  1. Mr Pastry

You clearly have a limited knowledge of Hamilton. They actually bring quite a lot to the party pound for pound. It is a well run club that nurtures and encourages young talent, gives a platform and offers opportunity. It has a strong focus on its community and has a fair and open culture.

They have a small support but so do Ross County who pound for pound also bring plenty to the party.

Worked with and played 5s with George Thom who has a housing background and is a decent bloke. Not a tim but has no issues with tims and certainly not a hun sympathiser. He must be retired by now. Would be impressed if he’s still playing.

Excellent post. All very accurate with regards Hamilton. As for Ross County, most welcoming away ground, in my opinion.

Mr Pastrys partner Mrs Pastry posted a few months ago, their posts were on the ball and they showed a sense of humour, although I suppose they would have to have a sense of humour…………………..

    Jerome the gnome!

I still see him in and around the west end with his window cleaner’s belt, pouches and shammies.

I think he trained at Ernst & Young or somewhere like that and I would love to have been a fly on the wall when he told them he was leaving to become a window cleaner.

Mind you, I think he is a window cleaner extroirdinaire with some very good contracts.

You make some good points re referees. They are not drawn from across society that is for sure and even among the so called professions, I know of one guy who qualified as a referee but never got a look in as he was not part of the West of Scotland Clique.

He is now a Sheriff and sits as a member of the review and appeals panels.

He was once told me a story about overturning a ban handed out to Neil Lennon for shouting and sewaring at the Referee in the tunnel.

Despite what was written in the match official’s report, when pressed the referee concerned said he didn’t hear what Lennon was meant to have shouted at him. Clearly, the evidence used to convict Lennon came from someone else who allegedly heard him shouting and swearing at the referee. and the referee concerned was doing all he could to make it plain that it was not him who reported Lennon ……. for some strange reason.

” Why do you think you couldn’t hear Mr Lennon” the referee was asked.

“Well” said the referee concerned ” To be honest, I was too busy shouting and swearing at Lennon to hear what he was shouting back!”

That part hadn’t reached the match official’s report.

    Case dismissed.

  5. jimtim on 3rd April 2016 1:19 pm Surely no one expected hamilton to take anything from the sheep . We will need to see to our own business . Really good to see a bit of fight in the team yesterday , something that’s been sadly lacking in the team for a while , and make no mistake in a fortnight s time it is something that will be required . I hope Ronny has these boys ( as if it’s needed) pumped up to get right into that mob . They are earmarked for a cup final place , and a return to European football , which is required for their survival , every helping hand possible will be afforded to them ( as we are all aware ) . To keep the outside influence from helping them we will need to up our game , and get into them from the off . – ———————————-

jimtim, se need to be ready for thecgamecagaunst the deadboys, but it’s imperative that we keep 11 men in the park. Any excuse will be exploited by the ref. Scott Brown’s been struggling recently but we really need him for this game. I thought Boyata played vey well yesterday.

Watching the Leicester game, seen plenty of fannies tucking into free doughnuts. Couldn’t help thinking of Johnny Craddock:)

Did you ever play fives at the Bearsden and Milngavie Highland games where George Takei (Mr Sulu from Star Trek) was the chieftain of the games?

Apparently, the bold George was so good as a chieftain and enjoyed it so much he was asked back to do it again.

  8. I think referees can influence the outcome of a match, but in the same way as players – their best efforts may or may not pay off.

Referees can do this not simply through big decisions like awarding a penalty or disallowing a perfectly good goal. They can do it with every singe, seemingly innocuous decision they make.

Madden yesterday was a good example. He allowed play to continue when Sviatchenko was barged off the ball, leading to Walker’s goal. Walker still had to put it in the net. We still had the opportunity to defend the situation, but if Madden had awarded the foul, then no goal for Hearts.

What really frustrated me yesterday was the amount of times Celtic won possession only for Madden to blow for a freekick to Hearts because of minimal contact. These kinds of decisions never seemed to go Celtic’s way when our players lost possession in the same circumstances.

The result of this was that Celtic were never able, especially in the second half, to achieve any momentum and Hearts had plenty of opportunity to fire high balls into our box.

Another thing that irked me yesterday was the way Madden allowed Juanma to throw his weight around, but would not allow defenders to match his aggression. Shortly before Hearts’ goal, Sviatchenko won a high ball in our half. As he jumped, Juanma nudged him and Hearts were given the freekick.

I’m undecided whether I’m going to watch the upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final against Goldfish FC, but one of the things I fear is that we are going to see the now traditional semi-final refereeing which has cost us so much since the demise of the original Rangers.

Last year, we were flying when we played them and they were 3rd best in the Championship. They’d no chance. This year, despite conceding nine goals in their last three games, the narrative around them is relentlessly positive and they think they have a chance. Whoever referees the match will be able to have a huge influence on the outcome.

