Anto ran himself into the ground tonight, put in great shift, Brooney, Denayer, Virgil were excellent, Gordon was super excellent, thought Kayal made a great difference. We won a very tough European cliff hanger, how about looking at the positives.

Post-match analysis:
The RESULT was more important than the PERFORMANCE!
We have a degree of control in the Group – we have an International break coming up after Hamilton at home and a chance to get ourselves organised for 2 back-to-back ties.
Hopefully we will be in better shape 3 weeks tonight – players fit and a better understanding of the tactics RD is trying to achieve.

Pfayr… We agree…Berget is poor…had a chat with SFTB today and he agreed with me that RD,s decision to play him in Warsaw was hard to fathom…so whats next…us three in george sq(independence square) having a rally with John Reid guest speaker ….

Hmmm….
I’m happy with that.
Second half was disappointing though, especially given how ponderous and unthreatening we looked in their half.
Craig Gordon is the bargain of the decade. Hated him at Hearts. Funny how much more likeable players can become when they sign for Celtic.
Jo Inge Berget badly needs a shave and haircut unless he’s auditioning for Jesus Christ: Superstar. (If he is, nail him to a tree, wait three days, and see if it makes him play like Maradona).
Griffiths’ bit of time wasting late on was rather cynical – well done that bhoy.

Amazed at how far some will go tonight to spot a negative……
Whilst mentioning Johansen’s “passing”, by God how much energy that boy has.
See if our entire team had his fitness level and work rate?

I want the kid to succeed. Really liked him last season. I like ‘work rate’ players…..yip, all of that…….
But of late a good part of the reason he’s had to run about so much has been to chase down his own errant passing!
And he and Izzie (who played well) Almost ‘combined’ to create a classic howler for the Celtic Sieve DVD.

That was a typical Celtic performance in Europe … Rode our luck at times but a magnificent goal and a fantastic goalkeeper won it for us
If Astra lose all their remaining games in the group (a big assumption, I agree), then Celtic would go through to the next round with even a 0-0 or 1-1 draw at home to Salzburg, regardless of the result in the final game in Zagreb.
(I think.)

If all our team had Johansen’s fitness and work rate
We’d be the fittest , hardest working most rubbish footballing team anywhere
Johansen is a runabout daftie….tries very hard ..cannae play football tho
Scott Brown and Johansen are definitely incredibly fit and hard running. I’ve no doubt with Brown fit we would have scraped by Maribor.
But I don’t think the shape of the team is right – and in the final third (fantastic goal aside) we are poor.
We’ve got 4 points from a couple of shots in the last game and one tonight. And so Im really happy but…
The thing is .. I really feel we have some good players but it’s not quite working….

Top of the group well done Ronny and the team. Badly hit by injuries I know but a worry that we did not create one scoring opportunity in the second half. Craig superb, Tonev has plenty of pace and skill was impressed. Wakasu skilful and pacey but terrible final ball. Zagreb a different team in the second half and the final minutes were torture to watch. Scott brilliant and defense eight out of ten. Things starting to happen for Ronny and John keep it going lads.

Efe was composed one minute and sloppy the next. When he is in our third of the pitch I am nervous.
Agree to a degree with Guernica and Big Wavy that KC became the weak link.
He looked goosed from around 60 minutes… but Tonev in your midfield means you have one combative player less than you need. Tonev didn’t provide that much in attack either. As KC tired the midfield was left to Brown and Johansen.
Stokes worked his socks off and his one touch passing around the box is one of our X factors.
Does anyone ono when Lustig and Matthews are going to be back?

I’m happy… More than happy with the result.
Last half hour tho… I wish some players would compose themselves… It was panic stations of the highest order. Kick it anywhere…
Surely Collins a man who prided himself on the continental emphasis of possession play… He must be preaching to them, to retain the ball better.

Dreadful performance from all except CG. lots of effort, no shape , no confidence. Ball watching and getting caught wrond side of players so unable to put in a tackle. What do they do at training? Get Biton back in , and hope Lustig gets fit.
The players tired in the second half. Looked to me like they all need a good feed. Pie and chips and a bag o cheese n onion:-)

I thought the only way they wud score would be via a deflection
At times it seemed every defender and midfielder was in the box throwing themselves at the ball

I’m glad the mood after that result is positive. Wakaso looks to be able to supplement the 2 midfielders. Tonev might be able to do the same though he is much more gentlemanly in his approach. Wakaso is a powerful lad. I see folk looking forward to the return of James Forrest. I’m not sure James provides the same ability to cover back and into the middle as Wakaso on the opposite flank.
Brown was very exposed at times but was excellent under pressure. I hope Johansen can work on his passing. He maybe needs to take his foot away from the accelerator before he passes. He was about 25% better tonight but still too many lost passes.
Kayal again excellent when he came on. No booboos from Efe and Denayer was excellent.
I’d like someone to ask Ronny if he is ok with our midfield. The main problem tonight was distribution from midfield, too many hospital and Hail Mary passes across the field. Brown did well with a few smelly parcels. I’d like to see players in possession have more options when they are under pressure.
Stokes and Commons great for the goal but useless at retaining pressure and taking the ball away from the pressure. Commons handed possession back to Dinamo as many times as Johansen.
Lustig at Right back will be a real positive for this team.

Well done TSOAL for bringing some much needed culture to the blog. Here’s one of my favourites:
“Requiem for the Croppies”
The pockets of our greatcoats full of barley…
No kitchens on the run, no striking camp…
We moved quick and sudden in our own country.
The priest lay behind ditches with the tramp.
A people hardly marching… on the hike…
We found new tactics happening each day:
We’d cut through reins and rider with the pike
And stampede cattle into infantry,
Then retreat through hedges where cavalry must be thrown.
Until… on Vinegar Hill… the final conclave.
Terraced thousands died, shaking scythes at cannon.
The hillside blushed, soaked in our broken wave.
They buried us without shroud or coffin
And in August… the barley grew up out of our grave.
