Atletico, Malaga, “breathtaking hypocrisy”

I was pleased Hearts won last night as all season I’ve been telling people we will win the league by double figures. Dropping the ball on Wednesday night put that in jeopardy but the gap is back to 12 points ahead of the visit of Motherwell on Sunday.

Ronny is likely to deploy more first choice players for his final game as Celtic manager against a Motherwell team who staged a remarkable recovery after a dreadful 2015, which would have seem them relegated if it weren’t for the huge gap between Premiership and Championship.

It looked like farewell from Emilio on Wednesday but you have to expect a few more will possibly make their final competitive appearances in the hoops this weekend.

I see a “Five-in-a-row but Peter Lawwell just cannot win” article in The Scotsman. Aye, fair enough, but the article ploughs into the Resolution 12 guys, and accuses other Celtic fans of “breathtaking hypocrisy”.

It appears to imply Financial Fair Play rules are not applied elsewhere in Europe (citing Atletico Madrid), so there should be no issues with the rules not applying to Rangers in 2011. I don’t follow Spanish club licencing too closely, but you will remember Malaga being banned by Uefa for having “overdue payables” to the Spanish tax authorities.

The rules ARE applied, clubs are banned from European competition for overdue payables.

I’ve been in touch with both the Res 12 guys and Celtic on this matter this morning (they continue to work together on a daily basis). It’s fair to say both robustly rejected the tone in the article.  I don’t know how this matter will end, but it will not be decided at Hampden, or in a newspaper office – cards marked one more time.

Zlatan on ending his stay at PSG, “I came like a king, I leave like a legend”. And then some.

Al Mac All this Word Doc/copy and paste stuff you mentioned. Why am I paying so much for this superfast broadband? Peter Lawwell/Macjay/Donny Toadily promised me it was the bestest thing ever. Have all three been decieving me?

  10. SydneyTim says sack Lawell now on

Macjay. Lawell did not pick the players from the lists Ronny did. Which is what matches what was said

It’s the lists and the remit of the players on the park/ Lawell list that is the problem

If Lawell remains then the lists and our problems remain

But in an interview with the Scottish Daily Mail the 56-year-old said: ”Talk of me being a director of football here is total and utter garbage.

“The manager has said it — every manager has said it — I have said it. I do not sign the players. Categorically, I do contracts and transfer fees.

“The manager picks the players and has the final say.

”We have a scouting system which reports to the manager, we find options and the manager makes the call. It’s total nonsense to suggest otherwise.

Tontine Tim @ 11:15 pm – thank you for your reply.

I suppose in the end Ronny’s appointment was not the raging success that we all wanted it to be, however if two titles, one cup, three semi-finals and one Europa League Group stage, is the worse that we ever ‘sink’ to over a two-season period, is it really akin to the end of the world?

As Peter Lawwell said in his recent interviews with the media, Celtic is in a “good place”, and ready to re-invigorate itself with a new manager. The club is honestly and professionally run and respected throughout the world. We should all take great pride in this, despite our relative disappointments recently.

The model we work to is, under our restricted circumstances here in Scotland, the only sensible and sustainable model. Of course we have to get better at it, in terms of player recruitment and the product on the park. Every year the currency that we deal in is devalued as large sways of the footballing world leave us behind financially.

If we, as some on here suggest, got rid of our main shareholder, our CEO, and the board tomorrow, what and who would we replace them with, and what new ‘all singing, all dancing’ methods would we employ? I say this is fanciful and myopic, and lacks true understanding of how the club operates.

There can, and will be, dissatisfaction, from time to time; it happens in all top organisations and companies. Success, and as we all know, can be cyclical, however I am optimistic that we will not waste the sometimes painful experience of the last couple of years. Good things will come with our new manager and a stiffened resolve. HHTCAH.

Macjay Do you think it was a good idea for Peter Lawwell to speak to the S*n,especially after welcoming the JFT96 group to Celtic Park? Was it a GIRFUY to the Record et al? Genuine question btw

  20. SydneyTim says sack Lawell now on

Macjay. You are quite correct Peter Lawell does not pick the players and does not have full control

It was Ronny who picked the players from the lists given to him by Lawell /park

Only players on the lists approved by Lawell and park can be picked by the manager

    Can it be any clearer

  21. Mats Nilloc (The History Man) on

Macjay 1 @ 3:59 – you are of course 100% correct. However even your informed and valiant efforts in explaining our scouting and transfer policy, will fall on deaf ears of those among us, who are of the closed-mind and vindictive variety.
