Celtic and the burnout issue

512

Delighted for Leigh Griffiths (penalty), Callum McGregor (penalty and assist) and Ryan Christie (goal) who, after a difficult few months domestically, got any reassurance necessary from a Scotland performance and result that they can compete and win on the European stage.  McGregor’s reverse pass for the goal was a thing of beauty.

The caveat is that our players will compete for four domestic trophies this season, head to the Euros with Scotland, then go straight into Celtic’s European qualifiers without as much as a long weekend down the Clyde.  To paraphrase Roy Scheider, you’re gonna need a bigger squad.

Footballers are not machines.  They have peaks and troughs of form, fitness and focus.  How many mountains can Callum McGregor climb?  We have to hope Steve Clarke cuts the Celtic players some slack in the spring internationals, while Neil Lennon should have a good hard look at the remaining three Europa League games before risking his most precious assets.

  1. lets all do the huddle on

Let me make my point clear here, schools should be closed but it’s not parents fault that they are not. They do not make Government rules.

so let me make my point clear

im not saying schools should or shouldnt be shut

    not my decision

and im not saying anything about anything being parents fault

my whole point is about the politicians

they can force Mrs Miggins pie shop to close at 6 oclock

they can allow restaurants to stay open to serve folk meals – but they can only have a ginger beer with their meal but not a vodka and ginger beer

they can let 300 fans into a very small football stadium

but cant allow any fans into massive horse racing courses that are hectares wide

the point is that all these rules that are being enforced just now are just political window dressing

they will have no effect on covid numbers

the elephant in the room is being ignored

    for political reasons obviously

  2. Am getting confused…wondering if my eyes are going…who tf colourised this…are we playing in blue lol

  3. Meadowbhoy has to be comforted hearing strangers talk about his old man in glowing terms…but if that’s his first post…who’s gonna ask him? lol

    Thanks.

I’d a feeling the dates made it very unlikely.

I’m left with one of those regretted/missed moments in life…

Who the feck was it I saw then – cos they were excellent & had a cult following amongst other bands in the area?

    Cheers

  5. Let’s all do the Huddle – We will agree to disagree.

I thought with a moniker like Let’s all do the huddle you would have been a bit more concerned about your fellow man kind but obviously not.

Why anyone should be gratefull for people dying (sacrifice) is beyond me.

  6. HH. today was my wife of 62 years, 80th birthday because of covid restrictions we could not meet our family today. We booked into the Toby Carvery Strathclyde Park at 2-30 for dinner when we entered the restaurant, there was a young couple at a nearby table. I asked the waitress as it was my wife’ 80th birthday could we have the table at the window and she said yes. We had a lovely meal with excellent service, they even put candles on my wifes desert. when I asked for the bill I was told that it had been paid for by the young couple who had heard me say it was my wife’ birthday and they had asked the waitress not to tell us until after they had left the restaurant. I hope the couple are C QN readers, if so, I would like to thank them very much as by their generosity they have left my wife and I very happy to be part of the same world as that couple.

    hail hail

Great pit-stop. Whatever became of that mural on the back wall, the army of leprechauns marching uphill behind a flag waver? Always hoped it would be a poster to buy sometime.

Or was that the queue for the toilet and I was just scooped again?

  12. A very late ‘good evening’ to all…

As anyone who came across my post last night will know I intended to go back to Celtic Park to get a more definitive picture of the Celtic Way. So about 8pm out I traipsed, Nikon DSLR at the ready and as I approached Paradise…………………THE F*****N’ HEAVENS OPENED AND THE CONTENTS OF EVERY CELESTIAL LOO FLUSHED DOWN.

So putting it mildly, as I had not remembered my lens sleeve or camera body waterproof jacket (ALDI plastic bag wae a hole in it), every picture was mottled by ‘rain stain’. Especially my ‘fish eye’ piece de resistance which appropriately enough looked like the fish’s eye was staring from the bottom of a puddle.

Anyway, the pictures were taken in RAW format which meant that I had to process them before they were publishable. So I tried to remove the rain damage but as you will see, this also removed the definition and distant focus and definition.

It also sadly took away from the superb Celtic Emblem which originally stood out and had the reflection of the lights.

I do not give up however and so, failing any natural disasters I will try again tomorrow or Monday.

The ones from tonight are here (click on each one for a more detailed view….you might even see the one-eyed fish!)….

  18. Matt – can’t wait for tomorrow night’s pics

Fan Tim – the highlight of this particular Saturday!

  19. St Stivs 10.09 – great Pic – that was flag raising day in August 1970 – we won 2-0. Bobby buzzbomb scored both.

Bobby Collins was cheered onto the pitch as captain of Morton.

On the bench fir Morton was a guy called Joe Jordon – recommended to Don Revie by Bobby Collins

I was there in the Greenock CSC bus- and I was twelve!

What a great story, congratulations to you and your wife on 60 years together.

A great gesture by that couple, you don’t hear about good deeds to often.

  23. Well done Scotland …

Celtic & Scotland for me is like a totally different sport … if that makes sense

    Celtic always first …

I think the older I get the more Scottish I feel, again Celtic there isn’t an option it’s just Celtic …

I have read a few posts all week about why some posters feel that being a “catholic” or having a catholic name has hindered them … I go the other way, I will never be a millionaire but have worked all my days,, I think I might have bored the blog with this before but when my old man Michael (Mick) was sent to register me as Gerard Patrick … his brother (my god father Hugh) went with him for a few drinks before hitting the registration office … they then decided to lob in “Hugh” before Patrick … so without my mums knowledge I was registered as “Gerard Hugh Patrick” … by all accounts it was suggested … “he will never get a job with that name” … I think the addition of Hugh … wasn’t a big giveaway … I have worked all my days maybe with a bit more ignorance than discrimination…

Never let the bigots win …

And Scotland is as much our country as any other Scot

    Oh yes … I can boogie :-)

  24. Just catching up – Fan Tim, life affirming words, congratulations to you both.

    Matt – great pics

Lurkintm- your welcome – we always had to have creative strips when Morton wore the Hoops. They als where a decent side in the sixties and early seventies- at the end of the 68/68 season the last game at Parkhead (that’s what everyone on the Greenock bus called it) was against Morton – we had just stuffed original Rankers 4-0 in the Cup Final and had the treble trophies on a table in the Centre Curcle pre-match.

Morton only went and stuffed us 4-2 – and we had to go home to Greenock 😀

  25. I work on the railway,my wife is a deputy head at a primary school and my youngest son works in a supermarket as I pointed out to family members as we have been working throughout this pandemic we were certain to get the virus and so it proved as I tested positive 2 weeks ago.Whilst on train on certain routes the ” mandatory” wearing of masks, outwith commuter times, drops to around 20% to 30% of passengers now a small percentage of those may be medically exempt but the vast majority are arseholes who dont give a f##k about anybody but themselves and sadly Scotland’s population has a huge number of people like this.Parents turning up at the school to watch their kids play football without wearing masks and carrying a large cargo of beers…what chance do you have when that’s the level of stupidity we are dealing with.Customers at my son ‘s supermarket leaving their used masks and gloves in their trolleys .Wearing a mask all day at work is a pain but a small price to pay but these arseholes cant wear a mask for a 10 minute ride on a train or a visit to the supermarket…I remember some politician on Newsnight tell us how she “trusted the British people ” they must live in a parallel universe.

  26. Fan Tim,

A lovely story. Happy birthday to your good lady.
