Peter Lawwell told Sky Sports he’ll not be rushed into making an appointment. Football goes on holiday for the next few weeks as players, managers and (under normal circumstances) CEOs kick back before minds turn to preseason and transfers. Even if Celtic appoint a manager tomorrow, his plans for next season will progress little in the immediate future, but the task is being addressed with some urgency.
The best insight I can offer is that the bookies and media know Sweet Fanny Ally about what is going on. Know that when Celtic start to talk to a candidate, the first thing they will insist on is radio silence, so if the aspiring manager is talking to a jouno, chances are he’s not talking to Celtic. The club will attempt to do as much work below radar as possible, but between now and the day of an appointment, newspapers will splash their latest ‘favourite’ to get the job over their covers in an attempt to get you buy. You’d be better picking your own candidates and writing your own headlines.
I’m going to wallow a bit in European glory tonight. All those photos of the Lions back in Lisbon has been inspiring. What great man, what a great history they’ve given us.

Fraser Forster is 26 – relatively young for a goalkeeper. He has played a couple of hundred first team matches, most of them on loan from Newcastle. So he has probably not reached his peak as yet – and could conceivably play for at the top level for another 15 years.
He has developed considerably over the past couple of seasons from a highly promising young keeper to one with an international reputation. Another couple of seasons is all we can realistically expect to keep him. And when he does leave I think it will be for a much bigger club than Newcastle.

Re Lenny leaving…
I hope he enjoys his foray into English football and I enjoyed his company a few times and he was a funny guy who would talk and laugh about anything. He gave me some great times at CP and Barcelona was now I’ll never forget.
Whatever his reasons and he has already explained to the media good luck to him…it seems some people won’t or can’t believe what he has already said. Maybe he’ll add a few chapters to his book and we can all argue that as well.

Re new manager- PLEASE NOT Coyle. Apparently he’s the new favourite. However it’s quite clear that the support are, at best, divided over Owen. More realistic however is the fact that the majority of the support (imho) are stacked against such an appointment. Were he to be installed, I’ve no doubt that his tenure would be dogged by a significant level of the support seizing on every mistake, every bad result- in many ways an exaggeration of the Lenny period.
We need a manager we can all enthuse about from the off. We will need a unity of support and purpose for our club to re-enter and prosper in the CL
We will get the manager that will match the ambition and budget of the PLC Board………no more and no less.
We may get lucky and find an exceptional talent that can take us to the CL 16 or even 8 although it will be by chance rather than design.
The fundamental disconnect with the supporters ambitions is that CEO Peter Lawell depends on financial performance bonuses to make up the bulk of his end of year salary.
With falling SB and revenues the pressure is on him at every turn to sell players to massage the P&L sheet to his benefit.
All the talk is of managers becoming jaded after 4 years…maybe its the board who need rotating?
It is what it is……..
Thank Ghod for Phil Gordon. Does he get many offers of work in Scotland? Doubt it.
dont know if its been mentioned yet but St. Pauli have adevrtised already on their website a pre season friendly againsy the hoops on Saturday July 26th

If and it’s a big if we qualify for champions league next season I still don’t think we will keep Fraser Forster.
It’s an absolute certainty he will want to move to England to play next season and after gettin into World Cup squad he will have a few offers from premier league clubs. He still has a few years left on his contract so we will get decent money for him.
Also with Lenny leavin I think a few other players will look for a new challenge aswel.
Interesting summer lies ahead! Hopefully not in the hands of Owen Coyle!
In other news………
really enjoyed KMcK’s piece – he pretty much nails it on scoddland and has done so consistently. Kevin – the troops salute you, as part of the solution………..
Pastor Spiers likes to think he calls it, but he is very much part of the problem…………
apparently educated and well qualified but – Sleekit……all punches pulled while the real aggressor escapes the required scrutiny.

Who ever comes in needs our support from the off , after a few months we will see if any improvement has taken place , unfortunatly , the time scale for CLQ’s and maybe loss of players could make it a nightmare for him , unity might come with success , i ‘m not sure we’ll even qualify this year imo .
It’s great that the Lions are still being glorified as they should be. And CQN are publishing books by them. Hopefully any profits are going to charity. Keep up the good work. HH
Sitting here trying to avoid finishing the kitchen decorating ,Mrs TGCW staring daggers at me.Then an advert for the movie Megashark v Crocosaurus appears.Decorating it is then.
Neil Lennon left because of the people of this country who want you to vote yes hounded him out, because he was Roman Catholic.

And you know this for a fact as you spoke to him?
Why are people trying to link the referendum vote with NL leaving Celtic, have I missed something?
Best wished to South of Tunis who is currently east of Casablanca.

Tony D,
Lol, do you ever chap the door before entering ;)

Bit of a sweeping statement there.
I tend to find the opposite tbh. The OO for instance were quite vocal in their support for the no vote in Stirling yesterday with their Ranjurs tops on…..
I’ll be voting yes and I loved Lenny.
Wasn’t happy yesterday went into Stirling to get a subway. Couldn’t get near it due to the knuckle draggers marching. Probably not a bad thing as I’d forgot all about there hate fest and had my Celtic top on . Wouldn’t have went down to well I think.

