Once Partick Thistle equalised, it was clear Celtic had plenty of spare gears to move through. The game went to plan for the champions, even down to the manner in which the Thistle goal was lost. Both central defenders left themselves open to criticism, highlighting the glaring deficiency in the team right now. Whether the Belgian will play little or any part in the solution remains to be seen.
In five weeks, we face St Johnstone in the League Cup quarter final. Cup games away from home are never the easiest, but by then we will have had a chance to flex our muscles in the title race, wetting the appetite for a challenge in the cups.
Artificial pitches are disliked by footballers for various reasons, so I have sympathy for the Newco manager, who yesterday called for them to be kept from top flight games, as they are in England and formerly were in Scotland. They are cheap to maintain and provide an income for clubs, who hire them out, but the technology is still not up to the job.
How long before Motherwell, St Mirren, St Johnstone and others make the move?
What was it got Kenny Millar sacked by Livingston after two league games? Results, tactical competency? Or, judging by his mannerisms at Celtic Park two weeks ago, maybe a publicly overbearing attitude towards his players.

Hoopy birthday Leigh Griffiths HH
GERRYFAETHEBRIG on 20TH AUGUST 2018 7:59 PM
Many punters post (& say) in Brendan we trust, so if Brendan plays big Dedryck then am sure every fan/supporter will want Dedryck to do well….
@@@@@
100% right Gerry..
In Brendan we trust…
The defence I’m not so sure about ?
The MSM saying Griffiths wont start on thursday now unless he is injured this is yet again a slap in the face to the player from Brendan Rodgers. I just dont understand it seems if your face doesnt fit like Gamboa you will be played very infrequently. I know we have Dembele but when did Dembele last score 40 goals in a season ? H.H.
JFH
we will probably play 1 up front – has to be Moussa for me
But on your general point – managers do have favourites
The Pope isn’t infallible, except on very limited issues …
So, unless Brendan was born in a manger about 2000 years ago, he makes mistakes like everyone else …
So, if we can question the Pope, I don’t know why people shouldnt question PL or BR .. or me … or anyone else …
There certain subjects that require a more specialized expertise … brain surgery for example … but football formations sure as hell isnt rocket science
Here is the scene.
BR: DB we need you to improve chances of getting through EL qualifying . We have a replacement lined up so if no bid comes in by 31st, we will take one in Jan. 4 months away.
You owe us and this is a chance to repay that debt by having a stormer, which in turn improves your future options and bargaining position.
DB: I’m in boss.
BR: Do you know the football act of contrition?
DB: No boss.
BR: No problem here is one we prepared earlier.
(This is all made up but if new guy is on the way it’s how I’d play it.)
50 shades 8.16pm
Apart from 2000-2005 the rest of my Celtic experience I have never trusted any Celtic defence :-)

I’ve looked in Apple store and there is a Brain Surgery app and a Rocket science app but no Football formations app – surely that tells us something :)
GENE For me Griffiths never lets you down he gives 100% where im not so sure about Dembele for me he is a moody player and he blows hot and cold depending on his mood. However,I respect your opinion but feel Griffiths will be needed when Dembele moves on that is if Griffiths has not moved on first.H.H.
Auldheid
‘to err is human to forgive devine’
JFH – If I were a defender I know who i’d rather play against.
Gene
?
Auldheid- bit of a catch 22, we need him on Thursday, if we don’t play him when he os our player, value drops
Now, in addition to blaming PL and DD for our lack of signings, am I supposed to blame Steve Jobs? ?
GENE. I will agree with you and accept your point of view when Dembele has scored 40 goals in a season until then the jury is out. H.H.
MIT
what is about you and dead people
Real, that’s “Real” resolute Ulster men, put their jackets on and walk away, when they see interfering puppet strings on the horizon.
Blessed are the cojones of, Martin O’Neill and Neil Lennon, who despite their faults, could never be described as, PLC puppets.
Looks like the ball is in Brendan’s court.
Hmmmmmm.
Laters.
JFH
differing opinions is the lifeblood of the blog
GENE.Fella I agree with you for me it is what football is all about.H.H.
Dembele over Griffiths every day of the week
Me? You guys live in a city where half of the population died in 2012, but are still walking around …
MIT
Biddulph – we just look half dead
listen bhoys could I put a non football post on here please, scroll past if not interested took annettes westie Jorge to see her this afternoon in the hospice, or should I say our westie Jorge, pets are allowed in to see termanily ill patients, anyhow walking through the wards suddenly young boy completely covered with tubes and monitors spots Jorge, and I will take this sight to my grave, Jorge who is three quarters blind goes directly over to him as if he had known him all his life, I just watched in awe of the 2 of them cuddling up to each other ,the nurse said to me that the boys name was Kieran and he was in the final stages of cancer, but she had not seen his eyes sparkle like that ever just thought id share it with you.hh.
What is the Stars. A question for you has Dembele ever scored 40 goals in professional football for any club ? The Griff has for Glasgow Celtic I rest my case.H.H.
that awkward moment when WITS agrees with you :))
Dembele v Griffiths:
Leigh might be a more natural goal scorer, but Moussa plays in a way that brings others into the game.
Basically, when Moussa plays well, the team plays well. That is not necessarily the case with Leigh.,
Odsonne may in time trump both.
We’re lucky to have all three.,
BP nice post
Reminds me … some of you on here had the pleasure of meeting my friends Dan from Milan, and his lovely partner, Waheeda …. and some of you were very kind to them ….they still speak often and fondly of the Scottish friends
Just letting you know that Waheeda was recently diagnosed with cancer … fortunately, it looks like it was caught early… but, for those of you so inclined, maybe you could keep her in mind when you are chatting with the Big Yin
JFH
No…not yet
But he may yet do so.

DB,s Agent pipes up…but but …Brendan rings a wee bell on his desk and John Clark steps out of the next room and delivers an almighty kick to the startled agents Heemaws…then after a wee nod to Brendan leaves the room .

Mike in Toronto. Whaheeda will be in my prayers. H.H.
Dembele will get an hour, you seen the pace and power when he got a game on Saturday, we miss that when he is out.

It is well known that dogs can be therapeutic. Some breeds more so than others
Lovely post btw. Best wishes and good luck to all concerned.
HH and Woof woof.

Agreed … when he is on song, Dembele adds dynamism to our game …pulls the whole team forward
A fit match ready Moussa is awsome .
An unfit Moussa is no use to us.
The Griffalo will always be second choice to a fit Moussa. Perhaps unfairly, but factual.
Statingtheobviouscsc
GP- when the 3 are fit, we need to play 2 strikers , in domestic games anyway IMO
Have said my peice in the past regarding our strikers. Moussa is the man, tactically, physically, pace, concentration, mentality. Overall a completely different level above Leigh Griffiths. Edouard is very much of the same mould as Moussa, and as such is comfortably our second striker.

If all three are fit (at the same time), I’d love to see all three play from the start. :-)
