    Ronny Deila’s high pressing game worked right from the kick off, unfortunately it was Salzburg who were, playing it, with a better squad.

    Neganon, what a ludicrous statement that Ronny is the luckiest manager ever. Neil Lennon had the same luck and did not qualify from his first foray in the Europa.

     

     

    I also find it ludicrous that people expect to beat a team of Swlzburgs calibre without blinking. The same folk think we have a right to beat Astra. Zagreb just lost a must win game there.Liverpool drew with Ldogrets – I bet ryecatcher and his pals expected to beat them as well.

     

    This Celtic team Have had its best talent removed and replaced by inferior players. Poor scouting of players has led to the signings of Boerrigter, Biton, Tonev, Scepovic, Pukki, Griffiths. None of these have improved the team. There needs to be a root and branch removal of those responsible for bringing in those players. You cannot spend the millions we have spent replacing Wanyama, Hooper, Ledley and Samaras on inferior players but we have contrived to do that. We have found 3 good players, possibly 4 in Johansen down the spine. We need another 1 in the midfield a least and an alternative or partner for Guidetti.

     

    Johansen came in for criticism but how many goals has he scored now? I think we have found a mobile replacement for Commons who can play in the manner that is needed under Ronny.

     

    We needed at least 1 other striker back when Hooper was banging them in and we still need that won with Guidetti. Wanyama has not been replaced. Samaras and Ledley have certainly not been replaced with anywhere near the same quality. Our scouts appear arrogant In their attitude towards the players tha leave believing we can replace them easily. That is patently bt the case.

     

    Sme cracking ties for us in the knock out rounds. I hope all those top tier absentees clear heir diaries or maybe the spoilt brats will stay in the comfort of their own homes posting complete tosh.

    Mcgregor not in it , up to the goal Johanson was the same , stokes Is just stokes on European nights . we can’t expect anything unless all our players are getting stuck in . Having said that we’re still in it , but no room for passengers . Coybig .

    I thought we played well enough for the draw. We need to be sharper at the start of the game though.

     

     

    We can leave this group with 11 points, but I’m sure others will talk about other results going our way. That’s what league football is about. If you get results other teams don’t you progress. That’s what we’ve done.

    Said I’d make up my mind about Ronny by the end of November. Well, it’s the end of November an I’m none the wiser. I was looking for progress from the mess we were at the start of the season , and qualifying for Europe after Xmas is all I would’ve asked for, but we really need to start looking like a cohesive unit rather than 11 players.

     

    Ronny deserves to see through the European campaign at least.

     

    There’s something about Ronny’s intreviews that gives me hope. Still think he’s got a plan!

     

    Mixed feelings but, hey! We’re through with a game to spare.

     

    Who wouldn’t have taken that before the first game?

    Awe naw, John Collins had Salzburg down as the best pressing team in Europe. He wasn’t far from the truth.

     

    Sme folk just expect to turn up for their Champions League steak every year. Probably the same folk that want Rangers back and miss ye olde wrestling.

    We have earned a fortune from transfer fees and CL income, yet we didn’t even reinvest the Hooper money for example.

     

     

    Despite having sympathy with aspects of your argument, your point about overspending is disingenuous and unfair, some of us respect the need for prudent management but also believe that investment is needed: that isn’t necessarily a contradiction.

    Based on that tonight we have 2 games in Europe left this season. A Celtic team that was not able to master the basics and lacked fight at times.

     

     

    Lawwell has downsized the team/squad to the bare bones. How many of the Celtic team would get in Salzburg team…not many. Salzburg may scrape by next round but last 16 or last 8 they will shown up as an average team.

     

     

    Lawwell can sell VIrgil now ….. It is time he secured his bonus.

    SFTB had the good fortune to be at the game tonight. The timing of my posts is accounted for by a walk from CP to Dalmarnock Train Station, a rant at the police for keeping all Celtic fans outside of the station until the train arrived on the platform (brilliant strategy plod) and the train to home.

     

     

    I want to talk about the fitba tonight and the police change of tactics ( I saw several young people charged with drinking in the street on the way to the match, in contrast to the treatment of the Tartan Army.

     

     

    I have no interest in discussing Culloden and the Jacobite failures with a poster that has never made a fitba statement other than Delia is rubbish and Celtic are rubbish.

    Didnt expect much when i saw the starting 11.

     

     

    Amongst other things, it was the same old Celtic story of having no height apart from the 2 centre backs.

     

     

    We aren’t good enough to outpass a team like Salzburg so we need an out ball like Sammi used to be.

     

     

    Guidetti will hopefully be that but i would have had Scepovic starting as he can win headers.

     

     

    Other point was the ref gave some very trivial fouls against us yet let a lot of theirs go.

     

     

    Still, there are some big teams left – Napoli, Inter etc. Hard to see us getting much further.

    Evening all

     

     

    Awful first 25. Looked like we could lose by 5 or 6. Lot better after that but there are players who IMO are not good enough. Izzy put one great cross but was otherwise terrible. Stokes and McGregor are not good enough either especially playing on their ‘wrong feet’. I liked Tonev when he came on and Broony and Stefan J were excellent and I didn’t think Mulgrew or Griffiths were bad once the team got into the game. Efe and Adam M try hard but we missed Denayer and Lustig a lot.

     

     

    Manager? Jury still not heard all the evidence far less discussing a verdict. We are a bit under par in the League ( but, er, top) and to get past Christmas from this group is good even if we have not played well

     

     

    Team is toiling though and new faces needed.
