Blood on the brogues

The resignation of Charles Green from his post as Rangers International chief executive last month was more curious for what it wasn’t – a resignation from the board.  Green retained his position as a director of the club.  This was always likely to have consequences.

BBC report this morning that club chairman, Malcolm Murray, who media outlets loyal to Green reported innuendo against earlier this year, in what was viewed as an attempt to discredit and ultimately remove him, yesterday lost a vote of confidence at a board meeting.

I am certain the vote of confidence was called by Murray himself after he informed the board, including Charles Green, of how he intends to deal with the important matters surrounding the club at this time.  In particular, what he plans to do with information received from Pinsent Masons and forensic accountants from Deloitte.  The investigation underway by Pinsents and Deloittes is only taking place at the insistence of Murray.

The innuendo against Murray was inappropriate and part of a dirty tricks campaign against the man by those who do not have Rangers best interests at heart [the irony is searing].  The normal reaction to losing a vote of confidence is to resign and let your opponents deal with the consequences of their actions.  Murray may feel he has done all he can for the club (or company, if that is how some would like to start calling the entity now). Those who invested in Craig Whyte’s various claims last month will enormously encouraged.

On Friday I’ll be joined by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville at the Columba Club, Blantyre, for what is certain to be an enjoyable Question and Answer event.  Tickets, £5 each, for the Columba Charitable Fund, are available at the door.  I’m really looking forward to it.  See you there.

I agree with you about that appearing to be a decent outcome. Whatever agendas Ross County and St Mirren may or may not have had, I reckon their stance has resulted in us avoiding the daft 8-8-8 set up.

Sir Alex has said he is retiring at the end of the season. He believes he is leaving club in best possible shape, with the composition of the club squad and the youth set up best placed to succeed in the future.

One is a Hamilton born billionaire, mixes with royalty, claims he has never met CW, and dines with the stars, while the other does not. Unless “the other” has completely hidden his past behind a smokescreen of mirrors, or something like that.

I can only hope that I choose the correct knife and fork while we are dining!

I thought your allusion to Shakespeare was apt as Macbeth also reflects the behaviour of the dark side.

  6. Ol’ Bluenose will not be missed by me. This will be an opportunity for the Scottish media to eulogise Ferguson and diminish Jock Stein.

  7. I also recall a snip-it on Scotland Today when, Swalex was up to play a game v’s Aberdeen to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Dons ECWC win were he said

Swalex – “Aberdeen’s win in the ECWC Final and, our win v’s Hamburg in the Super Cup was second only to Celtic’s magnificent achievement in Lisbon which will never be touched. Yes I know that Rangers won the ECWC in 1972 but, Aberdeen’s victories will

always be the 2nd in terms of Scottish clubs European honors and, rightly so.”

I doubt anyone will be able to folow in Fergie’s foorsteps…poisoned chalice (more Shakespeare)! They could go into a period of decline?

For me, the really interesting job over the next couple of seasons would be at Arsenal. They’ve now got significant spend to add to the quality young players coming through. Kick Arse upstairs and there’s a very attractive manager’s job going!

    Prestwick .

I did that early morning Ryanair Prestwick -Pisa once .. Mrs S of T took one look at some of those who were heading for Spain and announced that once we’d checked in we’d be leaving the building and waiting outside. I pointed out that it was raining and got a I’d rather drown than stay here response…

Whenever Mrs S of T is in the company of Brits dissing La Bella Italia she hits them with a You ever been in Prestwick airport at 6am routine .

  18. I very much doubt Mourinho will be the next MU manager. His off field antics are antithesis to the way they see a MU boss carrying himself. Plus there is the small matter of paying RM €10m to release him from his contract.

The appointment of Moyes would equally not go down well at OT. This time with the fans. The style of football that Moyes favours is the complete opposite of what the OT faithful are used to.

Klopp, Pellegrini or Blanc. 1 of those 3 would be my choice.

The old managerial musical chairs game begins. It’s like a cabinet reshuffle.

It’s the key position at any football club, including ours, but it’s not as easy as taking a guy with great credentials and slotting him into your system. Human relationships are never like that. It’s not the Toyota Kaizen system.

If the right people (plural) are in the right place at the right time, it works. If not, with the right person (singular) at the top and a period of adjustment, things can be made to line up.

Sometimes, it’s the unexpected appointments that work out best. Lenny’s was an unexpected appointment at Celtic Park in 2010. Pep Guardiola’s was similarly surprising when he took over at Barcelona. Does it mean Lenny will be equally successful in his next job, whenever the time might come? Does it mean Pep will be equally successful at Bayern Munich? Everybody knows the answer.

I’ve also had that early morning Prestwick experience a few times waiting for the Pisa flight. You’ll therefore understand my trepidation at the prospect of being on one of said Spain flights in July. Although I’m confident of not heading to the same ultimate destination as my fellow travellers, the flight itself could be something of an ordeal : (

  24. I always remember Sir Alex,s saying when commentating on the 1985 cup final just after wee Provan had equlised with a stunning free kick and north enclosure celtic end main stand is bedlam he said “who wouldn’t want to play in front of that ” he was still Dons manager at the time also read his book fantastic read. Well done Sir Alex take a well deserved rest.
