Boycott call as Celtic fans money promised to re-establish Rangers

1670

The Gang of 10 SPL club who will meet next week will decide whether or not we have a morally sound and ethically administered league. The meeting wasn’t announced three hours before overtures were being made on terms a Rangers Newco would be prepared to agree to in order to win their backing.

Effectively, the other 10 will asked to hold their noses, put all moral judgement aside and tell Rangers Newco the terms they need to agree to in order to get back into the SPL, retain their history and limit consequences of the alleged improper registration of players. Some of those hoping to front a Rangers Newco are prepared to do whatever is necessary to get back on a level playing field with those who have spent the last 20 years playing honest football and paying their taxes.

The question to be considered is not just what is ethically right in sport; it’s more personal than that. This is about what is going to happen to your money, the football club that defines who you are, and your relationship with the game for the rest of your life.

The schemers and cheats are not beaten and they are not going to give up. There is no honour, no ‘dignity’, no moral compass that understands there are consequences for decades of rampant abuse. All there is, is a sense of entitlement that I struggle to comprehend.

That sense of entitlement is about to promise bucket loads of your cash to someone else in order to restore the old certainties. This time, they are not even going to use the tax man’s money, they are going to use YOUR money. The money you put into the game will be distributed and used to flush the smaller clubs, who will in turn restore Rangers to their position of ascendency.

This is not sport, it’s a disgusting abuse of Celtic fans. You are not even being asked, you are being expected to open your wallets and pay whatever price it takes to put Rangers back on top.

I have never called for a boycott of a newspaper, never mind a football game, but this is not football anymore. We cannot be party to this. It is not a passing-issue either. Rules are being made with consequences that could last 100 years.

You have suffered from decades of malpractice and have earned the right to go to Ibrox in two weeks to enjoy the reflection of honest endeavour. After this, our next away game will be at Kilmarnock. If the Gang of 10 attempt an insurrection using your money, join me in a picket outside Celtic Park when these tickets are available for sale, and outside the away gates at Rugby Park on game day, to explain to Celtic fans the consequences of supporting the clubs who would use your money to establish a new Rangers.

Unite and bring the full power of Celtic against those who would rather do a deal with the devil than establish an honest, even, playing field.

If the Gang of 10 give Rangers Newco their way, using your money, we cannot go back to an away game, not this season, not ever. We must demand this discipline from each other and insist the club refuse all away tickets.

Having paid our taxes, registered footballers in an honest manner and brought international acclaim to Scottish football, the Celtic Movement is being corrupted by the lowest common denominator.

Our magnificent sporting institution is being destroyed. For the love of all that is decent and meritocratic in the game, we need help from England, Europe or wherever to move out of Scottish football.

I am just about finished with the entire, corrupt, shambles that masquerades as a sport.

Issue six of CQN Magazine….. has sold out! None left, sorry.

  1. re PPV, the home team own the rights to the game, in a Collective agreement this is effectively ceded to the league for negotiation purposes.

So we are unlikely to sell our own home games on a domestic PPV, and would have to purchase the right to sell a TV package for away games. Obviously it would have to be worthwhile for all parties – i.e. we’d need to make enough from sales to cover the cost of the rights and meet our profit expetations.

I’ve long held that whilst our current deal is so paltry, there’s little to be lost in a PPV deal for Celtic and the rest. It would be great to test the water, but, like many radical idea’s it has no chance of gaining traction in Scotland….

Although, all this confirms my first observation, several months ago, we really, badly need to focus on how Celtic can take advantage of this. No time for revelling in others misfortune, because it will soon be shared.

At this stage we need to ruthlessly exploit our position of strength and leave no-one in any doubt that Celtic are Scottish football…

I used to be an advocate of Scottish football…

The hardest hitting thing i’ve ever read in print. It must have been very difficult writing that.

I for one, commend, and wholeheartedly agree.

