Celtic continue cornering French youth team

397

Celtic look set to continue their cornering of the French youth international team by capturing Olivier Ntcham (21) this week. He would be the most recent signing in a productive relationship with Manchester City which has seen Patrick Roberts, Dedryck Boyata and Jason Denayer all make the journey to from Manchester to Glasgow.

Olivier joined City as a 16-year-old and has been on loan at Genoa for the last two years. The player will doubtlessly be impressed by the progress of Roberts and international teammate, Moussa Dembele, at Celtic Park.

Ntcham is an attacking central midfield player who will compete with Tom Rogic and Stuart Armstrong for a place in the team. At 21, he has played a lot less football than either of them, but with 30-odd games in Serie A under his belt whose progress has been meticulously planned by City since 16, we should be getting someone first-team ready.

A year ago, we were told our signings were a reaction to the arrival in town of Joey Barton. I wonder who has us worried this year? Or maybe we just plan our business well, pay our bills, tax and NI, then spend whatever is left over. Like we have done for 20 years.

Jimmynotpaul, A guy I worked with about 8 years ago , it was the afternnoon before one of our European games that night, told me ‘ a cannae wait to see the papes getting cuffed tonight’ . I asked him if he meant Celtic , he told who do you think I am talking about .

I advised him that hardly any Catholics played for our first team and why call us papes. He replied ‘ because ye ur’

Anti Catholic sentiment , to state the obvious, is not just a West of Scotland thing . The behaviour of some Hearts fans with regard to Catholicism , is a case in point.

Id say more in an institutional sense.

Who runs the show in Dundee etc.

There will always be tims in Dundee, but there will also be the spirit of the reformation.

    If you get my drift.

When i attended games at Dens Park when we played them there, the Dundee fans , lets just say, were not the most ecumenical I have come across.

The 1977 cup semi final against Dundee at Hamilton, it was a battle zone in the north enclosure with a few party tunes associated with the hunnic hordes , given laldy by the Dundee fans.

The Green Man, the mothers of two of my pals are from Dumfries.

My pals spent at least a fortnight in Dumfries each school summer holiday.

Each learnt who to tell they were Celtic fans to due to grief they previously got when asked what team they supported.

My wife’s niece lives in Dumfries. We were down seeing her last August. When we left , I noticed some Green Brigade stickers at the back of a road sign . Obviously some welcome Celtic interlopers down there now.

  9. Hi Bhoys

Regards the Dundee situation. As I have previously stated on here there are only 2 types of football supporter Celtic and ANTI Celtic.

Anti Celtic supporters are generally anti catholic no matter their profession, perceived position in society or bowling club.

This was the worst fighting that I have witnessed in my 45 years of watching Celtic, with the exception of the 1980 SCF.

There was running battles between the 2 sets of fans ,back and forth between the a Rangers end and the North Enclosure.

Tinytim, at one break in the fighting in the enclosure , a sort of no man’s land opened up for a few minutes.

One guy then took it upon himself to launch himself headfirst into the opposition fans, resulting in the boxing starting again.

About five minutes later, the same guy was on a stretcher , looking completely out of it, heading for the first aid area next to the South Stand. No doubt, he spent the night either in the Victoria Infirmary or a cell in Craigie Street polis station.

It would have been in march 2006, took Mrs TET over to Celtic Park, it was her first time there, anyways, missed my flight in Dublin and had to get another via Edinburgh instead of Prestwick, on the way back to Dublin, Edinburgh was packed with Hibs supporters waiting for the same flight as us and we got a right hard time from them, their hate towards the wife and I was palpable, so I agree with your surmation that it’s us and anti us.

There have been many other times but that one stands out for me.

The Green Man , i’ve had a number of pre and post match pints in Kilmarnock with my Killie supporting chum and his pals , with no hassle.

Jimmynotpaul and I are both pally with guy who is the Killie fan trust chairman and he edits the Kille fanzine also.

He still loves Tommy Burns , as do many Killie fans , according to him, and is eternally grateful for what Tommy did for his club. He does not really talk about Sally ‘s contribution ( or lack of of) at Rugby Park.

I can understand why a lot of our support cant stand Killie, but I have never had any grief at games from their support.

I know were your coming from. I worked in Linlithgow for a while with supporters of Hibs, Hearts,Dunfermline, Falkirk and the other club. They all couldn’t stand the fact that one of us was in their midst. I was quite lucky that i am 6ft and 16 stone with a broad Glasgow accent and a skinheid. They thought I was a “tough weegie”. I just played to the gallery and put them back in their box one at a time it was a real laugh.

Don’t care for any other clubs supporters and I never will. I’m a one club bhoy.

I lived in a place called Avonbridge for a while, I was as far as I could tell the only Celtic supporter in the village, it wasn’t a pleasant time in my life, I even got arrested for confronting the parents of bullys who gave my daughter grief, but if you don’t stand up to them you are fecked, I always found Edinburgh to be a beautiful city apart from the people who lived in it.
