask exactly what a Director of Football constitutes, what is his job description , aims & objectives , priorities etc ? is his role principally to act as buffer between the PLC & coaching staff …… I’ve never been able to fathom the need for such a position but maybe I’m just as thick as the smelly stuff residing in the neck of the preverbial bottle ….. :-))) .

Neil Lennon could and did handle everything the bigots and their their media cheerleaders threw at him. What he would no longer put up with was Peter Lawwell. Lawwell may not be in any rush to appoint a new manager, but the fact that he does not have one lined up suggests to me that he did not know he was losing the one he already had.

Neil deserved support during this close season, he helped generate turnover for Celtic in previous seasons, but he did not get it. What he did get was a belated statement that was an insult to the Celtic support.

I reckon the increase in time necessary for Peter Lawwell to vigilate for respective SPFL and SFA boards means we need a Director of football. Can’t allow the OF cat out the bag.
