TnT – I agree and understand what you are saying mate.

But I refuse point blank to be critical of our club on a public forum.

Not at this moment in time in particular,as our zombie friends will be all over this place like a rash.

There are lots of posts here to keep them amused, but they won’t be getting any joy from me.

    Slan.

Lennon keeps putting the fear of failure into the team by saying how good the opposition is

even does it for away games in spl ,no wonder we play crap at Dingwall Inverness and most small away games, really need a manager who can motivate, and who does not believe in zonal marking, and who wont play a completely new centre back pairing in the most important game of the season so far,as for Lawwell he could have given Wilson a bung to stay a few more weeks and let him train with notts forrest to be near his family and flown him up before games, but he only cares about his bonus does pirate pete

I’m emotional and angry at the moment. I have already criticised Neil heavily for his total lack of pre- season organisation. I’ll say it again, he wasted his chance to organise his team during the summer tour of Germany. Peter Lawell failed to provide a proven striker and sold the spine of our team including a proven striker.

I consider myself an optimist and will say right now that we will beat Shakter in extra time or penalty kicks. I have faith in our fans to make it a special European night at Celtic Park rather than have faith in our manager at the moment. This is my last post on here until next week. I will of course come on to wish the team and manager good luck before the game.

    Hail! Hail!

  4. Can I suggest that those who want to throw foul language and abuse at Celtic players on CQN this evening drop wee Oscar’s name from their monikers until they calm down.

The association won’t make for pleasant reading tomorrow in the cold light of day.

Forster – least convincing 6’7” goalkeeper of all time – not a ‘boss’

Lustig – decent but injury prone

Izzy – peaked 18 months ago imo..move on at first opportunity

    DVD-Rubbish

    Mouyokolo- Rubbish

Mulgrew – great at SPL, lost at CL level

Ledley – steady but no star

Brown – never a leader..struggles even as captain to hold his place

Forrest – has peaked 18 months ago

Commons – great player needs to shift it to be the player he can be but decent tonight

Sami – great player, not his night

Matthews – needs backed give him his chance and he’ll reward us

The green brigade will be our extra man next week………..awe shite we already sacked our extra man last week.

At least the europa league cash will cover the cost of the mega charter plane.

A shameful performance all round with Commons the only player to receive plus marks.

    Bah :-((

  7. MM 18:12 you are wasting your time there has been loads of us saying that the team is not good enough, we need 1 striker at least a CM who can command the holding area and a CB.

PL played a dangerous game and lost in any other business he would be sacked.

Also the only credit I will give that Ming the Merciless mob is that the slaughter of the sheep seemed to work it’s magic.

Fair play to them on that score, only problem now for them is…they won’t be able to sacrifice any sheep next week.

  9. Professor Green on

Just caught the end of that. Van Dyke looked like his tongue was hanging out in the last 10 minutes and Mouyokolo looked the same. No where near fit.

The same team struggled to create anything against 11 men dons on Saturday and are so short of quality upfront that they are entirely predictable.

Just hope the new Dutch winger can produce something different in the 2nd leg

If not then the Celtic board have got some serious explaining to do. With at least Europa league secured after the last tie the boat should have been well and truly pushed out to bring in a decent striker. Wilson should not have been allowed to go until the qualifiers were over.

  10. Two goals down against a team of that standard is not good but they got the breaks ( we hit the bar, their 2nd was a deflection that found the scorer and Forrest could have got the decisive away goal).

They will spend even more time defending at CP and as long as we do not play crab football (and that is always a possibility) over 90 minutes we should be able to do the business.

On the running theme that things should be much more comfortable with replacements in place that is a no brainer and I would love to know what determines whether we sign a player or not. I do not buy it is on the whim of one guy, there has to be a footballing assesment of where we are and consequences of failing to strengthen.

Izzy was at fault for second goal btw and Foster created the conditions for the first.

Towel chuckers may leave the room.

  11. Joe Filippis Haircut on

As far as managers go we all knew when Lennie was appointed he would have to learn on the job tonight he met an old fox and it is round one to the fox.We now need to see if Lennie and the team have learned from it we have in our history beaten better teams than Shaktor by 3 goals so next weeks game at Parkhead could be epic so lets wait until after that to make our judgments. H.H.

  12. Am I the only one that thinks it was a decent performance? On another day we would have scored 2 or 3 from the chances created. Good ball retention for much of the game which is essential at European level. When did we last see 70% possession away from home? Having said that I feel many did not come close to pass marks. Forrest looked lost and at times disinterested. Izzy if playing should be deployed at left midfield as positionally poor defensively but always a useful threat going forward. Sammi also looked his usual lethargic self. Anyway, I look forward to a 3-0 at C.P.

Get an early goal next week, then watch that mob collapse.

