12 former Euro champions compete for Champions League

797

There has been a bit of revisionist nonsense expressed recently which appeared to damn the achievements of the current team by comparing them to the great Martin O’Neill side, but Martin’s team were known to struggle in qualifying on occasion.

Let the record show, four wins from four games.  Three clean sheets, two of which were achieved away from home.  The remainder of the tournament will present stiffer challenges but Celtic are a completely different team than the side which lost heavily in Utrecht two years ago.

This is what planned, sustainable, progress tastes like.

The Champions League proper will be difficult for Celtic to win; no fewer than 12 former European Champions battle to reach the Wembley final, but we are one of them and we’re there on merit.  After a four year absence the excitement of those early Champions League nights at Celtic Park against Rosenborg, Porto and Juventus has returned to the club.

Bring it on.

  1. The things you see on FF when you’re off the drink:

“Not surprisingly it is proving almost impossible to get any journalists in Scotland to ask any questions relating to the murky relationships between those charged with running the game in Scotland (for the benefit of CFC.)

A thought occurred to me that we could play a part in forcing the points that are made on here and in other forums, on to the radar of the average guy in the street and from there to the point where journalists need to act.

By picking the right live televised match from Ibrox we could have several large well made banners asking the questions we want aired followed by equally well placed banners with the answers.”

  2. Re. moving St Johnstone home game.

Moving game to Sunday 11th nov may suit us as we are in CL action on 6/7 Nov. Maybe Celtic have looked at dates and said yes. No CL on 13/14 Nov.

I’ve got a new ‘official’ Glasgow double ‘h’ word for you. It’s there for all to be seen. Have a think while I go and get a picture of it.

“I may be some time” as captain Oates said, in fact I am taking my life in my hands to get this snap while wearing a Celtic emblazoned top, smile and ‘GIRUY’ attitude visible to all hun detectors from a range of 400 yards.

    See if you can guess!

    Hail Hail

Any new articles on the way as to who the cuple of players Lenny stated were due foe medicals tomorrow?

Jelly and Ice Cream in the CHAMPIONS league

  8. Regarding Sammy, he had another great game last night and is a real star for us. However, it wasn’t even two weeks ago when a poster on here was advising Lenny to tell him to ‘GTF’.

    Football supporters eh?

  9. Looking forward to the draw. Pity we are in pot four though, one more team going out and we would have sneaked into pot three. Still, at least we will be in the hat.

OK, I know it’s not a hat. But it sounds better than being in a ball in the big glass bowls, doesn’t it?

Gordon_J – One Campbell Ogilvie has been quoted as saying that the new league set up will be designed for the benefit off all clubs.

And as we know, all the other clubs “need” a “strong Rainjurs”. (thumbsup)

What about the away games? :-)

£2,000 minimum…..that’s a lot of fags and vodka to bring back! Get your orders in early!

    B A N G!

    That was the bank manager!

    Hail Hail

  12. Lennon n Mc….Mjallby whilst standing on the shoulders of giants i hope those High Flying Birds don’t give him too much trouble.

  13. I mentioned last night, while full of the amber nectar, that I thought the Green Brigade produced another fabulous display at the beginning of the game. I always wonder where they get the money and time to achieve such productions and suggested that they should be allowed at least one match day where they could do a bucket collection for their funds. Thoughts HH

Hungover this morning but not as bad as Estadio will be on Sunday HH

  14. hailhailplc, it sure was.

Philvisreturns, that’s what happens when you eat crab for breakfast.

    Voguepunter, not me!

navanbhoy, news on signing when we have it!!

  15. Dobbo

My Legia Warsaw play against Rosenborg tonight and I know for hundred percent that Henriksen is sold to AZ Alkmar.

  16. Paul67 – I want Real Madrid. It is the one we haven’t had recently. Give me Anderlecht in Pot 3 for a pop at euro football after Christmas and that would be ideal.

If we get Del Piero then we both know who will come out of Pot 2, and he will score against them. Those fairytales always surround our club….

Gretnabhoy – . I always wonder where they get the money and time to achieve such productions

There is a man. A certain man.

And for the poor you can be sure that he’ll do all he can.

Who is this one? This favourite son?

Who by his actions has the traction magnates on the run.

Who likes to smoke. Enjoys a joke.

And wouldn’t get a bit upset if he were really broke.

With wealth and fame, he’s still the same.

I’ll bet you five you’re not alive if you don’t know his name.

What is his name? It’s Charlie Kane. It’s Mr. Kane.

He doesn’t like the Mister. He likes good old Charlie Kane.

    (thumbsup)

Any post match comments from Hareide?

I noticed that Neil had a wee dig at him for previously showing a lack of respect to the team.

  19. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

What time is the draw for the Champions League Group Stages?

It just rolls off the tongue lovely so it does!

  20. philvisreturns on

Gordon_J – Yes, he’s certainly not a sleekit hun, biding his time hiding under a rock in the hopes of escaping scrutiny. (thumbsup)

  21. A couple of observations. Commons was interviewed after the win in Sweden and I detected some real ambition in what he was saying. He described his goal as the most important in his career. Great to hear. My men of the match last night were Wilson, Commons and Samaras. Well done all three. What really concerns me is giving the ball away in midfield and how Helsingborg were the first to all the knock downs and seemed to come off best in spells of ‘ping-pong’ – you can’t give the ball away like like in the Big League – a better team will punish us. Wanyama, Mulgrew and Broonie were all guilty of it. That said, Wanyama and Broonie are superb pressers and tacklers. A general well done though. can’t wait to go on a couple of away trips. Awesome!
