  1. I’ll try again

The commentator on Aberdeen TV was talking about how pivotal the victory at Pittodrie earlier in the season was, he even called it turning point. My son said he knew far too much about us not to be a fan. it did make think he might be a lurker or a poster on CQN.

  2. CELTIC40ME

One of the commentators for Aberdeen TV was former Felt and Don’s player, Willy Gardiner.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he maintains a soft spot for the hoops.

I was unfortunate enough to be standing in the Jungle when he made his debut for Celtic in, if memory serves, an early season league cup sectional match against ? St Mirren. Scored two own goals and was culpable in the loss of a 3rd.

I suppose the only way is up after that kind of debut but cannot recall how his Celtic career panned out after that inauspicious start.

The commentary has been great both times we’ve been there. Great to get some Celts in the there awAy from the mainstream broadcasters where they seem to feel obliged to criticize

All the commentaries from the other teams tv channels that I’ve watched have been fair and even

  4. It’s a ploy the mibs use continually against us , the free kick just off the touch line 20yards from goal . Madden has perfected it as has the rest of the loyal Glasgow referee association . We are in pole position , they will do all in there power to alter that , they had it planned to stop the ten , as it turned out due to some of our players downing tools they weren’t needed , but intervene they will in the remaining dozen games and you can take that to the bank .

  5. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

I’ve found the commentators on Aberdeen TV, Hibs TV, St Mirren TV, Livingston TV etc. etc. way more enjoyable.

Call it as they see it – partisan? Yes, but also objective.

in comparison you’d think SKY, Shortie and the rest of the SMSM had an agenda.

    Hmmmm…

  6. I don’t understand the Starfelt haters i thought he ha a very good game as did CCV.Midfield was bullied a bit in the second half so that will have to be addressed.Stop moaning and enjoy.

  7. Outrageous “highlights” by the Beeb; 2 huge game changing free kicks which led to goals for Aberdeen and no coverage or analysis. Watched the game on Hesgoal and neither the dons commentary team nor their fans claimed for the first one which led to a goal ! Still haven’t seen the “infringement ” which led to the free kick for the 2nd goal.

Not going to comment on the Huns penalty other than to say we would not have been given that in similar circumstances.

Another point…are we the only league in the world where a team like Celtic has to play back to back away fixtures ? Why does that have to happen ? I’ve never seen that in the EPL other than as a consequence of postponements whereas up here it’s a regular event and part of the fixture list ! Incidentally, a fixture list which has produced an away game for us on Boxing Day (or the closest day to it ) for at least the last 6 years.

The SFA and the SPFL are both corrupt and need to be called out at every turn.

Made hard work of that 🤔

My opinion, there is times when we just need to clear the lines along the back line, particularly the full backs, instead of trying to retain possession and pulling the opposition on top of u

    ————

Sorry, I disagree. How many goals have we lost due to playing out from the back.

Since all our goals are conceded from set pieces, allegedly, the answer is “incredibly few”.

Versus how many goals have we scored because we played out from the back. Lots.

Can’t find the source nor remember the exact numbers, but the stats say that hoofing the ball up the park is 40% (or something like that) more likely to lead to conceding a goal than playing out from the back.

The trouble is that when teams lose a goal due to errors when playing out of defence it is too easy to blame that method. A bit like zonal marking being at fault for conceding goals from corners.

It’s less obvious when the ball is cleared up the park, only for a goal to be conceded in a relatively short time after that.

  9. And first choice striker

Changed times from earlier in the season when we panicked every time he made a run

  10. They’re clearly heavily reliant on the heavy one

Which is fine until he loses the plot again or stops scoring. Not great to have so much riding on the form of one highly volatile player

  11. Tim Horton

Maybe Starfelt is doing what they never will

    Wearing the actual hoops.

Envy eh,waste of time,so unCeltic too.

Your observations are spot on SS. Playing out from the back when successful leaves you a tremendous amount of space to get quickly upfield and score. Hoofing the ball up the park, whether by defenders or GKs, inevitably sees it fall to the feet of the opposition. It should only be done in emergencies. I’mnot sure it usually leads to a goal but it certainly tends to lead to another attack by the opposition. This is true in the EPL as well as the SPFL, for “wee” teams and top six teams.

