Christie transfer breaking all Celtic moulds

538

Celtic’s £500k signing on Inverness attacking midfield player, Ryan Christie (20) is unlike any I have known. The player will remain on loan at Inverness for the rest of the season, a nod to the fact that the Highlanders have been good for his development and first team opportunities would be more limited at Celtic.

He’s a talented player who fits the criteria and we have the money available to bring him in. There’s something of a crop around the same age being acquired. More on this at a later date.

Welcome to Celtic, Ryan.

  1. What the boo bhoys forget is VVD WANTED to leave ….. simple as that .

We’ve got a bloody massive fee for someone entering latter stages of Thier contract … next summer you’d have been lucky to get £3-4 m …

Im happy with our recruitment in the summer ….

And if anyone GENUINELY believes that we could sign a Keane type with no sevco when he could get £40k pw in the English championship is simply delusional .

Nobody and I mean NOBODY of proven quality would ply Thier trade here on anything less than £50k pw … it would be career suicide .

Wake up and smell the coffee …. our league RUBBISH

    Big Cup Winners.

We did sign a centre forward. He has had limited game time because of a ban from last season. I’d implore you to give the poor guy a chance before writing him off completely.

Surely we Celtic fans treat our players better than that..?

    ===

Perhaps the negativity surrounding Cifti is due to the fact we have seen him play for DU and thought he wasn’t very good there. Couple this with his ineffectual appearances for Celtic I would say we have a good reason to be somewhat sceptical that he has the ‘right stuff’ to be a Celtic striker. Still hope to eat humble pie over this.

“What is plain is that something has to change because this policy of having one or two big players who you punt for circa £11m every couple of years is a policy which can only logically result in you standing still in real football terms.”

I agree with your assertion that European football is very important for Celtic and that CL participation is better than Europa League for recruitment.

But you simplify and distort the strategy with the bold statement that the policy is to sell a big player every year or two.

The strategy is not to sell for selling’s sake.

But, since selling is an inevitable part of the post-Bosman era game, you must sell well. Otherwise players play the game and walk away on frees. You can only sell big if you sell your better players. Southampton are not going to be enquiring about Efe or Boerigter or Stokes anytime soon. SO your players get sold because a) they would, otherwise walk away on a Bosman (Ajax have been stung many times by this) and b) they might not try a leg in the last year that you extend their contract against their wishes (Hooper etc;).

So, knowing that you are going to be predated upon by cash-rich clubs for your best players and knowing that you have to recruit wisely, more wisely than we have these past two years, the strategy does not alter.

We are just left with asking for it to be done better- to make fewer mistakes and have more successes. That is the pious aspiration of all of us. However, none of us has much of a clue as to how to transform that aspiration into achievement.

Italia bhoy Agreed let’s give ciftci a chance. …A fair trial before we hang him. ..so to speak

  5. New CF — Not an issue for me as I never thought it would happen.

Interested to see how much we paid for our new CB — how will it be spun to a very disgruntled support?

However the big thing for me is the players that never left.

Deadwood 3 was a must for me and little if anything happened.

CM / AS / KC — Anything real to offer?

I can’t see them getting much game time so I fear the devil will make work for idle hands.

  6. Fledge 1888…. all of which will stroll the SPL

As I said …. name one quality proven player who’d commit career suicide and ply Thier trade in the SP HELL on less than £28k pw

Playing Ross county. .. Partick. … kilmarnock. .. inverness. … Dundee. … in rubbish surroundings ….

    Wake up……

Bet you said the same about

    Wanyama

    Foster

    Ledley

    Hooper

    And VVD

You put them on a 4 year deal.

You mange the assets well and they develop.

Next step is you offer them a new contract and better money after 2 years.

They say yes = great, rinse and repeat.

They say no = put them up for sale.

That way you make the CL group stages with ease.

You can afford better wages and you provide a spotlight to the ambitious players you have.

Currently we are being run as a Yopper scheme for the EPL.

Well what a dismal place this has become.

