I don’t buy into the continued narrative that we struggle all the time with cross balls and set pieces. The stats beg to differ. Tonight was the exception this season, largely stemming from a whirlwind start to the 2nd half by the dons which I think took some of our new guys by surprise.
The first goal for them was well worked and we didn’t react quickly enough to the player dropping off. The second I Ferguson is a threat in the air and I think abada was marking him – wrong choice. After that I think they had one or two half chances.
We have played better this season and dropped points.
Good lesson for Matt, Daezen and Reo – it’s sometimes sheer hard graft that is required to win this league.
Perhaps Ange left them on to give them a taste of that perhaps he didn’t want to create any sense of panic by reacting to obviously to the change of momentum, perhaps he wanted to let the players ‘work it out’ as I’m sure I’ve heard him say before.
No damage done. Lessons taken on. Chance to rest the new guys at the weekend.

At 2-0 it’s a case of going to script, without having to work too hard for the goals. A third and it’s a relaxing watch, set pulse to calm.
Maybe a touch of complacency enters the collective heads. A new team takes time to play with one brain, a term Rodgers liked to say.
The next set of fixtures should be a tad easier.

Well that was a nervous second half , midfield completely fell out the game , can’t complain to much but jota mieda and Abada not at there best , same for hitati o riley and McGregor . In fact scrap that the team had an off night . We’re still top . Thought McLeod was putting words into that woman’s mouth and for Reynolds Job at bbc beckons .

Despite being 2 goals up in the first half you could see we weren’t playing with our usual intensity , but I fully expected us to put the game to bed in the second half .
Instead , Aberdeen came out the hungrier and had us rattled at times . Not quite sure why we seem to do this , maybe the fact that some of our players fell below their recent standards , Hatate , Maeda , Ralston , even Jota despite his two goals .
calm down bhoys calm down , we have starfelt in the heart of our defence who can’t header and is easily bullied but as long as we outscore the opposition we get the 3pts.

Starfelt won every single aerial duel he was in this evening. He was unlucky not to block their first goal and he was immaculate with his passing throughout.

Still missing that physical kind of dig in midfield.
The Dons had a young fella playing deep mid…Brown, I think his name is ??

As I said, a timely reminder to our ghuys – take your eye off it, you’ll get punished.

Turned out to be a bit trickier than it might have been but still a good 3 points at what can sometimes be a difficult venue. Brings to an end a tough run of fixtures during which time we have clawed our way past a shaky Sevco. I fully expect us to kick on from here and we can watch them implode in a cloud of bile and angst in our rearview mirror. HH

starfelt looks a player when not under any pressure and gets time to stroke the ball about with ease but press him and it’s a different story , only saying, top of the league, so everything is rosy.
I hope Shaun Maloney gets time at Hibs. He’s had a tough run of fixtures. However there’s no room for sentiment and if getting a doing from us means he gets hooked then so be it. That’s a tricky fixture in among the next few.
Being a bit ‘off it’ tonight might just prove to be a blessing.

I actually thought Aberdeen competed reasonably well in the first half. They fought hard after the break with a very physical approach, we struggled to gain a foothold and it seemed inevitable they would score. Collum allowed some physicality and our players got a bit rattled culminating in silly free kicks being given away. We stepped it up after the equaliser and shut there door with the introduction of Bitton. Meada was a bit toothless, he offered a lot of running but i feel Kyogo would offer much more quality. Overall a great 3 points considering it could easily have been points dropped.

He was under pressure tonight and played well.
Have you had a bad experience in IKEA or something?
He is growing and Growing as a Celtic player, IMO.
Our latest recruits have been in the door just weeks and performed very well at a very hard ground.
They will ALL be much better off knowing what its like here in Scotland after Ange keeping them on the pitch longer than most wouldv’e anticipated. I thought Matt was Sensational first half. Take a bow who scouted him from a Lower English League – he is highly skilled.
This is easily wan of the most Exciting Celtic teams I’ve watched.

The midfield went missing in the 2nd half and the wingers didn’t track the overlapping fullbacks of Aberdeen. We lost control of the game for about 20 minutes and it cost us 2 goals. No reason to pile on Starfelt.

We beat Hibs in the league game before it as well
A great run of runs against the leagues best teams
the long wait is over on
Stargell did fine tonight as he has for a while.
For me the weakness in his game is that he can’t pass with his left foot with any confidence.
If he’s given the time to get it on his right he’s grand. If not and he has to use his left he seems to panic a little and often gives it away.

I have yet to see a team defend every set piece perfectly. We have been defending well at free kicks as corners this season imo. We also allow very few chances from open play, meaning goals we lose are more likely to be from set pieces.
I think anytime we do lose one, the knee jerk reaction from media and some supporters is that Starfeldt is weak or Kennedy is to blame for poor coaching.
That awkward moment when Rob McLean of the darkside turns up on Aberdeen TV and he’s nearly greetin for VAR.
Celtic blitzed Aberdeen but only managed a 2-0 by half time scoreline which bizarrely we squandered with the loss of two poor dead ball goals. Goals, the side will see again on screen in Lennoxtown, Aberdeen who parked the bus could only throw caution to the beach end and two set pieces gleefully awarded by Willie Collum sparked a fine goal by Jota, that was enough for Celtic to complete a winning sequence of games, that could in the end kill Sevco and their associates.
AP used the directness of Abada and Maeda to great effect, Celtic supporters scratch their heads over O’Riley’s fee and CCV and Starfelt held pretty firm in what is always a tense freezing fixture, in August.
Ange should have noticed early into second half that we needed changes.
We got away with it. But he once again waited too late.
We were crying out for GG up front and a bit more physicality in midfield.

5 nil was being bandied about site pregame, a lot of Supporters were carried away & why not,
We had mollicated the Hun pulled back a 6 point deficit and were leading the League.
Both players & fans have received a big wake up call and that is not a bad thing,
Especially as we didn’t drop points,
Pressure a bit eased now for a couple of weeks, Raith & Dundee at home & a free hit with the European games.
Probably not as good as we thought but not as bad as we showed tonight either,
The journey continues.

Centre halves (in Old money) often get blame where none is due. CCV and Carl have been solid lately. Neither goal was anything to do with them.
There were a few passages of play where their passing and ball carrying helped to steady us.
Credit to Aberdeen for playing the way they did. They have a decent squad who are clearly underachieving.