    ———

If we had had enough confidence in OUR game tonight, that mob would have collapsed. But we showed fear. And they gained confidence from nowhere.

Their keeper and back line had the toughness of a Kleenex but we put no pressure n them. Sammi should be embarrassed but he won’t and, of course, we must not criticise him as he is very sensitive. Sammi – you are a disgrace – you kept out guys who might would have sunk that mob.

I have respect for Neil but he needs help with coaching and tactics.

    Almost certainly, YES.

  15. Hugh Bonkle fae Dallas on

I think we’ve just lost to a team that are at least 2 levels below Artmedia Bratislava. Absolutely shocking performance.

Ps I still think we’ll go through the tie, that’s how bad that team is.

  16. We’ll win the return 4-1. 2 for Boerrigter, Commons and Samaras. They’ll get a not too late goal to make us all nervous. The atmosphere will be stupendous, GB or no GB.

Neil Lennon speaking to media: “It’s a big task but the tie is far from over. We have plenty in us to turn the deficit around.

  18. NL: “The players will be very motivated. A few players disappointed with their performances. Still well in this tie but a lot to do.

  19. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

Fully expect Celtic to beat Shakhter next week, handsomely too.

The one thing they had, which several Celts lacked, was enthusiasm.

It’s funny how after just 90 minutes some, even all, of our players are junk in posters eyes.

    Catch a grip.

The lack of preparedness, in fitness and squad, is a valid criticism.

  20. JJP-ON

We had a decent first half apart from switching off at the goal, it was obvious put under pressure their defence would be shaky so I am baffled at why we didn’t introduce Amido or Anthony before the last ten minutes when it was obvious our second half game plan was deteriorating, I guess Anthony wasn’t fully fit and as such shouldn’t be a waste of a bench space, Sammi it was obvious was having one of those nights where nothing stuck to him and to leave him on the whole game again was baffling.

Scott Brown in centre midfield has never worked for us and having wee James as an automatic choice is also baffling for me, every time we start with James and Kris away you see Scott and Joe trying to cover the whole field, we should have dominated the midfield tonight as that team played with five at the back…

I don’t think the tie is over but we have given ourselves much more work than I think we would have expected, it’s in the balance I think we go through but a lot will depend on our desire to go through next week and not just from the players. Our over cautious approach has to be looked at and soon!

    Hx2

  21. Adopt the Celtic Approach (if they score, we’ll score more) and, obviously, we’ll hammer them next week. No, hey are not “well-organised” – we allowed them too much space and time. They struggled but got lucky and good luck to them.

It was obvious after 20 mins that our approach was never going to work but we stuck with it. On and on and on when we had time to shift the emphasis.

We now have no option but to attack. But, hey, that’s what we are good at.

Put your shirt on a 4 or 5 goal margin in our favour next week provided we do what we do best – ATTACK AT SPEED.

We didn’t need better players to win tonight – we needed a confident, positive belief in our strengths instead of giving a 3rd rate team that confidence by failing to get at them.

Enough from me – Jock’s teams would have have easily taken 3 or 4 off that mob.

  22. Trying to stay positive after that spineless, toothless performance against a one-dimensional side who would – imo – struggle to finish in the top half of the SPFL.

A Celtic side who played 93 minutes without a recognised out-and-out striker.

    However.

In eight days time they have to come to Celtic Park for the return leg. I am quite sure that they will never have experienced an atmosphere like it in their lives.

Will we have an out-and-out striker by then I ask myself?

I await that outcome with baited breath!

They can’t make a signing the deadline for the round was Monday evening

  24. Really upset at that shambolic performance . If money is the God of the board , well then your incompetence and penny pinching ways looks like costing £20m

How is it possible that we have 1 CH playing his first competitive game and the other his second !

How can the manager persevere with Forrest?

Why do we not have a striker on the park ?

Amateurish in the extreme and we are all being taken for mugs by those who control the purse strings.

It has been our whole history when we have sold our best and replaced them with inadequates, I don’t know why I’m surprised.

That team was crap as. Well

  25. How long has this been coming ? We sold our 3 best players and didn’t replace them, so we were always going to be considerably weaker than last year ! The reality is we’re NOT a Champions league quality team this year, but we’ve got money in the bank and that will keep the board, PL and his puppet NFL happy as well as the financial experts on this site, we’re left with a poor team and if we end up in the Europa league I won’t be going, not because I don’t love my club but as a protest at the total mis-management of the club, you’d have thought they’d have learned from not signing Steven Fletcher?

  26. Professor Green

Well in that case we have to go with what we have – Balde, Stokes, Watt.

Even after that performance I am convinced(?!) we will score enough to see us through to the group stages.

The problem then arises – if we DO get to the group stages – is how do we compete there?!

    Reinforcements urgently required!

