OMG the Europa final’s in Seville. Had no idea.

RB have to go through. The poor people of Seville.

They need a goal and can’t play another 5-5 formation. RB will surely have more space to play.

We were 3:1 down from the first leg at home when Nir was introduced for the 2nd leg, I think Callum makes for a mobile and brave DM but is basically a scoring AM as is Hatate. Bitton is cool and unflustered but not one of the three is a great tackler.

I am greatly pleased with what Ange has done with what is available but I still expect him to want to improve the squad and will seek a midfielder who is more of a help to the defence. We have many players with attacking skill but we need a few more physical specimens to complement them, especially if we do not retain CCV

  3. I assume everyone who watched the game will have seen the warmth of the embrace between Ange and GVB, before game started and at the end.

These guys like and respect each other. That has to be a good thing, no? I would imagine that Ange wished him all the best for Thursday and meant it.

    :-)

I think after winning so much for so long we all began to doubt at every single dropped point

We can “hopefully” enjoy the season once it’s over… 3 more points in 3 games … Ange’s record since September in the league is probably as good if not better than the invincible season …

Anyhow I’m recent years … god bless them all… Brendan, Ronny, Neil & Ange, none of them mean to disappoint us :-)

BBC sport Scotland report mentioned it, Dick Gordon talking about it, he didnt know what started it, McCann, yes EBT McCann saying Celtic fans were throwing bottles into the Corner where Sevco fans were, others were saying it was cups and other stuff being thrown by both.

I only saw a surge from UB to the stewards, this is not like the bigot dome where huns are directly above you and can coin you. That’s a good bit between the supporters and worthy of Olympic gold getting it chucked there.

Best media narrative they are all to blame😵

  7. As you say it was Dundee utd.

He had taken a been injured in a bad challenge from Fuchs

  8. Goes without saying Ange deserves immense credit.

I do however get apprehensive about lads saying Ange won’t compromise.

If that’s the case then we can expect some absolute tankings in the champions league.

    They missed chances

    We are CHAMPIONS

    They are NOT.

  11. So glad to get the 3 points there.should have been well ahead at half-time but again a poor 2nd have performance .we lost our shape to easily when under pressure and were diving in and missing tackles in midfield.

    Draw probably fair result.

Thought CCV and Starfelt played well.Callum too tho he didnt finish game well.Jota best attacker.the huns had to win.they didnt.bring on the Hearts!

Cannot see any reason why they were in there today, many bottles at Ibrox and 1 known arrest for it, the rest nothing said or any known arrests. They cannot behave, have proved they cannot behave and someone will be seriously hurt or worse.

You’ve quoted the best two players in the world in their position (although Fernandinho looked like he was finished at the very top against Madrid in the week) Any team would have both at their best, we unfortunately are looking at players of a far inferior quality, who’s inclusion would mean wee would lose something in other parts of our game.

They both play for teams who play with a slightly different system to us because of the opposition they face every week.

Out of interest, in what part of the pitch do you think Fabinho spends most of his time?

    ————————————————-

Just reading back, and saw your post. Firstly, I’m not suggesting we could afford players anywhere near their quality! We need to cut our cloth to suit our budget, but we need some physically strong and fast players to protect our defence when it is called for, particularly away in Europe. When we played Red Star away, back in the 60’s, protecting a 5-1 lead, Jock had Murdoch, Connelly and Brogan sitting in front of the gaps in the back 4, presenting a compact 7 man defence that was almost impenetrable. ( I acknowledge that none of the 3 was fast, but they were very strong. All could tackle, 2 were skillful and exceptional passers if a ball ).

As for Fernandinho last week, he was forced into a position at right back against the speedy Vinicius Jr. that didn’t suit him, because Man City had no available right backs. Fabinho spends most of his time dead center of Liverpool’s 3 man midfield, forming a triangle with the 2 center backs. Last season, when Liverpool had Van Dyck, Gomez, Matip and one other center back all injured at the same time, Fabinho was flexible enough to play right or left center back. He may have also filled in at right back for a game or two. We won’t get anyone near as good, but we need someone secure who’s duties are primarily defensive. Most of our midfielders couldn’t tackle a fish supper. We tried with Soro, but unfortunately, he was not good enough.

