  1. GFTB,

    Spot on again fella.

This is just the beginning and what a start for the big man…

  2. Frankie Conner was that linesman, he also let Celtic take throw ins from way in advance of the place where the ball went out, another rule just discarded.

For the record I’m pleased with the result and over the moon we are going to win the league, something that was unthinkable at the end of August.

However,I am being critical of today’s performance as it was too similar to that of a couple of weeks ago at Hampden where our midfield did not complete and was second to everything. I was hoping we’d learn something from it. We either didn’t or weren’t able to adapt, which is disappointing.

Anyway, if you can’t win the league against the Huns, I’ll happily take winning the league against their Edinburgh brethren.

We got beat 4-0 by Leverkusen 7 months ago, 14 games into his time here. Later we were a bawshair away from getting a result in Germany. Bodo/Glimt was a horror show but it was down to the lack of athleticism in the midfield, we even had Biton as a dm but we were overrun in both games. When we got it right in the other euro games the system and personal worked well.

In his system we need 3 mids who can get up and down, a sitting midfielder is redundant, especially in the spl.

We’re six points clear at the top of the league because Ange won’t compromise his style. We need all round midfielders, who can get up and down the pitch not disrupters.

“That may be true of SPFL fixtures but, when we lost 7:2 on age to Leverkusen and 5:1 to Boddo/Glimt and shipping 6 goals to Betis. the defence could benefit from some screening- where can we practice that except in SPFL?”

    ———————————————

Absolutely correct! There is a reason world class teams like Liverpool and Man City recruit players like Fabinho and Fernandinho. The teams are secure going forward knowing things are locked up tight at the back. And if the defensive midfielders are good enough, they can also chip in with a few goals of their own over the season.

One that was wasn’t bullied and dominated as they were in the last 2 hun games.

    And who would that be?

  7. Baffled by some of the comments today, given the state we were in and we are where we are with a negative spend, it’s nothing short of a miracle that the team and staff have performed like they have.

But entitlement creeps in and takes hold afore ye know it.

Oh and we are screaming out for a proper DM, been saying it for years now, ever since Vic left, europe will be beyond us without one, I had hoped James McCarthy was that man, sadly no, but they are out there, just need to find one.

2021/22 has been a carbon copy of 1997/98, Celtic appoint ‘unknown’ from Japan, lose first game 2-1 in Edinburgh but win League & Cup double, Rangers beat them 2-1 in Scottish Cup Semi, play 3rd place Hearts in Final, Sakala scores identical goal as Negri in a 1-1 at Celtic Park.

  9. Don’t think O,Riley is up to for Celtic to lightweight also as much as Carter Vickers is a good Centre Half but not for me ,there is better out there .

You’ve quoted the best two players in the world in their position (although Fernandinho looked like he was finished at the very top against Madrid in the week) Any team would have both at their best, we unfortunately are looking at players of a far inferior quality, who’s inclusion would mean wee would lose something in other parts of our game.

They both play for teams who play with a slightly different system to us because of the opposition they face every week.

Out of interest, in what part of the pitch do you think Fabinho spends most of his time?

  11. the long wait is over on

CCV , imho, is our player of the season and pivotal to our improvement this season.

Getting better than him, albeit he isn’t perfect, would be extremely difficult for the money we could afford.

    I guess it’s all about opinions…

    HH

  12. I’ve not seen one poster saying that they are disappointed with how the season has turned out, why are some on here suggesting that??

We didn’t play well today, you don’t lost Celtic supporter points for saying it.

  13. Ange’s Celtic doesn’t defend in the traditional way. We’ve been doing it all season with incredible success after a poor start when the players were either not here or coming to terms with the new system, why would you look to change it now? Its not like we’ve been humped by the Huns in both games, we could have won both of them while playing below our best.

Our best performances in Europe, some really good results against decent opposition have been when we played how Ange wants us to play and executed it well. Get back to that with players who are more settled and rested, with a few more prime additions to the squad and we’ll be good

It strikes me as change for change’s sake. Don’t look backwards

  14. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

    CCV “not for me”😂😂

    I’d sign him before Jota.

  15. According to the wages link posted above CCV is on £20k a week, no way he’s staying for chump change when the English lower leagues will pay more, sadly.

Starfelt was great today though, a bit ropey last 20 mins but on it up to that point, better game than CCV.