    Sick to ma boots.

does no team in the SPL aspire to be the second best/biggest team in Scotland ? and with it a better chance of say Europa League group stages.

does no team think with the demise of Rangers all those Rangers supporters including the armchair ones might support their local club ?

  4. No Bobby Does It Petta on

As someone alluded to above, the mood and position (Paul’s) seems to change daily. Hopefully it is only an emotional reaction from Paul and events do not unfold as we fear.

In any case, I would fully support a boycott, whilst fully supporting the club.

There is, however, an element of the support who will never boycott.

  5. Ok, first steps.

Cancel all Sky/ESPN subs. Instead subscribe to Celtic TV.

Don’t even watch games in pubs, wwait and watch on Celtic TV later that evening.

Don’t go to away games. If possible Celtic should do beamback and give money to Celtic FC.

    They can’t survive without us.

    Starve them out

  6. Just like in “Braveheart” when the “nobles” conspired against Willie Wallace, took sides with the enemy, and left him hung, drawn and quartered.

Well we’ve seen the movie and there won’t be a repeat.

    Bhoycott it is.

However, is this not where Platini and Co should be making an entrance???

En masse cancellation of Sky Sports subscriptions and tell them why….see how much their precious TV deal is worth then!

Circa 50K Hoops fans in the UK paying about £20 per month at the moment via Sky/Virgin/BT…loss of £1M per month in TV revenue? That sound a reasonable estimate?

  8. Larsson & McStay,

you’re right – Aberdeen , Dundee Utd , Hibs and Hearts need to turn up to stop the other 6 creating havoc.

If what Paul suspects comes to pass civil war will break out in Scottish football which can only assist Currant Bun Newco, and they are the root cause of it!!

    Hail! Hail!

  9. I’m confused, what now ‘Celts for no change’….wish they would vote to dump us out, then we have the case to move somewere else..better still, don’t let these people decide our destiny, resign from the league now..

Shocking and disrerpectful, never expected any less from these self serving teams will do.

Paul, I’m with you regards the boycott picket line (indeed like the newspapers I already don’t attend away matches).

Peterv and the Board I assume are aware of our feelings in this matter already……….maybe this needs reinforced.

As a season ticket holder for just over two decades I have been cheated by systematic financial duplicity both by one team, then by a corrupt administration (honest mistakes anyone) and they want me to pay to keep this team going.

Keep us posted Paul (as always)

Celtic TV showing all spl games (with all money going to Celtic fc) and a bhoycott of any away grounds who have supported the huns should just about do it.

    I’m in.

Can see most of those clubs going for that, but like Exiled Tim, I would be suprised if Aberdeen and Hibs agreed to it. I thought it wasn’t up to them but 6 blokes. Eric Riley from us, Doncaster, Regan and D United, St Johnstone and Motherwell representatives. Shows what i know.

    Hail Hail.

If Celtic hae a title party at Celtic Park on the 25th after the hun game then we should definitely have jelly and ice cream on the go.

  13. What a day to give up CQN !!!

    Stirring words Paul67…

The “stupid Huns” will be shown how to mount a protest !!!

  14. Well said Paul,

Not 1 penny of my hard-earned and tax paid earnings will I give up if there is even a hint that it might be going in Rangers direction.

Rangers have cost us, the taxpayer, and law-abiders, enough money as it is……………..and they want more!

They just don’t get it, do they!

I asked yesterday.Who Instigated This Meeting ?I think if we knew the answer to that question it would give us a clearer idea who it is who really hates us.Slan

  16. Amazing stuff Paul.

With you 100%. This can not be allowed to happen. This will not happen.

I don’t think it would be wise for the board to make any comment on this just yet. But you can be sure all the other clubs will be fully aware of our position here.

For 18 years they have been running our club within it’s means. There have been occasions when we drifted a bit from that, but for the most part it has been “spend only what you can afford”. This has been our mantra whilst our biggest rivals have been spend on the never never. Still, we keep our house in order. They won countless trophies, received all the plaudits. We were the paupers from across the river. Every tenner for our fivers.

