  1. The same deid Klub thing is resolved for most…the majority… thur a new klub its just scoddland supportin’ its Ugly Sister.

The impetus behind beatin’ thems is to stick it into the gullet o’ thur horrible ugly support and every wee sleekit in and around the game who plays along with the myth.

Ange has little experience at this level of pressure and expectation.

He’s 56, managed nearly 600 games, won titles in Australia and Japan and coached a team in the World Cup.

The burden of expectation and the level of scrutiny he’s now dealing with is a new experience for him.

  6. Sorry Ange, love you,and you have performed a miracle, but no way am I accepting your reasons for playing a kid,Hatate, who is physically and mentally shattered. All I can see happening there is the boy losing confidence and belief. He has nothing to prove to us,we know how good he is.

The main point being we went into a game against them, basically with a very weakened midfield,to prove some point, that did not need making.

Looking forward to seeing a fully rested, brilliant young player, with a Celtic pre season under his belt next season.

“We are not great defensively — not sure how the MF have been set up to play?”

    ————————————-

I think that we need a more detailed and knowledgeable analysis if you are going to evaluate it as “not great”. It is unconvincing to say – “I don’t understand it but it’s not great”

The facts don’t back that up. 19 clean sheets in 35 league games and conceding only 20 goals show that the outcomes at SPFL level are good.

My worries centre around the lack of cover at CB, especially if CCV and Jullien both go and we get a Taylor upgrade. We will then be bedding in a new defence and defensive cover.

If Burnley 78’s intuitions turn out to be accurate, then I think we have missed a trick. Paul 67 has often talked about us having to recruit in that difficult area between a player developing to a good enough level and other bigger-spending club spotting that development. Well, the same thing should apply with “loan to Buy” deals. Once we knew that CCV and Jota were not only “not duds” but actually much better than we had available to us, we should have secured the “Buy” part of the deal. I understand we should not enforce the Buy option straight away before we know if they can enhance us but if we wait until Benfica have a new manager and before EPL teams start to notice that our loanees are playing well, then they are bound to be unwilling to commit to Celtic.

Could we have secured a signing of Jota and CCV if we persuaded them to sign but set a lower transfer buy-out clause than normal e.g. agreeing to sell CCV for only £15-18 m if we paid the £10m for him and agreeing similar with Jota, would this not have re-assured both players that they would not miss out on a lucrative deal by committing to Celtic but we too could have made a bob or two out of providing the platform that made them valuable?

  8. Ernie,

I am sure he came under massive scrutiny in Japan who have fanatical fans and a very rabid press to satisfy them.

I am going to give you a rest, the supporters say your knackered and you gave that daft interview that your tired with the travel, so i am going to do whats best for you.

Manager to sport science department –

    he is knackered yes ?

well no boss, he is doing the same amount of running as he did before and coveri g the same kms.

but he keeps giving the ball away

well no boss, he did it twice here, and twice at hampden

    ah but cqn says different.

I see Kris Commons being quoted as saying Celtic have a glass jaw. It’s a harsh assessment but perhaps there’s a germ of truth in it. For long periods of the game it was a jittery performance with a lot of unforced errors, misplaced passes and wild clearances. A learning experience though for the manager and the newer players.

    ——

I don’t think we start or finish games particularly well at times. If unsettled early in bigger games we seem to struggle to get control of the game.

Different. A supportive audience and media. Little expected. Just happy to have qualified.

Celtic fans expect and demand success. The media and the football establishment in Scotland are hostile.

Poor defensively — your stats mark you out as a Bronski / SPL boy.

Our performance in the EuL / EuCL — you might have heard of them / Thursday nights on BT — would suggest that we have a lot to learn regarding the defensive side of football.

Sorry if you missed the evidence on display yesterday — there was quite a lot — but we were again poor defensively.

RK was not handled well in the first half — MF not doing enough to support the FB.

FS was not dealt with well in the second half and if he had a bit more class he could have had a hat trick and really spoiled our day — the MF had evaporated by the time he took his goal.

Consequently dream on with your Hame’ll dae me view of our defence.

So my main point stands — we are not good defensively but the SPL does not highlight our weaknesses while the EuL / EuCL do and that is nowhere good enough if we want to be players in the CL and not tourists.

  14. Is CCV good enough for the EPL,I don’t think so.The Championship, probably.Mc Kenna does OK there for Forest.Just my opinion.Leicester have a huge problem with their defence, but not sure CCV is the guy to solve that.

If Celtic can’t compete with Championship wages next season, then we do have a problem.

Dealing with expectation and scrutiny as a football manager is clearly nothing new.

In terms of the challenges he faces as Celtic manager they are without doubt experiences he’ll be able to draw on to help him and his players deal with the pressure.

If he read here at the start of the season he’d be forgiven for feeling like he had a bit of a free hit this season, expectations were so low.
