AIK, Thistle, James Forrest again

281

While we hoped for a backlash, the performance on Saturday against Dunfermline was in the post.  Scoring 12 in two league games this month is more of a measure of where we are right now, but Tuesday’s defeat cast a long shadow.  Whatever hangover exists, it needs to lift by Thursday.

Two pieces of positive news arrived yesterday: a home tie in the quarterfinals, against Partick Thistle, and AIK lost at home to Kalmar.  Thistle will be no easier than Dunfermline, but they are the only lower league team left in the competition and the tie is at Celtic Park.

AIK rested five who eliminated Sheriff on Thursday, but as we know, a defeat at home to a team with significantly fewer resources damages morale.  AIK will slip four points off the pace if Djurgarden win at home tonight.

For a while on Saturday, it looked like our monopoly of domestic trophies could end.  Winning 28 consecutive cups games is unfathomably consistent, even the greatest teams have off days.  It is a measure of James Forrest that he again delivered.

  1. Thinking about Tom Boyd’s comments – he never said beaton was biased he only referred to his drinking friends. So by saying he was biased the SFA are admitting they know of his associates and their leanings – if you get my drift.

Thanks ghuys, it’s been a scenario in the offing for a long time.

On the debate about yet another Celtic manager loosing the dressing room…

I’m not at all sure what’s going on. One thing though caught my eye, might be bizarre and someting and nothing, it was this…

In recent seasons, Broony has been celebrating by strutting round the pitch at the end of matches like a boss – six packed without his top off.

Now he got his hoops ripped of him in game the other day and he went to the touchline and got quickly changed, it could have been the angle of the camera or his poise while changing but he certainly looked like he’d lost conditioning and put on a few pounds.

Might be nothing but he certainly wasn’t on his usual form:(

    Hail Hail

If you were not referring to me as sevco then that comment had absolutely no relevance in the post.

Yes I said his actions in liking that post were sleeket as were his denials. Nowhere did I refer to him as a liar. To talk about putting words in someone else’s mouth.

Next you will be telling me that he didnt reach to palm that ball away with his hand.

Both instances could be summed up as a moment of madness but that doesn’t mean there was no intent

  4. ‘Yes I said his actions in liking that post were sleeket as were his denials. Nowhere did I refer to him as a liar. To talk about putting words in someone else’s mouth.’

And again. I said you IMPLIED he was a liar – ‘ been so sleeket to have liked a tweet then claim it was an accident.’

Your use of the words ‘claim it was an accident’ IMPLY he is a liar. Do you understand?

Bad enough De Broonie being part o the twitterati and liking up tweets derogatory in nature but don’t tell me he’s back oan the kebabs.

Paul67, how many new log-ins to the blog have there been in 2019?

Well not necessarily, I’m sure even you, had been caught in an unflattering camera angle…😁😉

It was a something and nothing observation at the time that on reading the “gossip” had me thinking…

    CELTIC MAC @ 8:56 PM,

Well, I was kinda thinking if Broony did get offended by the offer of some soaring sandwiches, he may well have preferred a pitta of spicy offal instead…

  11. Got an interesting perspective on things Celtic today whilst in the deep end of the pool in the club. I felt the water rise as a big guy got in near me. The ginger beard confused me until I saw the green tattoo – big John Hartson back in the club relaxing from speaking engagements and charity golf days out.

Talked about his European performances back in 2002/3 etc. He’s a great guy to talk to, very open and a big Tim to boot. If you ever get the chance, read his book, Please Don’t Go. It’s about his career and his battles with gambling and cancer amongst other things. A hard read at times particularly when he very nearly lost his fight with cancer.

Puts life into perspective. Glad he’s still with us.

Your use of the words ‘claim it was an accident’ IMPLY he is a liar. Do you understand?

No it doesn’t. A liar is a person that tells ‘lies’; a fabricator of the truth; someone that repeats lies. Does that help you?

I remember a few years back the trenchant criticism on national TV.of Craig Thompson by the marvellous Chris Sutton.occurred over a number of weeks

This occurred over a number of weeks and about different games.

Hope to hear Chris coming out with his ” take ” on Tom Boyd`s comments.

  14. My word, Wolves show how to take a corner. You would think that with 23 of them in one game, we should be practicing something like this.

Hello – this is BGFC (reduced to using my bhoy’s log-in!!!)

Just asked him this – he said – “….ME, ME, ME !!! :-)))))…”

OK – maybe he’s not entirely new :))))

Oanywho – don’t know about anybody else, but we are buzzing about Thursday. Enjoyed the Europa League last year much more than the pumpings by PSG and Barcelona.

It was a decent group and felt as if it was made up of genuine European teams – Salzburg, Leipzig and Rosenborg – felt like an old-style European campaign. Would enjoy something like that during the Autumn to come.

Prefer that we were good enough to feel the same about a tough ECL group – but realistically that would depend on a much more favourable group draw than we had under BR (and, of course, qualifying in the first place).

So – as things stand – main aim is to qualify for the group stage – hope we don’t get gubbed by AIK !!

    A welcome entry.

We were going to be a Pot3 Champions League Group Stage team. What’s the script for the Europa League draw?

Don’t answer, pal. Just like you and your dad, I couldn’t care less.

    Do me a favour

Can you write to FtSFA, and ask how Mr Petrie is still in position ?

He no longer has an affiliation to a club ? Therefor should not have an official role at FtSFA ??

Unless there’s been a rule change

Another thing, can you ask the SPFL view on their new governing board, I believe a certain professional was recently slaughtered in court by a senior judge, for being liberal with either the truth or his recollection of recent events, how is this individual ( other than being affiliated to a certain new club) a fit person to hold his role

Time we started asking some questions on the governance of Scottish football surely

PS – why at this time have Celtic no officials in any position at either FtSFA or FtSPFL ????

Celtic will have their own spin doctors and will make decisions based on the wealth of experience the Board members share.

Desmond did get more involved in 2016 and its not beyond the realms of possibility he does again soon.

Only because he was humiliated by Awvco directors during that fateful afternoon when the buns knocked us out of the Scottish Cup.

The lack of support for Brendan shows that it was all about his own damaged ego. True leadership, indeed

  24. Not sure of our group positiopn should we make it through vs AIK.

Presumably if were (had things panned out as we’d wanted) 3rd seed in the CL group than we would be as a minimum 3rd seed in the Europa League group.

  25. A lot being said today about Dunfermline supporters chants and songs on Saturday.

As a result Chris Sutton’s 2003 interview about everyone knowing that they’d lie down to rangers (1872) is being replayed all over social media. There is also an article quoting Bert Konterman as saying Jimmy Calderwood hated Celtic and wouldn’t wear green.

My question is what happened to the CQN article about proof that Dunfermline cheated that day. Why was the article deleted? Threat of litigation? A request to bury due to an illness?

Does anyone know the reason? Are we ALLOWED to know?