    Imo of course.

    HH!!

  27. Think Lenny needs to start trustin likes of Balde and stokes.

2.5 million quid on Balde and not forgetting bangura . 5. Million quid dies kook that he doesn’t fancy them.

Balde would gave been a better bet than forest or samras up top tonight. Rogic and birreigter if fit need to start along with Balde next week. Matthews as well. Why not lustig at centre?

  28. Honest to God the team we played against was shocking, real real rubbish.

What does that say about us ?

We are kidding ourselves if we think we are good.

    Imposters except Commons.

We should truly hang our heads in shame.

  29. Don’t know why we want new players as our manager will stick to the tried or should I day tired and tested.

    Favourites everywhere.

Charlie – what is he an NFL kicker ?

    Forrest – Ghost.

Izzy – not played for 2 years.

Ledley – just does not do it on a consistent basis.

Sammi at Centre forward – nah.

Kris C – wasted without a striker making runs.

Then playing 2 CH’s together for the first time in an away champions league game is just managerial suicide. Please don’t slag those guys as CH partnerships are based on understanding – totally unfair to criticise.

We are slow, lack energy, lack movement.

We have signed Rogic, Balde etc and they may as well leave now as Charlie and the Boys will always get a game. Same applies to our under 19s – you will never get a chance under this regime so forget it – go join Dundee United.

The bottom line is that Neil’s tactics are awful and he does not know how to change it.

I can’t see us having 3 goals in our team.

Even if we signed Van Persie tomorrow Lenny would start with him on the bench, so we need to face reality – it’s the same team next week and there is not 3 goals in that team.

    Sad night

It’s quite simple, we ain’t good enough and quite frankly have disgraced the hoops.

And I mean disgraced that jersey worn with distinction by so many.

Even taking into account the skin flint attitude of the board, because it has always been so we should have destroyed that mob.

A truly shocking score ranking with Bratislava & Insbruuk and neuchtel and other diddy wee teams that have humiliated us .

    Totally and utterly disgusted !

  31. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma on

    Good Evening.

If I were to use one word to describe that result tonight it would be…….. avoidable.

I listened to the first few minutes in the car and when we nearly scored from an early corner I thought ” Go on, Celtic– kill the game (at least) with an early goal.

However, when I came in and watched the live coverage on TV, I have to say that you felt this team could just get a “lucky” goal with those long throws– not that their goal in the first half was lucky, it was something worked from the training ground and we looked helpless to prevent it!!

    Yet preventable it was.

Now, quite why we try an absolutely brand new defensive pairing in the first leg of a £20 million tie I have no idea. Perhaps Ambrose was injured….. if so then fair enough.

While Efe has his moments, he is the most experienced centre back we have at this level……. and at this level experience counts unless you really have a superb young player on your hands. Efe has experience of the style of football played by Shakthar and familiar with that type of surface and that type of bounce.

While I like the look of big Virgil and Stephen, such a new pairing was always going to produce a nervousness— and a nervousness that will be felt by the goalkeeper all the way through to whoever is up front.

I think that may well have been avoidable.

However, what is abundantly clear to me (at least) is that when you play a physical, organised side, you definitely need a midfield player with guile AND a striker (or two) who is going to run the defence ragged in terms of running and who can be the foil for the midfielder with guile to play with and too.

In Europe, both Hooper and Samaras were a threat last term even with a lone striker formation. If we are solely reliant on Sammy up front then we are less of a threat because the defence only worry about the big man and have no need to worry about the guile of another proven European scorer.

Football, in many respects, is a mental game– a game of the mind. You have to make the back four think, make them worry about the guy they are facing, make them wary of the threat coming from a number of areas.

Today, we had a threat in Commons early on, but beyond that we did not seem to trouble a well organised defence in the second half bar James Forrest’s header– and bar the header James offered little.

Whilst we may well be capable of dragging this tie out of the fire at Celtic Park with an early goal, the fact is that this side will play exactly the same way in Glasgow, with loads of players behind the ball with the intention of relying on breakaways and opportunistic chances from that long throw tactic.

Regrettably, our side now suffer from the lack of a talismanic striker ( Georgios may well be talismanic, but is not best suited as the loan striker to get you goals ) and the bite and guile of a dynamic midfielder who can unlock a packed defence.

There were some defending failures today — especially from Midfield as both Ledley and Brown were at fault for their positioning re the goals– as was Samaras for the first.

In the end I have some considerable sympathy with the argument of those who would criticise the club for sending out a side that “Might” get you through to the group stages, as opposed to a side which gave Neil Lennon ” The Best Possible” chance of getting through.

There is no guarantee in football, I will always accept that, but the result was avoidable.

We can go through here, but if we don’t, to a certain extent we will have beaten ourselves!
