Sponsorship income is harder and harder to find so securing an improved shirt deal, while others flap to secure lesser deals, is a genuine result for the Celtic commercial team. Irish cider maker, Magners, will have their name of the Celtic shirt for three years from this summer.
This will be the first time Celtic does not share the name on their shirts with another Scottish club since the 1990s, apart from a brief period during 2012, in the weeks between Rangers being assigned to liquidation and a successor coming into existence.
The significant amount of coverage outside Scotland as a result of this season’s Champions League qualification will no doubt have contributed to Magners’ decision, as will the reputation of Celtic fans to toast their Irish heritage in good nature.
Let’s hope club, fans and sponsor can work to make this a long and successful partnership.

I’m sure someone mentioned earlier that the previous joint deal was worth £1.5M per annum to both clubs and PL has just stated that the deal is better than that.
Anyone confirm?

Come of it, bhoy …… If we don’t gain sponsorship, we have less to spend on players …..and, looking on the VERY bright side, it re-inforces the Board view that we can stand alone……

Kojo – as I previously asked CabbageandBacon, how do you know who will be sponsoring Sevco in 2013-2014? You can’t say we will still be sponsored by the same company when there has been no sposorship announcement from them. If it turns out to be C&C then maybe you can grumble – until then .
*******************************************************
Sorry mate i didn’t see your question.
I don’t know if they’ll be sponsoring sevco next season, which by admission makes my little rant a little premature. But surely you can see if they do sponsor that lot all we have done is switch brands to keep the hoardes at bay.
Previous shared sponsors was down to circumstances but we have our own brand, story and traditions. Peter Lawwell.

Peter Lawwell: This is a multi million pound deal. It’s confidential but it is an *increase* to what we had before. (LB)

Dirtymac 14:35 I would give them the option to reform or die, we can’t have clubs surviving simply due to handouts from clubs who themselves have struggled to turn things around. At best I think we can support 20-22 true professional clubs.
I’d give them 2 years to adjust thereafter all such clubs would be regionalised into junior type set-ups, which most already are in truth (Some will no doubt fold/amalgamate).
A more streamlined league would need less funds to operate, perhaps a pyramid system could include a new junior super league / playoff which would be an incentive for all clubs lower down the system.
By reducing the shares of TV revenue / various grants we will increase the amounts available to those who are truly trying to improve in terms of facilities / standards.
+++++
There are already only around 20-22 ‘true professional clubs’, or rather, 20 or so that have full-time playing staff.
At worst, these clubs ‘cost’ each of the big sides around £50-60k a year. In fact, each of the 30 SFL ‘cost’ the SPL pretty much that sum, with large chunks taken by those in the 1st anyway, i.e. those who are included in your 20-22 anyway.
Small clubs like Forfar don’t cost the SPL very much at all. Probably around £30-40k per year. On the flip side of this is that small clubs like Forfar put around £300k per year ‘into’ football.
Your last sentence is a bit dodgy – a lot of SFL clubs spend a fair amount of resources on improving their lot with little tangible return. A Scotland youth cap who goes on to be play in the EPL and be capped by the full team, for example, could be had from the lower leagues for around £50-100k.
Currently, clubs like Stenhousemuir for example, have two streams of youth teams, with on of them starting from u7’s. Elgin City provide coaches for local schools as a precursor to their own youth system.
Many SFL clubs, in proportion to size, have youth development programmes far in excess of any in the SPL, including our own rather extensive one.
With regards facilities, many of the smaller SFL clubs have spent, again proportionately, considerable amounts of money on ground improvements over the last ten to twenty years, with some spending far in excess of their annual turnover on various facility improvements.
Leave the small clubs alone, they play very important parts in their communities and are worth every penny of the 100 quid or so a day it costs to subsidise them.
Or we could just keep all the money at the top end and give it to the Don Goodmans, Paul Bernards, Pasquale Brunos etc of the SPL.
Is this the sign of things to come? Rangers make a crazy press release via their new minister of propaganda and it gets laughed at by anyone with an ounce of sense. Followed the very next day by a press conference and great news from the Scottish champions. I hope so!

When apples still grow in November
No doubt club management have been working on this for a while and it might explain why Tennents (C&C) were happy to go with low key branding on the 125 shirt?

We all have a responsibility, not just Celtic, every club and the nation has to look at the longer term benefits for Scottish football. Peter Lawwell.
This sponsorship deal is great news. Well done to all involved.

The smart money is on the huns being sponsored by Klargester. A good fit in my opinion.

Fairy liquid would work!
Ben and Jerry’s ice cream (Unilever), Innocent Smoothies (Coca Cola), Green and Black’s chocolate (Cadbury/Kraft) and Copella apple juice (Tropicana/Pepsi) are among the many formerly independent brands now owned by large corporations.

I see your point but even a brand switch to seperate us in any way shape or form, is good enough for this hoard member
spiced apple and rhubard
So who’s going to be first to put two and two together and make Robbie Keane?
Chuckles is currently on SevcoTV going on about league reconstruction and rubbishing Irish cider brands, it will cost you 99 hundredths of one of your British pounds to share the pleasure.
Not for me, ta.

Are Sevco sponsored by Tennents or did that side of the deal die with the old club?
I’m sure the many, many thousands of Celtic fans with no “Irish heritage”, like myself, will also welcome and celebrate the news Paul.
