Boot on the other foot for a change

601

For years we worried of the consequences an away trip in Europe would do to our weekend performance.  The boot is on the other foot now.  Hearts head to Celtic Park on Sunday after returning from Switzerland in the early hours of this morning.

Their result against Zurich was perfect: a narrow defeat keeps the tie alive; manager Robbie Neilson will be alert to the possibility of delivering Europa League football with a sold home win on Thursday.  Do not underestimate the emotional and physical strain put on the Hearts players as a result of last night’s game.  I am feeling unusually confident about Sunday.

There is a similar story at play with another Glasgow-Edinburgh fixture this weekend.  Hibs host Newco, who are between European qualifiers.  Hibs, like Celtic, don’t need to bother about these games.

Newco’s next six league games include visits to Hibs, Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts.  This run will expose whatever weaknesses exist in their squad.  Celtic have their own business to take care of, and we will be in the middle of Champions League group stage exertions during this period, but, the opportunity is there to build a clear lead in the title race.

  1. GENE @ 12:23 PM,

Hope all’s good, if you are referring to me I do know we’re at home, it is just a poorly constructed sentence –

What I meant was Hearts at Tynecastle is a very different prospect that Hearts at home.

They were always going to struggle – maybe the SPL fixture computer knew that;)

Hello again all you young rebels.

Suns out here in Melbourne, still a bit cool 15 degs. Managed a few lines

today, no not those ones, though they might have helped keep me on the

    straight and narrow 😜

None of our young dudes about, suppose they’re all going into the city,

no doubt all hooped up, a concert on, they know the hoops are an eye

catcher, ghod how I wish I was young again, ah well, just stick to my

memories of standing outside Celtic park with my dark green scarf with

the thin white stripe and hoping for a autograph from Charlie Tully.

Makes me happy reading the posts between BELFASTBHOY and SCULLY

who are obviously as old as I am, and the connection between Ireland

    and Scotland.

Don’t think it’s as strong as when I used to visit Dublin , Cork, Donegal,

back in the day, but I know it’s still there, although the EPL madness

would love to eliminate it completely.

But…but hey, we’re here in yon land down under, where women love

    to dream and wonder.

Will I meet a man with gold and some porter ?

Or even better, a Celtic supporter. 🇮🇪

Thanks for the response and rationale.

I admire you and those who believe it is worth pursuing for your indefatigability. I also admire your strong stance on principle.

Sadly I can’t realistically see it registering with UEFA and would prefer the board to focus energy on what realistically could make a difference in how our club / the club could progress to play on a higher platform and deliver its real value to both shareholders and fans.

For me the lack of energy in this space is the real negligence of our custodians this past 20 years. For me this is the area which should be called out and which needs the right focus.

  5. Fixtures ………………

    Other than the COVID season.

When in recent memory, say last 20 years, did we have a run of away fixtures that we dropped many points or really went against us ?

Some have built up irrational fears in a collective psyche, that there are places we dont do well in.

When in truth , there is no consistent back to back failures.

Draw breath and be led by the numbers and performances

    fear no one, even thems,

RE: the chat about Paul67’s ‘Jota is away’ post. (No, he didn’t really say that, but….)

Anyway, here’s my take. Caveat: I know nothing, but just offering some potential logic…..

Maybe Paul was just trying to distract us all from the distracting posts from some distracted posters.

It may have worked. Lots of football chat followed.

    Or…..

Maybe Ange actually has a plan. You know, that one, where he says he wants a player that can cover more than one position. So, maybe our incoming player isn’t the ‘new Jota’. Maybe we are about to welcome the ‘new Tom Rogic who can also sub in for Jota’.

    Just a thought.

    Have a great day everybody.

On the LNS commission, I looked out a paper by Paul McConville on scotslawthoughts

LNS was an independent board commissioned by the SPL, one of the questions asked was can it be ignored, answer is no due to the following:

Section G of the SPL Rules covers disciplinary commissions. This commission was appointed by the SPL Board to deal with the matter on its behalf. Effectively it had the powers of the Board, but was left to act independently.

But are we a stepping stone to EPL riches? who knows, suppose

  11. I think Hearts have recruited wisely given their circumstances and deserve to be the 3rd placed team in the SPFL- I wish it were not so but they have a team full of combative and speedy players with McKay supplying the craft (No idea if he’s a mason).

That’s what immediately came to my mind also, then, further into the video there’s a shot he takes from just inside the box with his left foot, and bhoy, did it thunder, so maybe not as one-footed as the video suggests, por cierto.

Good stuff, I’m glad you’re well.

Mea Culpa’d on the my LNS comment picked up in the last article, by other posters, not only it seems did I give him too much jurisdiction, I gave him jurisdiction. Paul McConville (much missed) gave a good account thanks to Prestonpans bhoy for the research. Lord Hodge over at The Court of Session however was the real kitty In terms of same club mythology, and it only took him seven minutes.

A myth that is now the norm or we’ll riot for Scotland, methinks the lady protesteth too much. 10 years after the Scottish ‘verdict’ that there was ‘no stomach’ for title stripping blah, blah, blah, there is also 10 years of hardening the belief that Celtic supporters were let down by Celtic, the board were well aware LNS was a fudge. There should have been more from Celtic of that, there is no question what form it should have taken is another matter.

The five way agreement is where most Celtic supporters just ‘go to the game’ and watch Celtic, you can’t begin every sentence in every football conversation with ‘ Look , Sevco are a new club ‘ you can’t support, or not support Celtic on the basis of what they did, or didn’t do, when Rainjurz were liquidated. You definitely can’t temper your love of Celtic because Rainjurz cheated for years whilst trying to better our club.

Darkening our miraculous club is for others, not Celtic supporters thanks to SFTB and yourself for returning CQN to the good old days at least for a minute, match reports are for all Celtic friends especially absent ones.

    Enjoy the match.

  17. The game on Sunday has long since been sold out. It’s been quite a while since there was a spare seat to be had, for league games anyway. That is likely to continue for the foreseeable and the club could easily offload 80,000 packages for the forthcoming Champions League.

On the basis of supply & demand, Celtic Park is just too wee at this period in our history. Astonishing actually. Wonder what Dr Michael miles-worse Kelly thinks of it all.

The Appellate for the SPL was the SFA, they of course wanted nothing to do with it.

Yet Stewart Regan was correct when he stated to big Pedro and Neil Doncaster that the SFA could do nothing unless the made an officially application.

They certainly were blowhards in that respect but never did appeal it, which suited all vested interests.