  14. Against all expectations Celtic now within touching distance of the title. Main thing was not to lose today, in a game of two halves. Celtic should have had full points wrapped up by the interval and Newco had nothing to lose and really went for it in the second half and the Hoops became edgy. Not the first time we’ve watched this second half form syndrome dip. Has to be addressed next season. Delighted with the result.

Last half hour today was a bit ragged and we should’ve put the game to bed before that, but big picture..- we should be forever grateful for what Ange and his entirely new team have achieved for us this season. It’s really remarkable when you stop and think about it. Of course we all get a bit greedy and want more, incl sticking it to the huns today. But general atmosphere is jubilant and rightly so. I think we’ll truly appreciate the long-term value of this achievement over the next 5-10 years. Massive.

PS Hart, Starfelt, CCV all epic again today. And of course. CalMac. Sakala’s goal was a superb finish and had to be absolutely inch perfect. Hart has been brilliant for us.

We were 3:1 down from the first leg at home when Nir was introduced for the 2nd leg.

The lack of mobility in the midfield was even more obvious in the second leg than the first from what I remember. I remember saying as much on the night, and the same thing being echoed by Paul67 the day after (so it must be right:)).

I agree, we need someone more defensively-minded in the squad but not at the expense of Ange’s system. We don’t beat the Huns by stopping them, we beat them by beating their press and playing in the spaces behind. Every time we do it against them we look like capable of scoring, in every game.

We nearly lost today because we couldn’t keep hold of the ball, and kept hoofing it forward. if it keeps coming back we’ll concede against better teams.

I don’t think a shield or a traditional defensive mid helps. I think it solves the wrong, lesser problem and means the system is less effective, even against better teams. And I don’t think we should be changing what has worked in Germany, and against Betis and Fener in both games. Its Ange’s way, we defend by attacking, in their half, high press. Its high risk but it has worked for us this season.

You probably know my feelings about players in Ange’s system and physicality. Since we’ve stopped conceding from set pieces I’m far more relaxed about the size of our players, and in Europe against most teams its not as much of a factor as speed, technique and stamina. Everyone utilises a high press, most are better Four or five games against the Huns apart, Anges football doesn’t need big guys for Scotland, this season has proved that. And the wee guys have done well enough this season against them.

Not being contrary, just my thoughts – big strong guys who play how Ange wants to are hard to find on our budget.

  19. I love Greg Taylor and he’s done an excellent job this season but I do think a quick left back will make a big difference to the team.

And a fit and sharp Kyogo with a proper rest and pre-season will be a superstar.

As you might realise .. I do zero research .. just type what I would say out loud if telling rubbish in the boozer …

Maybe Ange’s record is maybe “more impressive” considering none of us knew many of the players he signed

By the way I don’t care a jot am just delighted in the here and now

  21. Stephbhoy67 on

We should have been a few goals to the good 1st half but that’s football. Playing out from the back second half was not working and left us exposed time and again. They happily went long and picked up second balls in the middle. Don’t thin Ange needs me to tell him what’s lacking. Now just go win this league.

    Priority signings needs to include

A pacey leftback who is comfortable on the ball.

A leftsided centreback who is comfortable on the ball.

A more physical , pacey midfielder who likes doing the dirty side of the game.

Lastly playing out from the back is not only about short sharp passes, when teams overlaod the press i.e last 20 minutrs today let’s be more direct. Couple of more direct planned plays will likely reduce said tactic because quick and direct renders it pointless and risky

I don’t want to sound cheeky but that was over 50 years ago. The game has moved on immeasurably in the last ten years, even Martin O’Neill who was one of the best managers of his time in Britain is yesterdays man

Fabinho spends most of his time halfway inside the opposition half, because the rest of the team play so high up the pitch. He’s rarely screening his back 4, who play a very high back 4. Liverpool with him, Tiago and Henderson in the midfield are able to play 3 world class all-round midfielders. We’ll get someone who will have a weakness in their game, and if that weakness undermines Ange’s system then we’ll suffer going forward

Sign and play a more defensive-minded midfielder but not someone who blunts our attacking instincts. We should remember Broonie last season

  26. I don’t think the huns are particularly good. By that I don’t think they’re good technically and certainly are not pleasing on the eye.

Very functional, very honest in their efforts with everyone working for the team and aware of their jobs.

Today we paid the same price that red star paid in that we didn’t put the game to bed and missed chances that shouldn’t have been missed.

That’s hope Liepzig have their shooting boots on for Thursday.
