I would love to know the thinking of Rodgers on why Janko was spared being subbed. That was as poor a performance from a player as I can remember in a long time.
That being said, I trust BR and I’m delighted he has got us through to the champions league.
I thought BR would have subbed Janko for Erik but I think initially he had one eye on using Roberts if needed. When McGregor got booked he had to come off and that’s probably why Janko stayed on.

Chris Gunter was mentioned as a potential right back, Chris Davies worked with him at Reading.
Hopefully that’s Sviatchenko over his injury and we can get a stable, unchanged defence over the next few weeks ahead of first CL game. Lustig Toure Sviatchenko Tierney with the manager’s keeper of choice behind them (probably DDV).

Lovely morning down here weather -wise. Great morning to be a Celtic supporter, whatever the weather.
Rather than blame the likes of Bitton, who, I thought, was tremendous when he came on in the first leg, I think we ought to appreciate that playing in the SPFL does NOT prepare our players for the likes of CL. We are playing proper football teams, who extend us, while in Scotland we are regularly up against hammer throwers, who are allowed to kick us up and down the park by the MIBs. Besides that, they usually play 10 man defence even at home. These games offer little to improve our players; so, it isn’t really surprising our young players seldom get the needed experience.
Today is a day to recover the shattered nerves and bask in the thought of great nights to come at Celtic Park.

Would be fantastic if Celtic get the go-ahead for enhanced facilities, like your suggestion of a cafe beside the superstore. I think that they had made tentative proposals to Glasgow City Council at the time of the demolition of the old London Road school but someone (Police Scotland??)
expressed reservations. That would be the icing on the cake especially if we spread rumours that it was being funded by the public purse.

Thanks for that info. So whatever pot we are in, if my geography is correct, the longest travel for away tie could potentially be Moscow – no more trips to deepest Asia. Let’s enjoy the journey in all senses of the word. HH
An interesting one to watch tonight is to see if Copenhagen (1-0 up from first leg) lose out to APOEL. Their skipper, Thomas Delaney, has been linked with us. A defeat and it might become more than a rumour.

We could name a few goats and accuse them of trying to escape after last night and no doubt Janko heads the list closely followed by McGreggor & Forrest , I saw Bitton getting it tight also last night but I thought he did OK. Brooney was another who had a poor night and the crazy thing is that James & Brooney had played blinders in the previous 2 games.
My point being players are not machines they will have good & bad games. Younger players in particular can shine for a few games & then go off the boil.
I thought O’Connell had 4 or 5 decent games but was poor at Perth, Brendan took decisive action & hooked him but his time will come again, he needs to do the same with Janko & McGreggor, I don’t blame Gordon for the 2nd goal but I would like to see what we have in de Vries.

The fact that BR indulged in a tactical reshuffle around the withdrawal of Forrest and McGregor does not change my point.
Last night was a night for “men to do heavy lifting”.
Some call people Huns for pointing out inadequacy, other call it childlike.
I get feckin annoyed when I watch Celtic players repeatedly not performing despite being repeatedly given the opportunity.
I see plenty revisionist stuff already on here this morning to the effect “we’re there and that’s all that matters.” That’s all well and good but I would like to see us be competitive.
I have confidence that BR will have plans how to strengthen and look forward to him doing so.
Thanks for the advice on the ads Bobby Murdoch and Davidp.
Agree Timreaper that Roberts would have been in BR’s mind but the poor decision making by Janko was leaving us effectively a man down all night.
I hope Roberts is fully fit and avoids more injury. He should be a big player for us in the Champions League.

I posted last night (quite late) about McGregors role in the first goal at the corner, and questioned his movement and what he was supposed to be doing. Did anyone else notice that at the time, or am I the only one completely puzzled by this? No mention by either of the commentary team or the studio analysts afterwards. Was I seeing things???

We had 30% of possession last night, less than we generally achieve against the likes of Barcelona.
Against hapoel Be’er Sheva.
Think about that.
Pretty much every player in the entire team played poorly, unable to do the basics. We generally conceded possession on the second pass, and rarely held onto the ball long enough to do anything with it. It was dire stuff.
The most likely explanation I can think of is that the prize was too big for the players’ mentality. We were anxious, spooked at times, and simply unable to play the occassion.
As a Pot 4 team in the coming Group stage, we’re unlikely to have to live up to a greater expectation than last night’s, but it is a concern that the group collectively is quite so fragile.
Brendan’s got some work to do.
