Ajer will continue to develop for years

360

Delighted Kris Ajer has been secured on a new 4-year contract.  The player is fast, good on the deck, and at an enormous 6’ 5”, is amply tooled in the air.  At 20 years and one month old, developmentally, he is years ‘ahead of the curve’ to borrow a phrase I enjoy.

It is fundamental to the way we play football to have central defenders who can control the ball, pass, and carry it into space.  These attributes are even more important that what we regard as traditional central defensive duties.

He will continue to improve for years and has found the perfect environment to develop in.

  1. Hunderbirds are Gone on

    Morning Champions.

LR67, good luck to you today, and in the coming days.

Everybody ready for the final leg of our attempt at Scottish Football’s first ever Hextuple?

A quick scan of Celtic News Now, informs me that no notice of complaint has yet been issued by the Compliance Officer. One obvious question- Why?

  2. LionsRoar67 – I echo my post of last night and those of many others thoughts and prayers are with you today my friend.

Murdoch Auld &Hay – I trust you are well S, you Eurochamps and any others in need of this parish remain in my prayers.

CRC – Saturday 23rd may I suggest as a belated Birthday/CQN get together, I return from Ireland on Friday 22nd.

Turkeybhoy Armstrong done a heid. Thought for a moment he was bigger than the club who made him. No idea where his head space or attitude is right now but it would have to be spectacularly Celtic focused if he was to stay in paradise. Hail Hail.

Above of course refers to Shinnie’s deliberate and pre-meditated assault on the Celtic Captain. Is it the case that because the referee gave Shinnie a yellow card, that the incident can not be revisited. If so, that is a ruling that needs looked at.

Shinnie?… hmmmmmm. Anklie, kneeie….. or anywhere I can get my studs on. Bassa.

Very best wishes for your op today!

Wee prayer said for a quick recovery.

  6. I must have attended more than 10 Tommy Burns Suppers in Edinburgh over the years and have been privileged to be in the great man’s company a good few times.

Very dry sense of humour did the bold TB have.

One year John Colquhoun was a guest. He was asked about Scottish referees and their treatment of Celtic over the years – how can they be so biased?

John replied “For the same reason a dug can lick it’s baws – because they can”.

This went down quite well with the audience but when TB got up to speak (and eventually sing Mac The Knife) at the end of the night, he was thanking a few of the guests and he turned to John Colquhoun and said..

“Ah mind when you started with us, you were a great wee guy, a home boy, really quiet and very respectful to senior players. Now ye’re talking about dugs’ baws in public. What happened tae ye John?”

The audience were still in stitches as Mac The Knife struck up…….

    God bless Tommy Burns

Listened to last nights Clyde SSB this morning (I know, I know). A lot of talk about money, and the groundbreaking idea that in football, having more money than your opponents’, means that you might have an advantage over them. Hence the reason that Celtic’s potentially unique achievement of winning a Hextuple does not mean that Brendan Rodgers, or our team, are due any credit.

That led to me having a little look at our starting eleven against Aberdeen, and their cost. Now this is just off the top of my head, and not properly researched, but here is what I found:

4 players were “free” – Scott Bain, KT, CalMac and the Prestwick Pelé.

3 Players were signed for nominal (£0.5k or less) fees – Ajer, Rogic and Dembélé.

4 players cost real money – Boyata (£1m?), Officer Lustig (£2.2m?), NtCham (£4m?) and Broony (£4.4m). Now as Broony has been with us for 10 years, amortisation must mean he is free from here on in… so our starting 11 on Sunday cost about £11.4m, absolute chicken feed in football terms these days. Most of the players that cost money, have been with us for a number of years. So actually, in terms of money spent this season, the team cost £4m (NtCham).

Just to use the runners up, as an example. Aberdeen choose not to maximise their income. For the visits of Celtic and Sevco, they do not offer these teams a realistic amount of tickets, as they squeeze the visiting supporters into an area that holds what? 1800? Now that is their right, if they feel that limiting the visiting supporter numbers gives them a better chance in these games, but their own supporters can’t fill the rest of the stadium. At our last game at Pittodrie, the crowd was 17, 206. The stadium capacity is 20, 866, so they could have sold another 3, 660 tickets. At £30 a pop, that’s just under £110, 000. So with two visits from us, and two from Sevco, that’s nearly £440, 000… Or an Ollie NtCham…. Or more than we spent this season on our starting 11 in Sunday’s game. Now I know the above is not the full story, but you get the idea.

So Sheep, and the rest of the SPFL… Stop whinging that ye cannae compete with us, and try and bliddy…. er…. compete with us. It’s difficult, I get that, but it’s only impossible if ye don’t try.

  8. Take away the the tackle on Scott Brown on Sunday ,which was a sore one,I have seen worse over they year’s,as for Shinnie, forget about McGinn , McGeoch,he would be a good addition to our Squad.

  9. Hunderbirds are Gone on

Got ma sums wrong there. £440, 000 wouldnae buy NtCham’s right foot. But point stands – Don’t bleat about lack of money, when you choose not to maximise your income.

(Bleat, Sheep. Nice one – ed)

    BADA

Cheers, I thought we paid for him, but as I say, not properly researched, just running with a rant that was goin’ aroon ma heid.

  11. Whilst we don’t want Celtic becoming “statement o clock” on every issue I would certainly like them to be more reactive than passive on some issues.

The treatment if Scott Brown is scandalous and should be drawn to attention of SFA Referee monitoring and in public.

The media will say Celtic are trying to influence the referee.

I’d say Levein started it and we have the right to reply. If Motherwell have a problem let them say Brown is not a target, then prove it on Saturday.