Just waiting for the 1st post demanding a sack the board demonstration at the gates of Celtic park.

Been an avid supporter of celtic all my days and will still be one in the morning.

The club has signed 8 players in this transfer window. We have three great young kids out on loan for experience in fisher o’connell

  9. And Henderson. They will return ready for the 1st team squad.

We have not seen our new bhoys in any great number of games and i trust the manager to bring it all together.

We will coast the league this year in spite of all the msm Aberdeen hype.

    Get a grip guys

  10. Shocking..had a chance to qualify for champions league and never invested..no guarantee it would pay off but you still have the players there to win the league and europa games.. This year is beyond a joke… Sell our best player and bring in who knows what… Even if we were giving our young players a chance then we could accept that but we have let them all go out ion loan..and bring in othe youngsters..Would Henderson O’connel Fischer be worse than the ones we brought in? We will never know..

  11. Oh Dearie me.

So I take it Pedro was telling porkies when he said we would come out of the transfer window stronger than we went into it.

    Who would have thunk it.

  13. Wits/italiabhoy…

Ciftci needs a run of games to see what he has to offer, I would like to think that RD will refrain from being so dogmatic with his team structure and try two up front, if only in the spfl to give him a plan b.

I know some on here say it’s not the way forward and top teams play with one up front.

Maybe we need to be realistic and play to our strengths, rather than trying to emulate the billionaire clubs.

The transfer windows in the past few years should have atleast taught us that!

  14. what happens if Brown and griffith get injured..? No team and no goal scorer.. Why let Scepovic go? Are we not meant to be trying to win games and improve? Aberdeen will be tough to beat..tthay have a good team..haven’t lost anyone..strengthened while we have lost our 2 defenders… lost 2 centre forwards (JG and SS) and brought in Cifti…

We should win the league again this year of course.

But rightly or wrongly celtic will be judged/ are being judged on what they achieve in Europe .We should have made the champions league this year, we were very very close .It would have been great on so many levels, even were we to lose all six games,

So naturally people are disappointed about that. However we move on to the next adventure.

  16. This will surprise some, given my mineshafter status (and general curmudgeonliness) but, assuming the Croat signs, I dont think this window has been too bad. Some good young players in. I would have liked to have seen a bigger target man striker in, but I still think Ciftci is a good player and could be a great player for us, if we get the team passing the ball and moving better.

    This probably means Stokes will need to be considered, but, as long as he plays as a striker, he will score goals for us. the issue is getting the midfield to create chances so that he can stay up front, and take the chances;

I do think we need some better coaching in that regard, but I think RD has been given a decent young squad (not saying they will win the CL), and it is up to him to get them playing good football now.

    Are u having a laff

    35 millions to the good

    Yet we sign average players

    Need marquee signings big time

    We are mediocrity

    Check the blog the nite

    No much activity

    We all lost faith

  18. And we really need to pray that the Griff doesn’t get injured, and Ronny can mould our rookie defence quick time, the sheepies game is a couple of days after the players are back from inter duty, Ajax next, get praying bhoys, seriously needed.

  19. and where are our young forwards? when was the last forward to come through the ranks? Tony Watt(from Airdrie) don’t the development team developed centre forwards.. fed up with non-scoring forwards and atttacking midfileders..who think 5 goals a season is good.. We have also lost 15 goals with VVD and JD going

  20. What is the Stars on

I’m a 2 up front man myself. These are fads that coaches copy from each other. Big man/ little man up front, one man up front, big strong athletic players, little tricky Barcelona style players, no centre forward like Spain,

    Wingers, over lapping full backs.

Systems come and go. If it works stick with it .If it doesn’t work then change it, I prefer free spirits who use imagination rather than dour dogmatics any day

  21. Booooo hooooooo what if Griffiths gets injured …. ?????

What about the kids banging them in the u21s

  22. Heads should roll in the ‘scouting’ department.. 3 years of dross centre forwards..costing a fortune all wasted money (apart from Griff and you didn’t need a team of scouts to watch sportscene)