The board of Glasgow Celtic will not be party to this. They will not accept it, they know that we will not accept it. Our majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond will not accept it. He is often the pariah of the support. He is a lot of things, but he is no fool. He is a ruthless businessman. Contrary to some peoples opinion, he does not like second best. The board put a strategy in place almost 10 years ago. The ultimate aim of that strategy was for Celtic to become the dominant force in Scottish football. It has taken a little longer than they had hoped to come to fruition. That time is now. If this newco scenario is allowed to happen, everything they have done over the past 10 years will have been in vain.

They will be up for the fight, so will the support. A war is about to begin. Ironically Celtic are READY.

Hail Hail. The Celts are here!

  17. Guys i’m hurting as much as all of you, but don’t forget in anger we all do things we may regret.

Aye right, not this time we won’t. I’m up for any picket line etc, just say when and where and i’m there.

But here’s what each one of us REALLY REALLY wants. A statement from Celtic, our CEO standing outside with all the MSM gathered and saying ‘To all Celtic supporters, let’s show them just what unity and togetherness really means. Support us with all you’ve got when we’re at home, but when we’re away from home I urge you do not give any team one brass farthing’

Let them see the power of Celtic. A statement like that and we WILL bhoycott them all.

Or better still just quote Ezequiel 25:17 in Samuel L Jackson style.

    Raging to ma boots.

  18. If part of this plan is revenue sharing, i.e. they all want an equal share of all TV money and all gate receipts then here’s a couple of suggestions.

Sell a year’s subscription to the Celtic Programme for £500. With this you can buy a season ticket for a £10. So 50,000 x £10 = £500,000 / 12 gives each SPL side £42k from Celtic.

We could also do something similar with single tickets.

    Makes sense to me.

Some of you guys have suggested that teams will not like this idea.

    That will not matter.

Ask our resident Glasgow City Councillor how it works. The Labour Group speaks at votes with one voice. But in caucus they argue like an old married couple, in private. When they leave the committee rooms they stand toe-to-toe.

None of these clubs really WANTS to be named as one which voted for the demise of Rangers. When the consensus is reached in the committee room the decision will be stated as unanimous, not because it was but because that is how it has to be.

Mark my words. The stitch-up here is on the cards.

This has been why i didnt buy into the whole ice cream and jelly stuff. it was too good to be true, never underestimate how isolated we are in this wee country. This is going to get rough i fear and the public opinion will be all too quick to blame huffy celtic ,just look at lennys treatment last year and even last week. So all will be forgiven in govan and they will all hound us ,again. history has a way of repeating itself, did u guys really think a protestant country like scotland was going to let an irish founded team dominate their football? c’mon bhoys someone us knew it would end like this. I so angry but not surprised, when you expect the worst your usually not let down that often.

“Negotiations continue at Murray Park over wording of wage cut agreement. 3 month deal but ripped up if #Rangers come out of administration.”

Sounds like the players want guarantees that they will get their money back as soon as possible. Is it actually a deferral or just a very short term pay cut?

  27. Paul67,

As you know, I’ve been on here since day “dot” and I don’t think I’ve every heard you so angry. 100% justified anger.

I think you ‘ll find that you’re message will not meet with much resistance among the Celtic support.

Ah, to heck, with it Paul – just change your name to Brian and be done with it. I’ve already got my sandle in one hand and a ghord(sp) in the other and I’m ready to follow. Coz I say you are! and I should know – I’ve followed a few :-)

  28. Paul67 are you sure the gang of 10 are not simply exploring what areas of agreement they might have for changing rules as preparation for a liquidation event of the cheating Oldco

They will have a short window of opportunity from liquidation until the end of the season to utilise the 90% of voting rights arising from the 10/11 situation

The rules they wish to change may be of some financial disadvantage to Celtic but do not necessarily have to result in the parachuting-in of Newco

In my view a more competitive league that does not contain Oldco/Newco would be a good thing
