You, your Celtic heritage and Vanessa

759

I’m sure many of you will be aware of the Vanessa Riddle appeal which has featured in the comments page in recent weeks.  Vanessa was diagnosed with a form of childhood cancer in 2009 but after extensive and difficult treatment received the all clear 17 months ago.  Last month her parents received news that she had suffered a relapse and that no suitable treatment was available in the UK.  Treatment is available in Philadelphia at a cost of £500,000.

Although the diagnosis is only a few weeks old the fundraising effort to send Vanessa to Philadelphia has already raised over £137k with increasing numbers of people becoming aware of the need on a daily basis (CQN’er, Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan is not a man to be denied).

To help raise awareness and funds, Taggsybhoy has booked Jury’s Inn, Glasgow, two nights next month, one of which, Saturday 11th February, he will hold a Music Quiz for the CQN community, with all proceeds going to the Vanessa Riddle Appeal.  You may have heard mention of the appeal but if you have not caught the details take a moment to update yourself here.  Getting involved is as part of your Celtic heritage as green and white hoops.  Don’t forget to book for the quiz, there’s a limit of 70 people for the room so you can’t turn up unannounced.  We’re home to the Highanders that day.

Issue 6 of CQN Magazine is currently being prepared; drop me a line if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

All this talk bout the Vogue n the Glen Bar brings back many memories. I remember the story my dad told me bout my granda running in amonst the orange walk on the main st and sticking his head thru the big drum and then running into the Glen Bar and they shut the doors and the huns couldnt get in to get him but eventually the cops were allowed in and they took him away. Only thing is as over the years when i’ve retold this story many other people have said that one of their relations did the same thing in a different town etc then i realised that my da might have been making up stories. Urban myth or urban legend to this day i dont know. What i do remember was that whenever there was a ‘walk’ on the main st there always seemed to be a lot of broken glass on the street outside the above mentioned bars.

David doesn’t play in the cup games. He’s only been involved in one cup game this season and that was due to injury I think. Hail Hail!

  8. Good evening friends and I hope we are all in fine form.

Palacio67 – I’ve watched the first 7 episodes of Series 2 and indeed it just gets better and better. Will get to the end of it by the weekend I expect and I’ll then need to go searching for Series 3.

Might have been true, there were a few real stories about guys standing up to the walk.

My favorite was a wee guy telling them they had to get by him and his mate, they were a bit perplexed as he was standing himself. He then produced a pool cue and began to set about all these at the front.

Police lifted him every year after that and made him spend the day in cells when the big one was due.

Anytime bud, you will be more than welcome. :-)

Do you remember Margaret Johnstone from the front cottages?, her husband Jimmy passed away a couple of years ago. Big family.

Jimmy ran the golf club up at the Great Northern Hotel for years. A very nice family.

Margaret passed away on Friday and was buried today. A wonderful person and a great friend to the Gallaghers.

The LAFitness thing is over this story: http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012/jan/20/la-fitness-gym-contract

A couple who have been customers for 6 years, lose their jobs, the wife is pregnant, and they won’t let them out of the 24 month contract because the redundancy letter doesn’t say the husband is fired. Apparently this couple have lost their home too and just don’t have the money to pay.

The story has gone viral on twitter…people are mad and just not going to take it any more.

    ================

Watched the first 3 episodes on Sunday night but the missus did not let me watch any episodes last night or tonight as we are watching the wee granddaughter. The wife takes her up to put her to bed about 9pm and I am under strict orders not to put it on as she is hooked also. Got to watch it together she says… wummin!

    Your welcome mate…:)

I am hearing that we are trying very hard to sign an experienced striker, most probably on loan. Nothing guaranteed but I am told that if PL manages to pull it off we will not be disappointed. Although nothing guaranteed I am told that it very probable it will happen.

One name mentioned has been posted here on other sites and twitter. However, there are reasons why this may not happen and it is not footballing reasons. I am struggling to get the other name as you will understand it is important to withhold the identity until any deal is done. One thing I do know he doesn’t play in the UK but I will not disclose the Country.

As I have posted before, it is just what I hear from somebody who does not guarantee anything but is not far off the mark.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  18. Whitecrook Tim, good points,

And yet, some still believe, Peter Lawell’s signing policy has cost Celtic.

In years to come people will recognise he is the best CEO we will ever have.

  19. Whitecrook – I thought Dalglish was the wrong choice for Liverpool. I was surprised at the good start he made but, despite the early enthusiasm of some Liverpool fans I know for the return of a legend I am sure they are beginning to ask questions of King Kenny. His spell of success as a manager was in a different era tactically, training wise, man management wise. He had also inherited a good Liverpool team and then was able to buy a good balckburn one when the first ever real free spending sugar daddy in english football left the others behind for a year or two. He was too long away from the game in my opinion.

But mainly I based my opinion on his short spell in charge of Celtic after Barnes was sacked. He had lost ‘it’ if he ever had it in the first place.

I think i wrote on here that it won’t end well. I stand by it.
