Celtic only UK former winner in Champions League draw

360

Celtic are Britain’s only former winner in this afternoon’s Champions League group stage draw, joining four English clubs, attempting to secure the trophy for the first time. Both Spanish former winners, Barcelona and Real Madrid, are there, as are Portuguese winners, Benfica and Porto.

Like Britain, only one of Italy’s former champions – Juventus – are in this season’s tournament. Past champions from Germany, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund made it, while Netherlands’ Eindhoven complete the line-up of nine former European champions in this season’s group stage.

Best of luck to all former champions.

Enjoy the draw, and remember, game dates can be changed, so be careful if you’re booking flights.

and remember lads …. my pal Dan and his lady will be at CP this weekend for their first game … so, if you are in or near 417, make sure you say hello to them. :)

I think I am almost as excited for them to go and experience CP as I would be if I was going myself!!

Laptop set for the draw. Pad set for airline booking site. Probably cheaper to book both of several dates rather than wait for final resolution.

  25. Hamiltontim,

I am no where near as nervous at the moment as I was on Tuesday. Couldn’t even watch the 2nd half. My mate phoned me as soon as it was over.

Mind you, when the games are actually being played, I may well revert to type. At the present moment, I am just enjoying being among the big boys once again.

While obviously the money is great, it is only of secondary importance (if that) to actually qualifying.

Hope you’re successful in your endeavours on Saturday.

  28. Can one of you clever chaps post the actual rule that says the huns will get no money from our group stage qualification.

I had a quick look there and the closest I could come up with is the only teams who don’t get a penny from the solidarity money would be ones in our association who made an El or cl group stage with us.
