  1. Everyone who left Parkhead on the night of the won over Ajax were confidently debating the very real chances of finishing second. There was no obvious signs of the collapse in the last 3 games.

Milan Away, Barca Home and Ajax in terms of commitment and the ability to compete was on a par with last year.

  2. As I said before, too many times we see Lenny sitting with his arms folded looking completely fed up. That must filter through to the players when they look across toward the bench. Top class coaches are always on the touch line instructing their team.

    Oi! Madmitch!

How come we never see you on the board when things are going well with the team?

    Rosler got the Wigan job

Tri……could you not just have left them to their howling ?

  5. I stand corrected….apologies.

The Wigan job has been filled….there were strong RUMOURS as I said about Lenny.

    Still think he will walk.

    All about opinion.

  6. MadMitch

    Fact and opinion.

Try not to confuse the two.

I know what you mean though.

    Even if you don’t.

Matthews didn’t play well…he is however excused for his dreadful owing to poor team selection …affording him no cover and lacking in match fitness

Patronising crap like that from Lenny won’t do

  8. Gotta love Neil but the CL this season has been a disaster for him.

Tactically out-thought. Also has shown a really odd selection strategy. Couldn’t believe Matthews was in tonight, and Commons – one of the few players we have who can hold the ball at this level – wasn’t.

Better teams than us will lose to Barcelona, but there’s a real sense of regression in the CL (ironically, just as we pick up form at home).

  9. Tonight was the bottom line!!!

I still respect NFL and the players…

But something is Rotten in the State of Paradise or Scottish Fitba or perhaps both. The Stench is overwhelming, nauseating and lingering.

  10. BSR, are you just trying to deny your age:-)

We can rebuild him, bigger, stronger, faster…..

    Cut to Steve Austin running.

That was the start of the credits to The Six Million Dollar Man.

Lennon is a puppet.he wont be saying anything about he really feels at celtic park.sell out.

The club has went stale, no ambition, no interest in the team, loads of bad signings tied up on big money…

Know what, couldnae really give a monkeys now

we do have one or two out of contract and I think they’ll move on now and arguably they should be.

Someone will pay for some players but I fear most of the new recruits simply are not up to it and like Bangura will be a waste of space and money.

If we are to take this as a transitional year then these players must come in, a team must be built around them and in three months if we are having performances in the league like our last tow domestic matches and we are progressing in the cup then there is something to hang on to.

Barcelona can do that to any side and I really have to question their performance in Amsterdam the other week. It was apparently a shambles. If they can play like that tonight they fell well short against Ajax.

This year the support are more divided than at any time I have been following Celtic, at least that is how I feel.

That tonight did not help and the lack of heart from the team was dismaying.

There is a colossal job on the hands of everyone involved at Celtic Park but we now have 6 months to rebuild. This time must be used wisely otherwise we will have a stadium like a morgue and no European football to speak of next season.

  14. It is incredibly obvious that any of the top ( ie very rich) teams will, every now and again, give one of the lesser ( ie not so rich) teams a real doing. Tonight was our turn. At least it was at the hands of the magnificent Barcelona.

Lots of angry people, but surely consider what’s realistic when annual revenues are: Barcelona £406m , Milan £216m Ajax £102m, Celtic £75m

  16. Does anyone think Boerrigter is a player? Big signings signed for millions and on millions. Time to go back to good homegrown talent playing with heart then change it again when we see they have two right feet. repeat cycle ad naseum…

  17. If the board instigated fans being denied access to the stadium I really hope they will be paying every one of them full travel expenses and ticket costs.

That was an embarrassment and although Barca were finished toying with us by the end the introduction of Commons and Stokes showed that we need to have players who will accept the ball and can actually play a bit.

Shape and tactics all wrong tonight and the players let everyone down, ultimately though it comes down to Lennon.

I’ve also heard rumours that the much lauded John Park didn’t fancy Finboggason, yet we bring in Pukki and Balde… Might bit be that he can spot midfielders but is clueless with it comes to striking talent?

  18. I have no complaints about the result tonight.

Barca and many other CL top teams are capable of giving us the doing we surely got tonight. Better teams than us have shipped 5, 6, 7 and 8 at this stage.

My worry is over the AC and Ajax performances because neither of those teams were at Barca’s level and we did not do enough in those 4 games.