  14. I had an interview today at work so only got to watch until the 40th minute. Finished up with work call and noticed my family chat had blown up and when I checked the score…….. man….. Off to have a wee read back, watch the highlights and reports.

3 points was always the job. Sure I’ll read some “throwing the rattle oot the pram” comments.

  15. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    We won.

    Without playing our best.

    That’s what champions do.

We expended a lot of emotional energy in previous 2 games and just couldn’t hit those heights tonight at a very blustery Pittodrie.

Ange clearly looked disappointed in the performance.

Bit of a change up at the weekend then go again on Thursday with the A-team.

My tuppence on the criticism of Ange’s use of substitutes.

Don’t know the guy. Never met him.

But he strikes me as a leader who is constantly challenging his players to own solutions to problems as part of their development.

    You’re tired after 60 minutes?

You’ve struggled to impact the game?

    Tough.

I selected you to start the game for a reason.

Deal with it. Do your job.

Don’t wait for a sub to rescue you.

    Night all

  16. For Starfelt,re Taylor,re,Forrest,re Biton, and now more lately,a guy who has not played for over a year,Jullien.Just WTF he has done recovering from injury,I don’t know. The whippers need a whipping boy. That helps them play better, dontcha know.

    Pathetic.

  17. Unless I missed them, there was only one poster criticising Starfelt and 50 saying he played well.

  19. SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 9TH FEBRUARY 2022 9:06 PM

Looks like we got away with one there. Abada came back from offside position and blocked Bates when Jota scored

Cue Raging Huns and journo pals

    ………………

its NOT often I disagree with you SFTB but..

I AGREE that some Refs MAY have given a FOUL against ABDDA, and chalked off Celtics goal, BUT….Ive watched it numerous times and foe ABADDA is NOT interfering with play ( He made NO attempt to go for the Ball, and simply ” STOOD his GROUND), and Bates just walked into him. Where is ABADDA supposed to go to, as IF he had moved FORWARD he would mot likely have been given OFFSIDE…..and as I said, ABADDA just simply STOOD his ground, WHY should HE move to accomodate Bates or anyone else ?

I KNOW I can be BIASED..

    LOL

    HH Mate.

  20. I see people talking about the Aberdeen TV commentary and how fair it was , one of them was Willie Garner who played for us. He was an ex pupil at St Mirins Academy Paisley although hes not the most famous footballer to come from thar school , that honour belongs to our ex player and manager David Hay. There are a few of that Alumni on this blog myself being included. HH

O Riley looks so much like Rogic at times.

    …………

In the build up to CELTICS THIRD Goal…have a look at the SUPERB Pass from young O’Riley to Gregg Taylor who was wide Left.

We are ued to seeing Big Tom making Passes like that.

Matt O’Riley MUST be related to Big Tom ?

    LOL

    HH.

  22. RC on 9TH FEBRUARY 2022 9:49 PM

calm down bhoys calm down , we have starfelt in the heart of our defence who can’t header and is easily bullied but as long as we outscore the opposition we get the 3pts.

    ………….

Thats very HARSH on Carl Starfelt,

For a Defender who can NOT head a Ball according to you, he has been PART of a Celtic defence that has lost LESS Goals than any other Club ?

Carl wasnt the worse performer in that 2nd half.

  23. CELTJAMER on 9TH FEBRUARY 2022 10:19 PM

I think the Aberdeen no 2 may well have been playing Abada onside when the ball is headed forward.

    Its very tight.

    ………….

Ive watched it again this morning and I do believe that you are CORRECT young man !

Also, Whether its ABADDA or any other player, you are not OBLIGED to move anywhere simply because an opposition player wants YOUR SPACE ? So IMHO, ABADDA did NOT BLOCK Bates…why didnt Bates go round him ?

We won at a difficult place, another 3 points.

Move on. We are on the march.
