Well one thing I did forget was additional outgoings involved in being in the champions league (or any Euro competition). There’s always a degree of speculation around transfer fees too.

However the overall point remains – if you’re taking in close to £35M in transfer fees and additional winnings with around £11M outgoing in transfers then you would hope that there would be closer to £25M in the pot than £15M.

For me it’s leading to some uncomfortable questions about the size of the stadium, and whether from an income side of things we would be better off with the imposters playing in the top league.

My ‘bleak times’ comment last night was more in relation to that than anything. In terms of actually going to the games it’s actually really enjoyable at the moment. I suspect in part that’s due to having two wee boys in tow that care not a jot for the whys and wherefores of the club and how it’s run, they just want to see Celtic play football. One of them doesn’t seem to care if we win, lose or draw either.

That is a nifty site, Jobo but we had better get cracking if we want o buy from or sell to anyone in Switzerland!

Your two wee boys obviously get a lot more pleasure from watching Celtic than some on here do!

As regards `from an income side of things we would be better off with the imposters playing in the top league.`

From an income point of view, you are correct; from another perspective, we would be worse off. At the moment, like yourself, I enjoy watching Celtic. If the imposters playing in the top league changed that adversely, I would maybe need a pep talk from your boys to renew!

  7. Morning all

Any chagrin I may feel at being at work on (a foreign nation’s!) bank holiday is smoothed out by the fact that it could be worse – I could be playing golf!!!!

Despite being an unashamedly happy happy clapper I’ll freely admit I’ve been far from that since Tuesday.

But I would say that the ‘sack the board’ and ‘new defence bombscare’ proponents are missing some important points.

    a) the team that took the field against Malmö for both games had enough quality and chances to beat them. (Or lose to them in the crucial second leg).

    b) the goals we lost were mainly down to errors by several of our best and/or more experienced players.

    c) we played with a lack of poise and purpose throughout on Tuesday. With half and hour to go we needed 2 goals or we were out. Even if we scored a 3rd, we still needed 2. No discernible increase in tempo and we were still tippy tapping the ball around the back 4 in the 92nd minute!

    d) I like Ronnie a lot. I want him to succeed. I think he still can. His approach of youth and fitness is the only solution I can see for us in the Scottish league. But he needs at least a Plan B – both within games and from tie 1 to tie 2.

So. Question. How much of the above was PL’s fault?

Lack of a Rosenberg striker? PL’s fault? Ultimately yes. Him and john Parks.

But look at the full list of calamities and admit that for the Malmö ties there’s all too much accountability to be shared among a whole host of Celtic employees.

As for the wider discussion of the Club’s present state and future direction, well that is indeed a wider discussion where questions can be asked of our owner and his directions given to our CEO.

But it was interesting to note how Tuesday’s post mortems often focussed on established scapegoats and theories rather than a series of human errors in 190 mins of football.

  8. Blackett, signed

    Christie, fee agreed

Suminovic, haggling over sell on clause

    Fletcher, possible loan deal

Question, why wait until we’re out of the CL before starting to do serious transfer business?

  9. expat_celt on 31st August 2015 9:23 am

I wouldn’t think so, but I suspect the signings of Allan and Christie are preparations for Johansen and Bitton being gone before the start of next season.

    ICT Statement : Ryan Christie

    31 August 2015

As a result of a further approach from Celtic FC, and following discussions with the management team and the player, the board of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC can confirm that Ryan Christie has been given leave to travel to Glasgow to discuss personal terms.

  12. Christie showed more poise & football intelligence in half a match against us than Joe Hanson has shown all season.

    Sorry to say it.

And that’s from someone who recognises johanson’s attributes and appreciates them.

We’d struggle to sell him just now as no-one (least of all him!) knows what position he’s playing. Joking. Sort of. :-(

If Biton dies go next season, it will only happen if he pulls Virgil/wanyama and declines a new contract and is prepared to let his contract wind down.

If that happens, then he SHOULD be sold.

Johansson? Something has happened to that guy. No idea what. Last year, he was the complete professional.

This season we have gad his penalty kick none sense, followed by the 2 infantile behavior in the lead up to Malmo’s 2nd goal at Celtic Park.

And his game has gone to the dogs.

    Just my 2 cents…,

Not looking to defend the transfer policy but looking at the names..

    Blackett – Wouldn’t have played.

Christie – Wouldn’t have played as recognised by the likely loan back to ICT

Simunovic – A replacement for Van Dijk who was staying until end of qualifiers regardless, although you could argue that he could have been signed to play alongside him instead of Boyata.

Fletcher – I think we may have had better targets dependant on CL qualification. No qualification meant lowering sights hence Fletcher.

I think we at Celtic tend to build players up into something they’re not, Bitton is a decent midfielder with some really classy touches but I don’t see him making a EPL move right now, several weaknesses in his game that are shown up at a higher level, caught in possession(lack of spatial awareness) giving the ball away right in front of the defence!

I think he would need to run games in Europe against decent opposition for me to see him getting a big move.
