Disagree to an extent, Christie may not have had such an impact if we didn’t make the substitutions, but we did, so the point is moot. He may still have the same impact against our tiring starters.
The lad did well and took advantage of our mistakes, he also had great movement and passing.

Malmö won 2-0 today securing the game in extra time after scoring their first in the 30th minute.
They should be fairly confident coming to Celtic Park on Wednesday.
Expect them to be concerned about our 4 goals and comforted by our careless concessions.

Great first half, just a pity we lost our way when Broonie and Armstrong went off. I think we now know our strongest starting X1.
I didn’t think that Christie controlled the game when he came on. They could have played til midnight and not scored, until we gifted them the first and quite possibly the second.
stephbhoy on
We controlled that game from the first to the seventy first minute, boyata had 20 minutes to forget until that point he won all his tackles and headers, just needs to keep it simple!!!!
brown was very good, bitton cool as it gets, amstrong and vvd were very good, griff grafted away, gms had off day, as did Johansson!!!
Allan and rogic are natural midfielders’ and so should be ahead of mulgrew in the pecking order in this area of the pitch. Question how long will it take for RD to recognise mulgrew cant play centre mid and mcgregor is not good enough for celtic???
hope we can get into c/l proper

Agree. They only came into the game when our complacency cost us two poor goals.I expect the tighter the game the more concentration.
Hamiltontim on
Christie came on after 49 minutes. I was impressed with his touch, energy and movement but it was only when Brown went off 13 minutes later that he made a tangible difference to the game.
Losing the two late goals doesn’t really concern me as it came after changes in personnel and shape and for 70 minutes we’d played some great stuff.
What does concern me is the frequency that Boyata gives the ball away in dangerous positions.

Really enjoyed the first half.
Hope that Broonie plays like that when MiT comes over! Immense! His skill levels are hugely underestimated by many.
4 or 5 at half time wouldn’t have been unjust.
So glad that Armstrong got the goals his confidence needed.
At the risk of sounding like Cowiebhoy (!) I just don’t see why McGregor gets into the playing squad.
Boyatta’s slackness is a worry. Against Ross county he misplaced 5 of 6 passes in under 10 mins. His confidence looked a bit shot after the first goal.
I thought Christie looked fab when he came on. Lovely exchanges, glides about the pitch, and deffo bulked up. Compare to McG’s input?
And the very thought of some original thinking coming out of Cowie, c’mon, you’re kidding no-one but yourself:-)
HT, his influence grew when Scott went off, but he was already having an impact.
What is the Stars on
Boyata also gave the ball away needlessly against Ross County in the build up to the craig Gordon non red card incident. However I thought he did very well away to Quarabag.
Is it possible that he switches off during the Scottish games but ups his performance for European challenges.
4-0 would have been a better result, hopefully a wake up call for young Boyata.
It just goes to show how much influence Broonie has in the team.
On a side note… Watching Sean Connery in Indiana Jones, I’ve always wondered if he has regrets getting sucked in with murrays lies?

HT, I know, mine was slightly different, he was already having an impact, that may have grown if Brown had stayed on, it may not. So my point, I suppose is, we won’t know whether he would have had as big an impact as he did, he may have, he may not.

I watched him carefully from when he came on but it was only because I’d seen him being mentioned on here. I was impressed with what I saw today.
Me too, I think he could add something to our team.
Insightful passing, some good runs by our forward, often doesn’t get spotted never mind picked out. Christie would add some more of that.
Good movement from him today too.

The reality is we contributed to both their goals.
Boyata has some strong defensive moments in physical encounters
He panicked after goal and was jittery thereafter.
The fact that he had less cover in front of him when Broonie and Johansen were replaced contributed.
Christie forund space when our personnel changed.
Defending requires a cohesive unit and once subs were made it was fractured.

I was impressed but I’m not convinced he’s better than what we’ve got, I’d need to see more of it.
We bang our gums about poor performances from individuals but I think supporters often lose sight of the fact that on the whole we’ve got good players and it would be very difficult to replace them.
Now we have signed Allan I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do.
Christie is worth watching though, I hope the club keep an eye on him.

Can I make my bid as one of the first advocates for young Mr Christie. Right back to the game where he came on as sub against us in one of his first games for ICT. Played with his head up, seemed to have time on the ball, and from a good football background.

There’s an argument that none of the guys (Christie, GMS, Allan, Wilson etc) are no where near good enough, unless our standards are dropping ?

Regards discussion of Tony Watt v Leigh Gtiffiths, it should be borne in mind that Ronny actually plays Leigh through the middle. Post Barcelona, Neil Lennon stuck Tony out wide on the left seriously reducing his effectiveness and I’m sure contributing to his frustration. Perhaps that’s a reason why Tony had a ratio of 1:4.
Cowiebhoy on
HT, I don’t mind Stokes, but not in Ronny’s plans from what we hear ? There is many I would let go before him. Scepovic included
Christie in my view at 20 has huge potential, he is as good a left footed player as anyone in Scotland, good touch and movement, decent pass and control, and a bit pace,
It’s the market we are operating, so just don’t think we should lose out on this one as well ?

SB did play well today. Long may it continue.
If we are to pick up the win on Wednesday, we will need at least the same level of performance from him, plus a bit more going forward from Biton than we saw today.. Qarabag were a very well organized team … Think the games against Malmö will be a bit more open than those two games,so hopefully there be some good football on display.

Really enjoyed today’s game. Ronny is giving us the kind of football we have been crying out for. They are creating loads of chances and at times it is a joy to watch.
I wonder though how this team would compare with say Strachans? I’m not to sure but at least going to games these days is really exciting and a great day out. Previously I never really got that worked up about going to games but now I can’t wait, is this because the other teams are worse than they were previously?
I really don’t know but Europe this season should answer a few questions for us all.