Sounds like a line from a Smiths song.
Dr what for. Right so you arebdenying that Scotland has a anti catholic tendency? And claiming we are enlightened?mand in evidence you are using catholic schools and free prescriptions.
Let’s deconstruct your so called argument.
So in enlightened Scotland what happened to NL was okay was it? Or was it just an abboration?
Lionsroar McKenna says that Scotland isn’t really an anti catholic country. The fact he says isn’t really says it all.
Catholic schools next. We have catholic schools because we had to due to the discrimination. And they are constantly under attack and blamed bizarrely for sectarianism. The ongoing report into sectarianism accepted they weren’t to blame but oddly highlighted it. This is no sign of a civllised Scotland. In fact it’s quite the opposite.
As for your incredibly spurious prescriptions stuff. That’s got nowt to do with it. It’s simply we have chosen a different way to pay for prescriptions and in any case is part of the SNP bribe for independence.
Try and come up with a coherent point of view next time!!!!
The”better together”campaign must have cringed when they heard that the Orange Order were going to protest on their behalf.
Also, are there not enough potholes on the roads? Before massed groups of them march down roads dragging knuckles all over the place
I missed the start of the game yesterday due a little bit of rehab, does anyone have a link to th Lions being introduced…TIA…H.H.
Owen Coyle
Not a cat in hells chance
David Moyes
Certainly doesn’t need the money, and Celtic would prove a rehabilitation with a difference for a manager that if appointed could have both of the biggest clubs in the world on his CV. Could be the dream appointment for both, but seems destined to remain south of Scotland.
Malky MacKay
No thanks, low league journeyman and wasn’t quite good enough to play for Celtic let alone become a Neil Lennon
Henrik Larsson
Populist choice, and would certainly boost Celtic and the Scottish game, but struggling with a poor Swedish side and too principled to renege on a contract. – allegedly
Roy Keane
No thanks , horrendous record in club management, straightforward punter and pundit.
Paul Lambert
No thanks, startly poorly, but had a purple patch at Norwich, not quite sacked by Aston Villa, who await new owners.
Steve Clarke
No thanks very experienced second in command to where he’ll probably return somewhere in England.
Oscar Garcia
Makes the clueless bookies list because he speaks English, and found a reporter.

Wasn’t too keen on Owen, until I heard the name Roy Keane bring mentioned. Now? If it’s to be one of them, please make it Owen Coyle.

Was inconvenienced for a different reason yesterday. Went to get my train in Birmingham, cancelled. As were the next two trains. Creating merry hell , ranting about it being no wonder nobody wants to ” let the train take the strain” until I was informed that the reason was some poor soul had committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. Died at the scene.
Paradigm shift encountered and I made my way to a different station counting my blessings.
Fire fighters being lauded by all and sundry for saving so much of the Rennie Mac
art school….well done lads.
The under the radar route could be that, as per report in yesterday’s Herald, we are looking to change the structure of the footballing operation by appointing a Director of Football. At the moment we have a de facto DoF in the PL/John Park combo, but a proper DoF should be an ex player, charged with overseeing the whole football strategy at all levels and covering all departments. He should be the link with the CEO and the board and be allowed to work within defined budgets.
I mentioned on Thursday that a DoF, Head Coach, Asst Head Coach set up might work better than the current set upas it removes non footballing personnel from taking footballing footballing decisions and allows them to concentrate on what they do best.

25 May, 2014,
I have to agree with you on VVD.I really hope his performances at the tail end of the season were only, laid back, league is won types of displays. He did look a bit heavy as well.
Sometimes we go overboard about players. He is a fine CH,and will become an established international, but not just yet.Another couple of seasons with us,well one at least, and a string of performances in the CL,will boost his reputation.
Big Fraser is different. He has performed at the top level. He is now an international for a top(ish)nation.Personally,I think he would go back to Newcastle,he is a big fan, they are EPL,and he will get plenty to do,in the big televised games.
Ah well, that’s Fatima off the itinerary for today. It has taken the Greenock lads so long to disembark from the plane that we are running out of time. JD says he loves Our Lady dearly but he cannot live with the thought of missing the European Cup Final.
As compensation, we have just had our photo taken with Charlie Tully, a hero of mine since I first saw him sit on the ball at Love Street, a true Celtic great. Wonder if the present team will ever reach those heights?
Taxi drivers have come to an arragement with us about the cost of these vehicles booked to go to Fatima . We can keep the taxis until the start of the game, so we are off into Lisbon for lunch and then to the game. Greenock people doing it in style for a change.
I’m thinking there will be a good few going to Lisbon in three years for the 50th.
I’ll be one of them, God sparing.

It seems the library is gone.
Shouldn’t be too difficult to replicate. A bit of MDF and some wood stain. Sorted.