  16. Not just because he is on loan from Spurs but CCV reminds me at times of Ramon Vega … came up here (when many have failed to impress from the epl) and has enjoyed his football and improved our defence

Hope Cameron asks big Ramon what he should do next … if Bournemouth get promoted they are going to try and sign him … just hope CCV puts football before any other riches offered

Will be delighted if he stays as him and Carl are actually forming a terrific partnership … Starfekt was great today again … small steps but am loving it … yes we can always try and sign better players but I think the players we have are going to get better

  17. Some of Jota’s first half play was superb, if a bit greedy at times. I would love to see him sign but I have a feeling he will go elsewhere.

  18. ConeyBhoy: cheers for that, likewise.

I wanted us to win, a girfuy after last season, but it wasn’t to be.

About to win the league in comparison to where we were last year, what a turnaround!

We’ve a long way to go, but in Ange I trust.

  19. Jinkyredstar on

When we add this year we will have won 17 titles since ‘98, every version of the team from Ibrox have won 8 (only one of which is in the last ten years)

Please complete this well known phrase – Lurkin Huns get it……….

  20. onenightinlisbon on

CAnnot believe the negativity coming from “Celtic” fans on here………….

  21. Screw the nut. O’Riley is a fantastic player.

Guys Huns have won feck all.

    1 trophy in 10 year.

Since when where they our benchmark. The SMSM would have u think they are world beaters, they are not.

Screw the nut, we win this league it is a better achievment even if they get to final of europa league and get pumped as they will.

    So come on.

Focus on where we were and where we are now.

    D :)

  22. oh bhoy, great result. Can’t believe we drew with the European champions who had kent in their side

  23. We were in the doldrums after NFL debacle.

    So come ob.

    We are Glasgow Celtic ooooh.

Karaoke starting at the Howgait soon and my 1st 2 are do you come from the land down under and hey you with the long face come up to my place…..

    D :(

  24. Some buffoon on FF thinks we have the bigger squad rebuild in the summer.

We need a few tweaks. No CL for them could mean the loss of Aribo and Kent.

Neil brought us many many good times … the world changed in March 2020…. I would t blame Neil Lennon for a world pandemic … although some would :-)

My mantra is too enjoy Ange and appreciate every trophy he delivers

In fact I hope Ange brings me half the trophies Neil did as player / manager …

Hopefully Ange is earning his legendary status

In my eyes Neil is already there … and if Neil had managed to get the “10” we wouldn’t have Ange …

Celtic fans should back Ange to the hilt, leave it too the Huns to run Neil down ….

God bless Neil Lennon & Ange :-)

They both bring us joy, one in the past and one in the here and now … here we go 1 @ row 🍀

As for the karaoke … get singing deepche mode

“Just can’t get enough” enjoy your day mate 🍀

Would have took a draw at 4:10 this morning when I woke up, would have

settled for the same at h/t.

This is or will be a great league victory considering our starting position. it takes

a very good side to get to a Europa league semi~final.

  27. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Out of interest, who’s in the other e Europa semi?

  28. prestonpans bhoys on

Would be interesting to see if the MSM comment on the Union Bears trying to attack Celtic fans at the end of the game😕

  29. That awkward moment when a sevco player is told “You’re the Cinch premiership man of the match, congratulations. James, would you do the honours.”

  30. the long wait is over on

No wonder the MSM is going down the tubes.

From the Herald webpage. – incredible amount of inaccuracy and error in a few short lines in an article about when we could win the league.

“Saturday 7 May – vs Hearts at Celtic Park

Celtic could win the title next week at home against Robbie Neilson’s men – but only if Rangers drop points.

Should Celtic win they could extend their lead to an uncatchable nine points with two games left if Rangers draw or lose to Dundee United the following day.

Wednesday 11 May – vs Dundee United at Tannadice

Celtic’s next opportunity to win the league would come at Tannadice the following weekend.”

How can we win it at home next weekend if rangers don’t play till the next day?

Then Wednesday suddenly becomes the weekend?

    Clowns.

  31. Nye Bevans 5.15pm

Their Europa run whether we like it or not is formidable … although they are set up for Europe with a defence that their midfield actually protects … the last time we had decent results in Europe Lambert & Lennon were protecting 3 giants at centre half :-)

Got a feeling Leipzig will pick them off on Thursday but I have been saying that since their first game in the Europa this season …. Surely their luck will run out at some time :-)

As you say main thing today … avoid defeat, nobody will care about any chances missed … well apart from me who has Jota hattrick 375/1 with paddy power .. but as you know a gambler /fool and his money are easily parted … I did start dreaming when that cross went in and I thought Jota was going to notch his 2nd :-)

    Give Mccarthy a run .

HIs last run of starts was a loss against Livingston and getting hooked at half time at home to Dundee when we drew.
