Broomloan brilliance, hopeless imposter

389

Just catching up on the post-Ibrox analysis after a busy weekend. A few observations:

Celtic opened very well but our passing out of defence fell apart after 10 minutes and didn’t get back on track until Scott Sinclair decided he was taking control at halftime. If I wanted to make an excuse, I’d say we were rusty due to the formation only just returning to normal for the first time this season, but this may be over-generous.

Scott demonstrated why he was Player of the Year last season. He has what it takes to swing big games. The game can be divided into two parts: times when Sinclair had the ball inside the Newco box, and all other times. You could sense the terror in blue at the former.

On the Newco penalty claim: I’m not sure. Jozo pulled out of the challenge, which I suspect is why the referee didn’t give it, but I would have claimed if it was the other way around.

It was clear to everyone in the Broomloan Stand that Leigh Griffith was claiming for a penalty in the first half, although none of us knew why. Young Beckenbauer in the Newco defence extended his arms and made his body big as the ball dropped onto his hand.

The rules are clear on this one, allow your arms to leave the confines of your body and you’ve transgressed if the ball strikes a hand or arm. Sky Television viewers were then transported to an alternate universe, where they were told, “Leigh Griffiths is claiming for a corner kick”. There is an intellectual pain experienced when you are part of a group treated to ‘expert’ analysis like this. I was embarrassed as a viewer.

While Scott Sinclair was the custard in your doughnut, the second goal was a product of crisp passing down the right. Callum McGregor was worthy of an honourable mention here. He has the craft to compliment Patrick Roberts’ level of astonishing-ness.

There will be quite a number of people who are walking around Lennoxtown today full of the joys because of the save Craig Gordon made with the score at 0-1. This was not a normal reaction save, it was the result of a planned and practiced manner in which to close-down an opponent who is about to head the ball. Look again at how Craig moves his body.

It was a big moment and speaks of the technical preparation of the goalkeepers.

Scott Brown remains is in the form of his life. He waltzed around Ibrox like he owned the place. Although with the alleged condition of the structure, that honour may be an onerous one.

The knives are out for Brother Pedro, who spent millions but has not noticeably improved his team. This is a little unfair. Newco’s problems run deeper than Pedro, and let’s face it, they would be in a far worse situation if he had not banned green boots.

This guy knows what he’s doing, no way is he an hopeless imposter, no way at all. And, if they ever score an important goal, Pedro’s instructions to congregate to celebration will also prove invaluable.

Let’s not get too carried away with ourselves. Ibrox was the aperitif, as they say in Europe. The main course is in Brussels on Wednesday, and that will prove to be a far greater challenge.

  1. Best of Luck Doc, I’ve no doubt you will be fine, the Docs are made of tough stuff.

Obviously enjoyed skelping the Huns but it wasn’t the total euphoria of the past, I can genuinely say the game Wed. night means a lot more to me.

I know the political stuff in the background & the SFA running for cover is a major issue for many Celts and I indeed share the sense of frustration,

However each of us get a reminder every day of how short life is, it is so important to make the days count rather than counting the days.

We live in a wonderful, historic time as Celtic Supporters, FFS Bhoys just enjoy it,

I’m off to my leaba, tomorrow night off to Malaga & The John Lemon Bar to watch The Famous Glasgow Celtic.

Good Night & God Bless ALL.

TURKEYBHOY-no sure it’s got anything to do with any of that, well it canny be 50 caps! Did the Lisbon lions even get 50 caps between them?

    Maybe just made it.

    As I say,I know,nor want to,anything about them,their rules or whatever.I was meaning the 50 caps,as a landmark to get you in.In saying that,50 years,as a landmark,is fkin ridiculous.Who knows with these cretins.

  3. That Monkey Media will be putting out a reward soon for anyone that brings them the head,or legs of Griff and Broony. The bile that is vomiting out of those pages is hilariously shocking.

God bless both for getting them into such an impotent rage.

    Goodnight Seattle.

    City Without a Ticket

Anderlecht have bizarrely threatened Celtic fans with arrest if they turn up in the city without a ticket for Wednesday night’s Champions League game.

    —————————————————————————-

Aye they’re gonnae use special agent Lee Wallace to grass up any Tim without a ticket.

  5. SFTB,

I agree with your suggestion that when Rangers died in 2012 , so did their ability to be our rivals.

They are a third rate outfit, sustained only by the mythology of the same club.

