Atletico, Malaga, “breathtaking hypocrisy”

I was pleased Hearts won last night as all season I’ve been telling people we will win the league by double figures. Dropping the ball on Wednesday night put that in jeopardy but the gap is back to 12 points ahead of the visit of Motherwell on Sunday.

Ronny is likely to deploy more first choice players for his final game as Celtic manager against a Motherwell team who staged a remarkable recovery after a dreadful 2015, which would have seem them relegated if it weren’t for the huge gap between Premiership and Championship.

It looked like farewell from Emilio on Wednesday but you have to expect a few more will possibly make their final competitive appearances in the hoops this weekend.

I see a “Five-in-a-row but Peter Lawwell just cannot win” article in The Scotsman. Aye, fair enough, but the article ploughs into the Resolution 12 guys, and accuses other Celtic fans of “breathtaking hypocrisy”.

It appears to imply Financial Fair Play rules are not applied elsewhere in Europe (citing Atletico Madrid), so there should be no issues with the rules not applying to Rangers in 2011. I don’t follow Spanish club licencing too closely, but you will remember Malaga being banned by Uefa for having “overdue payables” to the Spanish tax authorities.

The rules ARE applied, clubs are banned from European competition for overdue payables.

I’ve been in touch with both the Res 12 guys and Celtic on this matter this morning (they continue to work together on a daily basis). It’s fair to say both robustly rejected the tone in the article.  I don’t know how this matter will end, but it will not be decided at Hampden, or in a newspaper office – cards marked one more time.

Zlatan on ending his stay at PSG, “I came like a king, I leave like a legend”. And then some.

    TD67,

I hope the Communion went well.

‘The reality is we don’t have an alternative to what we’re doing. For me that’s an exciting project for the right manager, the right guy.’

PL words in his statement to the ‘press’ this week. The project word again. We can interview whoever we like in the recruitment process. It’s a different story when the ‘right guy’ sees the Terms and Conditions of the project.

    Enjoy the match:))

  3. Interesting comments on who, why, when, what… re our transfer policy. Here’s my take.

We are prioritising players “English” Potential far too much i.e. Looking at players and judging them on potential contiuned improvement &/or getting over injuries and fitness issues to be FAPL level players.

This policy, or srategy as some call it, has all the hallmarks of failure.

We should be looking at transfers first and foremost for their Celtic First Team credenntials. If they are a fit, can improve the team, then they should be a potential purchase.

If these players go on to excell and prove themselves in Europe they will catch the eye of the English scouts and get their lucrative tran$£er.

If my theory is correct and that we bought Erik in January because Jozo was crocked and to go straight into the first team straight away to do a job. Then it proves the point.

If the scouts were tasked to identify a CH who could hit the first team running within Celtics budget restraints – they did a great job.

I believe that’s what happened, if we complicated the search by looking for our next Van Dyke it could have been oh so different.

So back to First principles, if we have a vacancy/weakness in the First team squad lets go out and identify the players that can do the job for Celtic first and foremost, that’s why Jock bought players. If it turns out they have star potential all well and good. Develop them and sell them on.

Furinstance at present we need a defensive midfield, don’t get another Bitton (though for me the guy has undoubted potential) just get a quality, solid player who can do the job. If he turns out to be the next Wanyama ~ great. If he turns out to be the next Scott Brown ~ also great, if he turns out to be the next Barry Robson, I’d more than settle for that…

  7. CLOGHER CELT

Life’s a project, I try my best to enjoy mine, since I came back from Canada in 2003, I’v been to a Europa cup final, nine league titles, Scottish trophys, Henrik Larsson, Lubo, many many great Celtic games and teams, that little part of my life’s project has been great, I’m not a greedy guy, I’d liked to have won more, but it is what it is, the stadium, is lovely, the club are being ran well, IMO, but the people who run our game at the top here in Scotland are toxic, of that I’v no doubt, it’s the blaming CFC and PL for of these things I’ll fight against, I’v said for ages, the level 5 little helpers are doing a grand job on this blog, and on that note the guy Whois blog it is, I have to say does a grand job, half of the crackpots who come in here slagging the guy is disgusting, there are about a dozen in here I’d bin in a heartbeat if it was my blog, but, I guess that’s what keeps it going and good for him, you want to know who the dirty dozen are, maybe I’ll turn up at CQN corner one of these days and name them :). Hh

  8. My friends in Celtic,

The huns at work are in an excited mood. They really think they are going places. Results and figures don’t quite allude to that, but when has that ever stopped their agenda. They are maybe deluded, but they are united, of that there is no doubt.

Part of their agenda is to denigrate Celtic and Peter Lawwell in particular. They take great satisfaction that Hibs have failed again, they are delighted that Dundee United have crashed out of the top league. Payback time they call it.

Two out of three they declare.

I have a message for them. Celtic have won the league again and 6 is our expectation, we will get the correct management team to push on and we are and will remain financially strong.

Constructive criticism is good, but i will never understand some of our fans almost hatred like comments against Peter Lawwell and our team. Frankly it is embarrassing that the only people who seem to hate Pete Lawwell more than the huns is some of our own support.

Think perspective and remember who the real enemy is.

You might have a point in the theory of what Celtic aim to achieve in the transfer market however in reality they are much more flexible.

A wee bit of role reversal going on here this fine day.

Bournesouprecipe about to pick me up to take me to the ole Gazebo, for possibly, my last time as a ST holder, given Lawwell’ s drivel and choice media outlet.