A £5m striker or midfielder will change nothing in the equation we face. A change of manager will do nothing about this balance of power.

    Still sickens though, doesn’t it?

  19. To me I suppose it highlights the fact that UEFA financial fair play is a joke.

Barca, Real Madrid , Manure billions in debt.

I guess me ranting at the board for lack of ambition is worthless in that debt laden Champions league cartel.

This type of gulf is widening every year.

IMO Scottish fitba ain’t the only place where fitba is corrupt.

    It’s everywhere.

We play fair and pay our bills.

UEFA and these debt infested monstrosities will ensure qualification is the best we can expect!

Not one for being critical of the Celts, however Matthews, Pukki, Boerrigter??? Neil really needs to explain that one.

  22. Dear God,

Just listening to Lenny’s post match interview.

He has surely lost the dressing room on that interview alone.

Sorry, Neil. Love you as a Celt. A true Celtic manager you are not.

If I were a player listening to your nonsense, following your selection, not sure I would want you to be my boss.

Btw, good to hear hype Scottish journos have found their voices again in a post-match interview. So unlike their Unirea performance at Ipox.

Off to bed now. Bloody disgusted.

  23. On a serious note:

I noted a tribute to Nelson Mandella pre match – why are Eufa allowing politics in to football?

  24. Ok ekbhoy, no probs.

If my opinion rocks the cqn ship too much then, ofcourse I will refrain from giving an honest post….

    Keep on clapping..

  25. Livinginthelove…

It was a RUMOUR as I stated.

I happened to believe it……some rumours are true?…I was wrong.

Still think he will leave….don’t blame him,but I won’t lose any sleep if he does.

Well folks, lets take a reality check, how can we compete at this level, when we are where we are SPFL ! we cannot and we never will,I believe as has been said before our goal is to get there and proceeding any further is a bonus ( Miracle), last season we got the breaks big time, with a stronger Team. Our Bhoys are on a hiding to nothing, going from the Bog standard SPFL and expected to perform against Guys at the highest level, however enjoyed the journey, maybe we can get another go next season if and a big IF we can qualify.

ps remember the joy after Qualification.Oh for the Stein Days, those were the Days my Friends.

  27. The final league table for pot 4 teams reads as follows:

    1. Napoli ———– P 6 W 4 D 0 L 2 F10 A 9 Pts12 GD +1

    2. A.Vienna ——- P 6 W 1 D 2 L 3 F 5 A 10 Pts 5 GD -5

    3. Copenhagen – P 6 W 1 D 1 L 4 F 4 A 13 Pts 4 GD -9

    4. Steaua B. —— P 6 W 0 D 3 L 3 F 2 A 10 Pts 3 GD -8

    5. V.Plzen ——— P 6 W 1 D 0 L 5 F 6 A 17 Pts 3 GD -11

    6. Celtic ———— P 6 W 1 D 0 L 5 F 3 A 14 Pts 3 GD -11

    7. R.Sociedad —- P 6 W 0 D 1 L 5 F 1 A 10 Pts 1 GD -9

    8. Anderlecht —– P 6 W 0 D 1 L 5 F 4 A 17 Pts 1 GD -13

So, after all that, our group finished according to the seedings, and we were an average pot 4 team. Until tonight’s essentially meaningless game (for us), we were actually doing better than most of the other pot 4 teams.

The step up in quality of opposition from Hearts & Motherwell to Barcelona was just too much for our players to handle. Week in, week out, our players just aren’t subjected to that level of pressure on the ball, nor the speed and quality of passing and incisive attacking by the opposition. But we still did better than Real Sociedad, who currently sit 6th in La Liga, in spite of our group probably being tougher than theirs… and they play every week against teams who play this type of football (albeit probably not quite as well as Barca!).

All in all, we could have done better, we had some good performances but lacked that bit of CL quality up front, but we could also have done worse over the six games. And at least we know what we need in order to improve our chances of getting into… then putting more points on the board in next season’s CL.

As for tonight, we actually had more possession, more shots at goal, and more shots on target than we did in the home game against Barcelona!

A final thought… Would you rather be losing 1-6 to Barcelona in the Nou Camp Stadium in the Champions League, or beating Forfar 6-1 at Ibrox in the Scottish third division? Imagine if you’d grown to become a Sevconian!