They are not; however their support remains drawn mainly from the same source.

Like you I have not attended games v sevco as I see their team as an irrelevance and their support as obnoxious. I have had little desire to have myself assaulted by their vitriol.

However I have now decided that, with the sevco outfit being an irrelevance, I should not deprive myself of the pleasure of watching my Celtic team playing beautiful football.

Your secondary point about not giving it too tight to sevconian workmates etc, I cannot agree with.

The very fact that I view them as an irrelevance and do not see them as credible rivals, is in itself, more than the average bear can bare. The fact that they cannot look one in the eye, nor instigate a conversation about football, through fear and trepidation of the consequences is in itself a delight.

So even if I were of a mind to cut the average sevconian some slack, I cannot, as they are damned if I do and damned if I don’t. Generally I do, but there are some that deserve that I don’t.

On the 10 yard rule, surely it would be easy enough to get a wee electronic device/laser beam thingy to map out the correct distance!

Why do you think that there is a possibilty that Celtic will hold fire now the SPFL and the SFA have refused to hold reviews? To me it clears the way for Celtic to take this to UEFA.

    =========================

You mean pass Res12? I agree but it has always been Celtic’s policy since the 2013 AGM to try and deal with the matter domestically. No idea why, but I am led to believe approaching UEFA has not been ruled out by the Board.

Bendigo posted a link to the great Willie Duggan. Fierce competitor. Natural brute strength and presence. Legend.

He also shares my fathers name, surname spelt slightly different but then there are 3 different spellings of said surname in the direct family i.e. his brothers.

This Willie, is also a legend….cos he’s ma da.

I recently lost my mother-in-law Peggy at the grand old age of 92. I posted here and got a wonderful response from the posters on here. As an aside, i read each tribute on the journey to Lochgilphead and it was well received, each and every one. Was starting to get back to normal and was looking forward to ripping the Sevco-ites a new one on Monday when i got the call.

Old man has had a stroke.

    Strokes are wicked things.

Was at hospital tonight and it’s difficult to see this great man diminished.

He has no vision in right eye and the right side in general is weak.

I am aware of the advances in medical science but you just don’t know.

    I hope for the best.

He is a very proud Letterkenny man who left school at 13 to start work in a grocery shop. No formal education but has taught himself through books and a desire to be better.

When i say that a stroke is cruel i mean that in this case he has been robbed of speech. He can’t find the right word. It escapes him.

I’m still lucky to have him, knowing many have lost their father, but i want him back whole. I know it’s early days but hope remains.

Forgive my selfish ramblings as i know there are many worse off. As i said, i think, it’s a form of catharsis.

Anyone notice there were no instructions nor pat on the back for Miller from Pedro when coming on as substitute? Have they had a wee fall out?

    ……………………………….

ive read back a little, and another poster says that Misser had maybe been sent home prior to Saturday for having too much to say for himself ? If true, probably cos he was only a sub ?

I also posted yesterday after watching the links of Caixanhias hard man act that Misser sat in their dug out, and deliberately looked away taking NO interest at all in backing up Pedro etc, or even facing up to Scott Brown during the half time stramash, even if he was of a mind to talk to Broony being ex team mates etc …he wasn’t interested ?

My money on Misser and the Bullfighter no happy with each other, and yet Misser is just ONE of his FIVE Captains ?

  19. Meant to add, no doubt Celtic would be punished by the SFA if we withdrew our players, but I would hope that there maybe could be some legal challenge to any punishment dished out ?

If Chump Caixanhia is NOT punished for his aggro last Saturday, then it’s open season for any other Chump manager to have a go at Celtic players and staff.

if he goes unpunished…then again I would hope that Celtic FC have something to say on the matter and those Hun stewards who had NO legal right to provoke the Celtic players.

Difficult times for him, your family and yourself. Frustration will be your dads worst enemy now.

My mum had a stroke at age 36 a week after she suffered a heart attack. Frustration at the limitations of speech was her biggest enemy in the years that followed.

Some on these pages, including myself have experienced this dreadful medical problem, albeit I was fortunate that mine was a mini stroke (we bit worse than a TIA but thankfuly not as bad as a stroke. I still have bouts of tiredness and memory recall issues (especially people’s names) since it happened in January. Fortunately physical symptoms dissipated over few months.

I was lucky while I know of others on here haven’t been as fortunate as me and still deal with more substantial consequences daily.
