Appetites wetted, consequence of intimidation

608

For some, short holidays are over. Batteries recharged, appetites wetted. The international break is not the period of worldwide travel and mockery it is for others. If you think you are champing at the bit to get to Celtic Park on Saturday, Scott Brown and Kolo Toure could probably sprint there from Lennoxtown right now.

For others it will be a chance to put disappointments behind them. A few (well, maybe just Moussa) will return having achieved new heights for their country. As ever, Tom Rogic will pitch with jetlag having played in two continents in the last six days.

You know they will all want to see and impress Brendan. This is the way of it at Lennoxtown right now. They are bursting a gut at training to get into the team. Be alarmed, Motherwell.

You know when your PR is on nationwide TV, intemperate and pointy, that you are in special hands. Asking the same question four different ways lacks courtesy (and a whole lot more), but PR can’t let the journo leave knowing he’s got what he wanted from the encounter. I’m no PR expert, but you know when you see someone mis-control a proverbial back pass.

Still angry at that newspaper’s attack on Celtic yesterday. I didn’t buy it, so didn’t realise at the time they printed Peter Lawwell’s home address. You know what you are doing when you publish someone’s home address.  It rarely happens because the consequences are so uncontrollable.

It’s one of the most insidious acts legally possible by a newspaper. It has an immediate consequence of intimidation for the family – that’s a given when you make the decision to print something several hundred thousand times.  Utterly deplorable.  We are back in the era where attacks were incited on Neil Lennon.

Apologies for issues accessing the blog recently.  I’m on the case.

I hope this story re Ibrox is true. Let’s face it, the only other way which would lead to closure of the cesspit is if fans are injured or killed by the decrepit roof.

I’m not annoyed, personally speaking I find the ‘don’t post the links, copy and paste, don’t give them the hits.’ routine a bit tiresome. Its the sortay playground pish the huns indulge in.

Someone else (may have been you) tried to pull the same stunt in here yesterday and was given short shrift….

You are aware, that by just talking about the DR and other assorted arse wipes, it may pique the curiosity of any number of lurkers to go and check out the articles themselves. Your indirectly encouraging them.

    How ye like them apples?

    …………

Very strange reasoning from you. By posting the link you are making it easy, almost inviting posters to click on it, and thus giving the DR much needed money. By cutting and pasting the article they only get one click but everyone on CQN gets to read it for free. If merely mentioning the name of the rag stimulates the interest of individuals then they can put in the effort themselves to access it.

And what’s with the gangster rubbish ‘caprice’. A wee bit dated patter. The Godfather came out in 1972.

Strange to think that a Celtic fan would want to help that rag out financially.

*I recall that game, Joe McGoals and the Bear each had a hat trick that night. Jock for some reason left Joe out of the side 3 days later at the bigot dome replacing him with Johnny Divers, we lost 1-2.

Joe was back a week later as we thumped the sheep 7-1. Even the greats get it wrong sometime.

Bobby Evans was one of my all-time heroes but seemed to fall from grace at Parkhead, never really knew why.

  12. I’m organising a Race Night as a Fund Raiser for St Mary’s in The Calton (so Fr Tom informed me last week). We’ve had a few and they are good wee nights. If anyone is interested in going, it’s on Friday 18th November. Tickets £5 each and usually involves some free grub as well – pie’n’peas, some home baking etc.

You can contact me at vfr800a8@me.com for further info.

For those not able to go, I am reserving Race 8 for CQN posters only. You can buy (and name) a horse for £10; you can be the jockey for £10. Winning owner and jockey get £50 each. I could even see if Fr T will throw in a Plenary Indulgence for each winner! :>)

Looks like Race 8 is oversubscribed, so I will also set aside Race 1 for CQN’ers to participate in.

And admit that the waters around you have grown

And accept it that soon you’ll be drenched to the bone

If your time to you is worth savin’

Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone,

For the times they are a’ changin’!

Come writers and critics who prophesy with your pen

And keep your eyes wide the chance won’t come again

And don’t speak too soon for the wheel’s still in spin

And there’s no tellin’ who that it’s namin’

For the loser now will be later to win

For the times they are a’ changin’!

Come senators, congressmen please heed the call

Don’t stand in the doorway don’t block up the hall

For he that gets hurt will be he who has stalled

    There’s a battle outside and it’s ragin’

It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls

For the times they are a’ changin’!

Come mothers and fathers throughout the land

And don’t criticize what you can’t understand

Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command

Your old road is rapidly agin’

Please get out of the new one if you can’t lend your hand

For the times they are a’ changin’!

The line it is drawn the curse it is cast

The slow one now will later be fast

As the present now will later be past

    The order is rapidly fadin’

GGHS…. I could be mistaken, but I didn’t think Bobby Evans was ever even charged. As I recall, about a dozen players in England, lead by James Gauld and including Dick Beattie, were charged and convicted. As I recall, the evidence was the Beattie took money on one game, and then was effectively blackmailed into fixing a few more games. But, as I say, I could be mistaken.
