Your supporter groups, your club, your streets

1022

The umbrella group, Fans Against Criminalisation, issued a statement yesterday (kindly published here by Joe O’Rourke on the Association site) which details a number of events in response to Saturday’s policing on Gallowgate, and the resulting response from the SNP government.  Witnesses are invited to give evidence on Saturday (23rd March), with three protests planned next month.

To the relief of all, I’m sure, the statement also records that issues surrounding meetings two organisations had with the Club in November have been resolved.

Our Club and supporters groups are led by the kind of people you would trust with your most precious valuables, as many of us do.  They each strive in new and innovative ways to herd cats in the right direction, with remarkable success.  The tasks, carried out by hundreds of Celtic fans, of running buses, chasing tickets and navigating the impossible political challenges, is often thankless.  I know a few who wonder why they bother.

They bother because they care.  The office-bearers dedicate even more time looking after the common interests.  There are more Celtic heroes than those who wear the hoops.

I hear Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, has appointed Jeffrey Webb, currently head of CONCACAF, as chief of a newly created Fifa body to fight racism in football.  Mr Webb is a director of one of the largest banks in the Cayman Islands, known for its…. unique standards of propriety.  Nice.

Quick word for Tommy in Glasgow…. brilliant!

Based on my experiences living in Scotland over the last say 30 years, I have this very unsettling feeling that huns and masons will run the show in an independent Scotland, and I cant be the only one. I’m really hoping this issue will be addressed during the run up to the vote.

  2. agreed, it was completely unnecessary, although it’s also the case that the snp wouldn’t have obtained a majority in the scottish parliament as the snp, ssp & the greens fought for the same voters, particularly in glasgow

No chance in Hell mate. Those people only get the controls if we fall asleep at the wheel.

We are smarter, better organised, more astute, more active and our ideas are better.

We will run the table mate. Mark my words.

“No there is no shame in voting labour, however it is a sad but very true fact that the labour party your father voted for, has very very little in common with the one you are voting for.”

Hardly a shattering revelation and, because of this, I chose not to vote Labour in a few elections during the later half of the Blair era. The modern SNP is also different from that of the Willie Wolfe era but they still contain a few who want to narrowly define Scottishness and show intolerance of differing opinion. I can still find common ground with many SNP supporters but I find no compelling argument for upheaval. I will feel no better off or improved if we become Scotland or Scotland minis the Shetland & Orkney isles.

You can certainly be offered a free pen with your application. It won’t cost the Company anything because they won’t be sent out and most of the applicants will have forgotten that they had been promised one

  7. James Forrest is Neil Lennon! We are ALL Neil Lennon!

I’m still in 2 minds (nothing new there perhaps). But those standing together with the union campaign, will leave themselves adrift politically and with little credibility should independance happen.

  8. What i think is ironic and also very funny is that the news of the world by smearing tommy sheridan helped enable the snp to win a majority and give scotland the chance to remove themselves from the imperialist yolk.

When the number of Orange marches in Glasgow is less than the number in Belfast you can say that Labour have made progress in reducing anti-Catholic sentiment in Glasgow.

    **************************************************************************************************

As I have pointed out many times in the past Glasgow City Council only administers the legislation on parades, if the SNP govt want to abolish all marches it can at a stroke and GCC would have to administer that.

it is really only the Police who can alter or recommend to ban a march.

GCC is the only council that has brought in a policy to restrict parades this is why parades have reduced and the OO are at Labour ouncillors surgeries to complain.

As I said the SNP govt can ban any marches ask them why they have not tried to do it

People get ready. A new Pope, a new Archbishop of Canterbury, (who sounded very much like Francis) a referendum on whether Scotland should be Independent, (a question I believe favours the Yes campaign), and a debate about whether a new club should get promoted above its present station, (because it doesn’t understand that there is a difference of going from three to four to four to three), yes it is all very complicated.

  15. Simple question.

Are Celtic FC required, by law or any other reason, to pass on personal details if these are requested by the police?

The anglican church is catholic in nature, and is not similar to the majority of protestantism in Scotland, which is calvanist in nature. The English sent their calvanists (or puritans as they were known) on boats to the USA years ago to get rid.

    ………………………………………

Lawwell said he thought the Data Protection Act was adhered to but why the uncertainty?

He had Michael Nicholson, a lawyer with Harper McLeod in the meeting with him.

Would anyone hand over data to the people that were seen last Saturday with batons drawn?

I know I would only do so if the police had an order from a sheriff.

Lawwell is too cosy with the cops IMHO.

  29. Gene

If Celtic aren’t sure what the law requires them to do there’s a simple enough answer.

Refuse to hand over information and let the courts clarify what’s required.

  31. Gene's a Bhoys name on

I would be very concerned if Celtic offered details without proper justified requests – that’s not to say it isn’t happening – the club have a duty to comply with the data protection act

  32. Big Nan

I’m cautious by nature and am inclined to wait for all the details to emerge before climbing off the fence.

I don’t think the whole thing was helped by the statement several months ago by a Celtic Supporters Club alleging collusion between CFC and the Police which was subsequently retracted within a matter of days.

  33. ernie who answers no questions thinks he has the right to put a question to me and tell me I have only two choices of answer.

I’m sure if ernie and his like were in power many of us would be in prison for refusing to answer such questions.

Either that or the mental homes.

The point about the case against Tommy Sheridan was it suited everyone in Edinburgh. Labour, SNP, Murdoch, Police, Prosecution etc …

In many ways it reminds me of the way many post treaty dissenters were dealt with. Except they were shot. Their murders remain uninvestgated to this day. Except by some awkward journalists, who risk much in doing so.