  10. Angelgabriel,

If you were reading CQN after the previous Hearts game, you should remember that the referee was heavily criticised on here, particularly because he booked Paterson after about 5 minutes for fouling James Forrest, then allowed him free rein to continue doing it for the rest of the match. People have come on here often complaining about Collum and Clancy, precisely because they are perceived as being particularly hard on us because of what people believe is their religous affiliation.

So I ended up with him, costs me a fortune to feed and now the hunting season is in, he thinks he’s doing his bit by dropping dead birds and field mice at the doors.

I’ll say one thing, no more magpies in the street squawking at 5.00 in the morning. :)

  13. Quite fancy a Leicester EPL win, would prefer Tottenham as I always like the way they play the game. Any of the two would be a welcome change to the borefest we have witnessed as the mega bucks owners take control.

Southampton have been the better team in my opinion but what the hell. I will probably follow the Johnstones Paint Trophy as Barnsley are playing at Wembley.

I lived close to Barnsley a long time ago, for a short period of time. They are solid people in the way of my own people from the Lanarkshire coalfields. A team with a loyal support who worshipped Paddy McCourt in his short spell there. They also have a great community programme as a club, a few years ago I would often stop in Barnsley when in business down in Yorkshire and could see the training programmes they had in place across the town.

One of my son’s former team mates has been on Hamilton’s books for three years. He has come on in under 20’s games between us and Hamilton this season , impressing in each game and is only seventeen.

Hamilton have a very good youth set up. His family are all big Celtic fans but I was told his dad and him believed Hamilton to be the best option for him to develope.

Damo Lennon, yesterday we got a corner near the end of the game.

Madden had a clear view of Jaunma manhandling Mikael , again, as the corner was being taken.

Hearts ended up with a free kick as the ball was headed about the box.

Very impressed with Johnny Hayes today. A left footed player not afraid to use his right foot. He is the Dons most important player.

    Dallas 2.27.

    Thanks for that.

I was once friendly with Billy Reid the former Accies manager. Not that I’m not friendly with him any more but we lost touch when he moved to Norway.

Anyway because of that I experienced first hand the work Accies do in the community. Billy always said James McCarthy was different class to anyone he had ever coached. He would have chosen Scotland but Archie Knox seemingly didn’t fancy him, much to Billys annoyance, Ireland then came calling and the rest is history.

  19. rudicantfail on

Madden was his usual incompetent self yesterday. Him and Collum are prize fannies at interpreting the rules of the game.

Thankfully for us he was incompetent though. Scott Brown should have walked in the first 5 minutes for a shocking 2 footed lunge at a Diethun player. Different game if he would have carried out his job correctly at this point.

Think we should be more objective about referees’ performances rather than the lazy approach of MIBBERY even when there genuinely is nothing to see.

The biggest Orangeman since Dale Winton or the guy from the Tango Advert had a perfectly good goal chalked off yesterday too, against Raith Rovers, which would have got NEW Rangers over the line in their pub league.

Anyway hope you all enjoy watching the ‘Old Firm’ at Hampden soon. Especially the ones attending and legitimising their cheating.

Rangers are Dead … Long Live The Rangers. The new firm new mantra.

Damo Lennon. There is nothing in your post I disagree with , the point is that we see everything through our green tinted specs. The very same points you make regarding yesterday reflect my thoughts on the match.I was there.

However , in your post you never mentioned the two footed tackle by Broony. My Killie supporting neighbour sent me video footage to curb my paranoia. Madden is a crap referee. Out & out cheating Hun wae a whistle though is up for debate. HH.

Parkheadcumsalford. The knowledge of their faith being important tells us everything about the process for selection being rank rotten. It should be about abilities above anything. Then again it’s Scotland and the SFA control the policy. HH

Anyway asked him if he was related to Jim Jeffries, knowing what I meant, exit to the house :0)

  22. Fraser Foster, for my money, must be one of the best keepers in world football. Two unbelievable saves in the Leicester – Southampton game. We were so lucky to see him develop at Celtic Park.

Broony should have walked yesterday, some of the run of the mill infringements the jumbos got away with was pretty shocking…..by the way why no mention of the Patrick Roberts penalty, no foul because he didn’t go down ????

Jimmynotpaul, just after it was announced about James choosinf Ireland, I had the misfortune to hear the Real radio phone in. It was in 2008 I think.

The host, Ewan Cameron was going ballistic about James not choosing Scotland and really ramping things up with his over the top reaction.

Near the end of the show, the Hamilton secretary called up the show to put Cameron right on the situation.

The secretary said the only person to blame for the situation , as you mentioned in your post, was Archie Knox. Knox had consistently ignored James despite Hamilton contacting the SFA to tell them James would play for Scotland but due to Knox not picking him, the FIA had been in touch asking about his availabilty.

Cameron said very little in reply .

Knox comes over as a nasty and spiteful character any time I have seen him interviewed.
