Was anyone surprised at yesterday’s result? You shouldn’t have been. I don’t think I’ve ever before written two articles against taking a result for granted. Celtic are ridiculously inconsistent as Kilmarnock, Hibs, St Johnstone, Inverness and now St Mirren will testify, even Arbroath left Celtic Park with a draw. The intensity which has been self-evident on Champions League duty has been posted missing far too often.
Defeat yesterday was entirely possible as is defeat away to Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup on Sunday. There will be entirely different tactics and attitude when Juventus call next month but right now you’re feeling sore because, against all odds, we’ve conceded a League Cup final place and we’ll find an equally brave opponent at some point in the Scottish Cup unless a solution is found.
Speaking at the funeral of Sean Fallon last week, Sir Alex Ferguson referred to need for a manager to be a hard taskmaster, generating a corresponding need for the assistant manager to be plugged into the dressing room. I’m sure this is not the only way of managing a football team but it was how Jock Stein and Sean worked, and it’s how Sir Alex has worked for the last three decades.
Millionaire players need an edge in their lives to deliver on a lesser stage.
I had to be in Paisley all morning, which did not help my mood.

Options … Wouldn’t like to see the choices if you ended up in a white suit ;)
I couldn’t divulge the colour one of my suits were.
Only young once;-)
I can’t shake off the disappointment on this one……every Celtic player on that park, except Brown, needs to ‘take a good look at themselves’ ….. better leave it there, before I say something I will regret
Zonal Marking Celtic Style 2013 Stats:
4 games
17 corners conceded
0 goals conceded
Not that it provides any comfort for conceding 3 goals and losing the game yesterday
Norrie Martin in goal for deadco that day..
had a hotel next to Prestwick airport a few years ago..
Norrie Martin, 1969 CF.
Celtic mac,
Don’t be so offhand with the boss
Gerry Neef
1982 final was indeed a fantastic day -totally destroyed them 2-1 -soaked-quick change then off into town -went to Nightmoves Sauchiehall St where I met my wife for the first time -sitting with her right now in a lovely bar in Puerto Del Carmen where the sun has been cracking the flags all day
We’ll know the answer when my good friend SOAL posts the highlights of the game:o)
” We must not be too clever – we must only be clever ”
Jock Stein – before the game against Leeds Utd

It was a foot injury which finished Mark Rieper’s career I think.
He had played in the 1998 WC in France – think he scored a goal in one of the matches – and Denmark got to the quarter finals.
Never recovered and had to stop playing shortly thereafter.
Smashin player.

I cannot remember offhand if Jock Stein’s Celtic team ever actually lost a domestic Cup
Semi-Final, though there are some on here who might put me right on that point.
When did I ask that question.
Although I could probably tell you the answer
67heaven
I get the impression some of them couldnae care less…they pick up their wages regardless
Perhaps the win bonus wasn’t sufficient enough for some to feel compelled to apply themselves
Neil canamalar
You wouldn’t be saying that if you knew it was oldtim67 who recommended that Celtic sign Hughie Maxwell!
Torontony
Fed up big guy ..
Celtic Mac.

angelgabriel and tallybhoy:
It was indeed a toe injury that ended Rieper’s career.

We have more to be joyous about than sad
We have more to be happy about than others,
disappointment will fade,
liquidation is forever

How long was Rieper with us ?
I thought it was less than a season
Norrie Martin of course.
Niven was the goalie in the 7-1 game.

Hail Hail!
First Cup Final St Johnstone 1-0 October 69. Wee Bertie scored.
82 League Cup Final – wore new expensive coat. Ruined by full time. Still wore coat for years
Best Cup Final ? 6-1 v Hibs 72. Dixie hat trick. Arguably the best actual display of football I ever saw Celtic produce.
Worst? Dundee beating us 1-0 in 73/4. Freezing day , rotten crowd, RH Davidson blowing for time up with Jinky clean through on the goalie
Jimbo
I used to travel down to most games from the late 60s to the mid 70s, and in all honesty, I really can’t remember much about them, young and stupid, thought more about making a total twat of masel.
PFayr.
Did you have a look at that winehouse in Portugal, just about to go and order some more of the good stuff.