I had hoped that the official policy expressed in letters to me, from the club, would prevail but big Pete’s intervention in the press this week, is at great variance from what I had been led to believe.

Maybe BSR, TBB, SFTB, Rubicon and/ or DBBIA can talk sense into me to assauge my sense of resentment of continuing to pay good money to be treated like sh!te, by EVERYONE, in Scottish football.

Anyway, off to celebrate the Champions.

Td67. Having been thrown off the blog more than once because of his behaviour is once again calling anyone who disagrees with him Huns as is green pinta. Tony is even back to getting those lists again. He just can’t help his facist ways.

At the heart of all the cheating and corruption is Lawwell. He props it up, he makes sure Celtic don’t mention it. He thinks your place at the back of the bus is good for business.

And when it comes to running Celtic itself he has been an abject failure. Plummeting revenues, disaffected supporters, attendances falling like a stone and the product on the pitch horrible.

Sure we have enemies in the moms and govt etc. It’s Scotland and Scotland hates irishness and Catholicism and associated Celtic with that. But for us to even think about moving forward we need to remove Lawwell and change this disasterous Moneyball strategy. Lawwell has told us as has bankier that they don’t intend to change.

Change then must be forced upon them.

  21. Chairbhoy,

Agree on the transfer. Erik is not a project and can deliver day 1. Next season is not the season to add more projects — it will result in league failure. Sevco may or may not get Barton ; however they will at the end of the transfer window , beg steal and borrow loan players who will make an impact. Anybody who thinks they will not make a step change in the weeks ahead is naively complacent. They will go for it as they cannot risk us winning 6 as it will become even more difficult to stop us. Next season will probably be the biggest challenge we face —-of course with our own incompetence being the great leveller.

A manager should have been put in place at the January transfer window. Lawwell screwed this one up badly. His defence of Ronny at the AGM was pointless — Malmo and EL campaign sunk him. The new guy will have 6 weeks to prepare for the CL qualifiers in the midst of the Euros. Lawwell sure knows how to give the new guy a mountain to climb. Lawwell continuing with the project strategy will sink the new manager from day 1. There will be no CL qualification and the recriminations will help TFOD in their league quest —with the media poring fuel on the fire.

The message is simple ; spend our budget on putting the best team on the park without worrying about resale value. Win 6IAR. Use the St Ninian bhoys like KT to develop the projects.

if there is one change I would make for next season. No bonus for Lawwell if we fail to reach the CL. He has to feel the same pain as the fans and staff as he refers to his colleagues.

Life’s almost too good today, I need something to bring me down.

Ah, here we go – a post from Neganon. Maybe try taking a wee day off, pal, and smile once or twice?

  26. Hope all going today enjoy the game — rather than use our STs we will watch on the box.

Find it very difficult to visit Celtic Park why Lawwell is running our club into the ground and the spin to cover up the bloated mess he has created would make Tony Blair proud.

I await with interest to see if Lawwell can appoint a puppet again or whether we will start to see a properly run Celtic. Lawwell has siphoned almost £10M out of the club while downsizing.

CL failure will be 100% Lawwells responsibility for the third season in a row — losing the club £90M in revenue. CL failure needs to see Lawwell sacked.

Well my take, he was brought in to fill a hole/chasm, that was there due to the Jozo “project” stalling. We got him cheaper because he was injured, but a fully fit Jozo developed for a few Seasons could have made FAPL grade. Overall a failure of the strategy and a great recovery.

    Colin Kazim-Richards

IMO was brought in as a Seasoned professional due to our dearth up front. The dearth up front was caused by the failure of the strategy. He was back up for the Griff, but as the wee man just kept on, keeping on we didn’t have to see how good a back up CK-R was.

    Ryan Christie

Yes good signing, one for the future. Potentail Celtic great, potential FAPL transfer.

    Carlton Cole

Well… A panic signing due to the failure of our transfer policy and dearth up front.

    Jozo Simunovic

As I stated in my paragraph on Erik. Was bought for hie re-sale to England potential and left us very vunerable in a crucial position. NOT fit.

    Nadir Ciftci

Think like the other two DU bhoys, was brought to do a job in the SPL. Like the too strikers up front should not have been needed as the time, energy and money spent on strikers in the previous Season should have ensured an abundance of quality up front.

    Dedryck Boyata

Interesting signing, guess comes from our relationship with MC. Shows you these big successful Clubs know how to manage their players. Wouldn’t sign us Denayer but would Boyata… MMMmmmmmm

    Scott Allan

A player for me that should have got more game time. Nice Footballer. An example of how our main strategy is failing and our back-up scatter gun approach is a mess. Too many midfielders, not knowing who our best ones are.

    Logan Bailly

A guess a POT (plain old transfer) a guy who was brought in a a certain level to fulfill a task when LZ moved on. Haven’t seen enuff of him but for me a very reasonable bit of business.

    Saidy Janko

Not sure at all about Saidy, certainly looks to be a player with potentail above the SPL but was he fit? Becoming a perennial problem.

    Kristoffer Ajer

A clasdic strategy bit of business. A guy with huge potentail that will be looking to establish his place in the Celtic First team, play well in Europe and hope his agent can do the rest.

Question is, is he the answer to our midfield issues? If he is, we’ll have a couple of good Seasons before his tran$£er, if he’s not – well we know that drill…

    Hail Hail
