Biton influence on central mid

768

It wasn’t just the result, which was enormously satisfying, but the manner of Celtic’s performance yesterday was equally gratifying.  We passed with speed and precision, creating space between what was often two blocks of five defenders.  Hearts were in a sorry state but despite enduring the consequences of being unable to pay their dues, they remain considerably more resourceful than many of the lower league teams which have caused Celtic problems in cup competitions in recent seasons.

We finally got to see what the fuss over Nir Biton was all about.  He brought control, time and space to the play.  In particular I liked the way he tried to retain possession.  Hope we see more of him in the weeks to come.

While most attention was drawn to the striker position following defeat to Milan last week, central midfield, bereft of recent departures, the injured and suspended, was just as under-resourced.  The opportunity is there for Biton to grab a place for himself, just as Victor did a couple of years ago.

Christmas book offer:

To mark yesterday’s 7 goals, you can order a copy of last year’s CQN Annual (we’ve only a few boxes left), plus Willie Wallace’s Heart of a Lion, for only £7 (UK, Ireland only).  Email David, david@cqnmagazine.com, who will organise.  Once they’re gone, they’re gone…….

The events in Glasgow last Friday bring home to me that football is just football.

Any thoughts on a football fundraiser, may be a Glasgow select playing a rest of Scotland select or maybe a game against one of the cities twin towns e.g. Turin.

Obviously the Glasgow select would have a Celtic/Thistle bias but there would be one or two spaces for lower leaguers maybe RIFC or Pollock could be asked to nominate a player or two.

    She is fine.

A wee spooky story for you in the aftermath.

My daughter got a taxi to the west end with 2 pals ,just after the crash.

The taxi driver advised them to go to Ashton Lane ,and then a club called Kushion.

Being from Fife ,they hadn’t a clue ,this was the first time they had ever been out in Glasgow without parents chaperoning them.

My wee yin is only 15 ,the 2 pals 16.

Sadly when dressed they easily pass for 20ish.

My wife was too shocked at the catastrophe at the Clutha ,she decided to let them go out on there own.

The taxi driver advised not to go to The Corinthian as he felt it was too pretentious .

Anyway they went out and were made up at actually getting into a nightclub.

Roll on to Sunday at Tynecastle.

I was standing with Hamilton Tim and I spotted Mickeybhoy1888.

HT asked me to introduce him to Mickeybhoy1888.

We got chatting about the Clutha.

He then informed me that he was a taxi driver and had picked up a hire from outside the Holiday Inn ,just after the crash.

Infect it was 3 young ladies from Kirkcaldy.

    You’ve guessed it.

It was my daughter and her friends.

Such coincidences must have very high odds.

    It now gets spooky.

I enter the match and speak to a big heavy set lad from Leeds.

I don’t know his name ,but I spent a couple of hours drinking with him in The Rock bar ,in the Falls road on the day that we played Cliftonville in Belfast.

Two minutes later I see the lad from Leeds talking to Mickeybhoy on the concourse underneath the stand .

It turns out that the lad is Mickeybhoys nephew.

So in short my wee yin is fine, but someone is definitely looking after her.

She and my wife were only 30 ft away when that chopper fell from the Sky.

Was it St. Theresa who said, there is no such thing as coincidence? Everything happens for a reason. Glad your family are well. Did I tell you my son Ryan, who was near the Clutha on Friday, is a Proud Fifer born in Forth Park. Same place as our captain?

Oldtim/ ACGR – Got your email re: tickets for Barca.

Tickets are on sale from the Spanish Travel Agencies (flights, trains etc) – might be deals (ST returns) seeing as it wont be a sell-out (having qualified). Otherwise available via details below (avoiding ticket touts):

The ticket office at Camp Nou is located at two separate access points – 9 and 14.

    Opening hours: Monday – Thursday: 09:00 – 17:00

    ATM Machine:

It is now possible to purchase tickets through ‘ServiCaixa’ – this is a system allowing people to buy tickets from cash machines. Look out for ‘La Caixa’ cash machines throughout Barcelona where you can follow instructions to buy a match ticket. It is not necessary to have a Spanish bank account to do this. You simply need a visa or credit card.

Reckon we have enough time to deal with it on Wednesday morning?

  18. Praecepta,

Just a word to say thanks again for your Barca info last week. Unfortunately, hospital appointments have taken over and I won’t be able to go now. I’ll just need to wait for next season.

  22. Strange in itself but whenever I think of the orcs and their psychology the movie Mississippi Burning springs to mind………..

Ward: Where does it come from, all this hatred?

Anderson: You know, when I was a little boy, there was an old Negro farmer lived down the road from us, name of Monroe. And he was, uh, – well, I guess he was just a little luckier than my Daddy was.

He bought himself a mule. That was a big deal around that town. Now, my Daddy hated that mule, ’cause his friends were always kiddin’ him about oh, they saw Monroe out plowin’ with his new mule, and Monroe was gonna rent another field now they had a mule.

And one morning that mule just showed up dead. They poisoned the water. And after that there was never any mention about that mule around my Daddy. It just never came up.

So one time, we were drivin’ down the road and we passed Monroe’s place and we saw it was empty. He’d just packed up and left, I guess. Gone up North, or somethin’.

I looked over at my Daddy’s face – and I knew he’d done it. And he saw that I knew. He was ashamed. I guess he was ashamed. He looked at me and he said:

‘If you ain’t better than a nigger, son, who are you better than?’…He was an old man just so full of hate that he didn’t know that bein’ poor was what was killin’ him.

Oh…and Nir Biton will in time become to NFL much the same as Denis Irwin was to Sir Furious…indispensable.
