We have the best squad in Scotland.

But we don’t have the best coach in the city.

    Pedestrian, predictable, punchless, prosaic pish.

    HH jg

    ————–

Agreed Ian McCall has Thistle playing some lovely football

  2. rangers are nothing special but they have a system – they get full backs who play diagonals into the box or short one twos in and around the box. They are well managed and coached in their roles. Celtic on the other hand look like we throw players out there and let them figure it out.

This is a season where w need a manager who can separate himself form the pressure of the 10. Instead he’s coaxed players into staying when they don’t want to be here, complained about this thing and the next and basically sat for 90mins with his arms folded.

Whatever he does, the players are not buying into it.

If we want the league – we need a shot in the arm and a fresh approach! Who fits the bill?

  3. Same comments after this performance that we’ve made all season – and for much of last season.

It really saddens me to realize that I’ve been transformed by this manager’s Celtic – from a happy clapper to a mine-shafter.

    Time for change Mr Desmond.

If only their rabid board members were present to wind you up – then you might feel motivated enough to do what needs to done.

Our coaching & preparation has been awful for so many games once NFL’s honeymoon period was over.

Losing games but pretending that offering excuses instead of honestly saying the obvious will suffice.

NFL has been guilty of that so often that his post game comments are no longer worth listening to.

Don’t confuse stubbornness & denial with loyalty to players & bland media speak.

If we don’t make changes at the top after this then we don’t deserve to win this league.

  4. We’ll win the league still!! Only thing that will stop us is arrogance and thinking we have a right! Best players – so Neil get them playing!

  5. CaddingtonCommon on

Impressed with Laxalt and to a lesser extent CalMac ………..that’s about it really.

Ability is variable but everyone should have the heart for this game.

    Hail Hail

    Stay Safe

  6. ExSlaemuirBhoy on

I had no confidence going into this game today, can’t remember that feeling coming over me Ever. We move on and dust ourselves down and roll on the next trophy

  7. Stubbs talking a lot of sense. We had the players to at least get a point today. That second half was very worrying.

  8. Dexter P. Bampot on

    Pathetic individual performances

    Pathetic managerial performance

    That result has been coming

Lennon is quite possibly throwing 10 in a row away.

When was the last time Celtic had no attempts on target in a match? Genuinely, does anyone know?

  9. SAINTSTIVS

Many posters saw this coming. There were red flags all over the place, all the way back to the Forster League Cup Final. The powers that be, including Neil Lennon, didn’t recognize them. Look at what complacency gets you. At the minimum, our attitude today should have been “We are not getting beat today.” No evidence for it. Were you happy watching that crap today?

  10. They have got miles better and, unfortunately we haven’t got miles better. There is no imagination or spark in the team. We seem to be soulless and lifeless, what is going on? por cierto.

  11. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Hhmm.

Best outcome today, obviously, would have been a victory.

Second best outcome is a defeat following a truly insipid performance ….

    BUT ONLY IF

…. it prompts some serious reflection and soul searching across the entire staff.

Celtic were very, very poor today against an ordinary but well drilled team.

And yet despite an almost incessant litany of negativity, bad luck, freak events and poor behaviours going back to pre-season …

… we have dropped 1 point more than Sevco.

This only gets fixed from within.

    Over to you Celtic.

  12. MCPHAIL BHOY on 17TH OCTOBER 2020 2:20 PM – in a nutshell, sir.

Straight away, that line-up spooked me – so many fails today; our right side particularly lame.

Anyoen thinking if we’da won w Ryan, Nir and Hatem in, misses the point. This is about attitude, confidence and tactics – their bench talked to each other thruout, Neil stuffed some snuss in his lips.

The one guy I didnt think shoulda been thrown in for a debut looked promising; HH Diego!!

Not for the first time Gerrard gets the better of Neil tactically

We did not just lose 2 nil – we lost the fear they had to play us

  14. I have been reading here all season, that the Huns are shite, they are far from shite, they have a good, well organized hardworking team and are a difficult side to beat.

Ref had feck all to do with it today, the better team won, they showed more skill & desire and at this moment of time they are probably favourites to win the Title.

Obviously losing Edouard, Christie, Bitton, Elhamed this week was a major factor, we had a makeshift defense and it showed, we were under pressure all game.

Man for man, they won the battles all over the pitch & our subs made little difference.

The only bright spot was Laxalt looked a decent addition.

Probably our worst showing against the Huns for a long long time.

We are all sick now and we need a wee bit of time to get over this, but it is early days, if we win our game in hand we are 2 points behind,

If we are good enough we will overhaul them, if we are not we restart next season under a new Manager.

  15. When we think back to the board boasting they never even considered anyone else for the managers job – after the post shower appointment.

It looks a little silly now.

I do not believe we will win the league with our current set up

No more excuses, no more blind faith

  16. The base point about us now — 20 months after BR left — is that we have no plan / no coaching / no tactics.

No amount of new players and extra talent will allow us to deliver with those handicaps.

The squad are rudderless — they are not playing for each other and they are not playing for NL because he is offering no leadership / direction / support.

We are a shambles and yet too many accept it.

I hold no special attraction to winning 10 — I still have nightmares how we reacted the last time this challenge was put in front of us — but I do want to win the SPL and this will not happen this season with NL in charge / SB starting.

Their is no culture of improvement / self criticism at CP — second rate is accepted as long as you are a fan.

  17. QF on 17TH OCTOBER 2020 2:36 PM

We’ll win the league still!! Only thing that will stop us is arrogance and thinking we have a right! Best players – so Neil get them playing!

Neil is quite clearly not capable of of “get them playing”.

That should be painfully OBVIOUS by now!!

  18. lets all do the huddle on

hands up if that performance came as a surprise to you given our performances this season and our recent form against them

    🙅‍♂️

  19. DIssapointed but not looking for heads to roll.

Conceded 2 poor goals . Griff had to start.

Win the game in hand and only 1 point behind.

Looking for an injection of spirit , Seen people

having a go at Frimps. He had 3 men on him the whole

game. Midfield poorbut we have had that arguement before.

Ntcham isn’t bothered enough, Brown just passes back,

Possibly time to accept changes. Thought Welsh did well

and Laxalt did well in his first game, Long way to go.

  20. lets all do the huddle on

Only thing that will stop us is arrogance and thinking we have a right!

    who thinks this?

    name names….

PORCIERTO – said this before, Scott Bain must be the most puzzled guy in Parkhead.

    I concur! por cierto

  22. Well, what can you say, except what some said before the game.Shocking team selection for a start.During the game which the Hun players never had to work for, some really poor performances from some.Duffy, dont get me started.Absolutely terrible.Elyanoussi, apart from the shocking miss, hopeless.Paddy,no service, lack of composure when he did get it,Frimpong, looked like a wee boy,who just stumbled into that match.Ntcham, looked disinterested.Broony, the best of our team.Calmac tried but apart from that great run and cross,1st half, never really hurt them.Laxsalt put in some great balls, but not a sinner on the end.Welsh, very good game.

The Huns did not need to even play well to win.Two attempts on target from them.Dear God.How poor were we.

  23. Thought the young boy welsh was steady enough . The new boy on the left looked good also . That’s it for me , can’t give plaudits to many more . I had to count how many players they had on the park ,looked like they had more than us . Where now bhoys

  24. CC @ 2.42

The MIB were not noticed today because our performance was so weak.

They did what they had to do — just a case it was not a lot.

SKY did what they had to do — which again was not a lot.

We turned up as amateurs today.

They turned up as second rate professionals which was more than enough.

  25. Absolutely no excuses. Too many just off their game. They had a plan. We didn’t. Or at least our plan didn’t work.

BUT, I recall writing a lengthy article back in Walter smiths time when we had lost what looked like a game they’d dominated. It sticks in my mind then because I was strangely relaxed about it and i am about this one.

Why? The difference today was two chances to score at either end not taken. We were utter gash, no doubt about it, we didn’t create near enough, but for once I was actually watching them a bit more than I normally do. Kent, despite claims he was terrorising us, did hee haw. Kamara was their best player. Despite his two goals goldson was also the most likely to balls up at the back for them.

I am concerned if we don’t go to them with an actual plan about how we get the ball to our danger men in more advanced areas and overcome what is a modernised version of the Smith style, we will get caught again (three times in a row now mr Lentnon!!!) But if and when we actually start to play as a team we will batter them. IF.

And thats my worry, they look like a well coached team of average players. That’s the style they use in Europe. It works to an extent as long as you get a bit of luck and take the chances. They will struggle against packed defences and to be honest I’m starting to think that letting them have the ball and hitting on the break a la MON at times, might not be the worst idea.

Lots to work on, lots to worry about, but it is all about what we do. They’ll only win this if we dont use it to sort ourselves out. This is not rocket science. In fact some of it is pretty basic.

Anyway, feel the hurt, drink it in and don’t let it happen again Celtic.

  26. My last post of the day because I’m determined to do something today and not stew on this because quite frankly, it’s not worth it. When players put in a performance like that then leave them to it. Lenny and everyone else need to do some self reflecting. We don’t look fit, we don’t look interested and we don’t look coached.

    Anyway, here’s my thinking for future games;

    1) get a settled team – no more constant chopping and changing.

    2) play the second string in the Europa.

    3) learn how to defend set pieces

No point talking about Lennon getting sacked, that will only happen at the end of the season if we don’t make the ten.

We’ll be second now for months. We need to develop the hunger of a chasing team. It’s all about reacting now and not allowing them to get too far out in front.

We’ve a big fight to win the ten. That much is very clear.

  27. How is it a makeshift defence when we have such an allegedly rich squad?

What are they doing at training week in, week out?

They should all know how to play in or deputise into various shapes and formations that actually work.

There’s a real lack of responsibility taking; Taylor and Frimpong have been coached to turn back and cough into Brown or CalMac.

We have a systems problem and a bunch of richly paid guys who just dont fancy it.

Long way to go true; even longer if we keep turning that kind of keich in. HH

Just saw your reply to ROLLINGSTONE. Your contributions to the blog, including the historical pics, are welcomed by many people. I am not looking for an argument here, but consider this – I played football, I managed football teams. I have my coaching badges. I was a Director of a major company. I can see and analyse what is in front of me, and deep down, I knew we would get beat today. I have not seen any evidence since the start of the season that would have convinced me to the contrary.

Looking backwards at nine in a row does not help us in the here and now, and something is seriously wrong when Allan McGregor could have sat in a deck chair for all of 90 minutes.
