Ciftci, the bite and having his card marked

649

Starting with a blank sheet of paper and a player found guilty of biting an opponent, I’d struggle to justify a punishment less than 6 games.  It’s by no means the worst thing that happens on a football field, or the most dangerous, but it’s primitive, unhygienic and poses health risks.

Few of us have prior knowledge of Nadir Ciftci, so there’s little point in looking online for character references.  The player was charged with biting an opponent.  He denied the allegation but was found guilty by an SFA disciplinary panel yesterday.  I’ve seen photos of Jim McAlister’s bite-sized leg wound and have no interest in hearing mitigating comment about what happened during the Dundee derby.

Despite this, Nadir is having a good month.  He signed for Celtic, made his debut and potentially has five Champions League qualifiers to play between now and his domestic suspension concluding at the end of August (yes, six league games in August).  If he’s a clever guy, he’ll force his way into the manager’s plans for those five games and never look back.  If not, he’ll find his card marked, like a Dundonian leg.

The man bowed his head for an anthem. All I was saying regarding any other player whose anthem is not GSTQ is that if they had acted the same I do not see any disrespect.

    2 main points.

Everyone moved except him. If he had moved and everyone else didn’t it would have been seen as a protest action. He bowed his head which is a common sign of showing respect. The whole thing has been blown way out of proportion.

I have no idea why anyone would be offended.

My last words on the subject. We can agree to disagree if need be.

  4. Ludogorets have just been knocked out of the CL Qualifiers.

They were one of the most likely (and strongest) teams we could have gotten in the playoff round (if we get that far). Good result for us!!

    BT,

    Good luck to your nephews……….

Two of my sons were born nine and thirteen weeks prematurely………

corkcelt …. I agree that, based on the last game alone, LG deserves to start tomorrow … but I am thinking it may be better if Ciftci starts …. I think tomorrow is a formality, and we are really thin up front at the moment …. why risk injury to LG if what is likely a meaningless game, and we will need him for the league games while NC is suspended? … plus, we will likely need NC for the european games, and since he wont be getting any domestic game time to keep him sharp, he needs as much time in the euros as possible, for when the games are important….

Thompson Twin does not annoy me, posters who respond to him, regardless of the nature of the response do. He is a genuine troll and gets off on provoking a reaction. He will continue to pollute the blog until he is frozen out. The only way to freeze him out is to totally ignore him.

I realise that when he is finally frozen out, he will come back with a new name & persona but that is the internet. This guy has been on before in a number of different guizes and is likely to keep it going until the entire blog conforms to a policy of “Don’t feed the Trolls”.

    ====

Never liked the term ‘troll’ as it is bandied about far too much on here. However a few posters seem to be deliberately polemical. One particular Australian based poster springs to mind. TT is not quite on the same level as the antipodean Royalist eejit as some of his posts have some thought process involved rather than just habitually posting the same old B/S revisionist dogma.

I’m sure Nadir’s lugs will still be ringing after Ronny and John’s good cop, bad cop routine over his transgression. Something tells me a blast from Ronny Deila would be something to behold.

Won’t be able to watch the gemme in the mornin’, so I’m getting in an early plea for match updates please.

  14. Glad to see people championing the Griff for a start tomorrow.

Ciftci may end up being our number 1 striker but still looks like settling in for me and also short of the required fitness. Give Griffiths at least 60 mins and then let Ciftci on to try and get off the mark when the opposition are tired. Predicting a 4-0 win tomorrow.

Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery was hospitalised this morning with food poisoning.

Poor Franck was was having a bath and starting eating what he thought were coloured sweets from a bowl at the bathside.

In actual fact, he was munching away at little soap “pearls”.

“I thought they were my favorite “Dragibus” sweets – I love the little black and red ones best.” said Franck.

“I only relalised my error when I started making bubbles when I talked…”

Ribery will be unavailble for selection for 2 weeks while he recovers…

  20. I understand mike in toronto’s point re not risking Griff on a bad surface, and getting some mileage out of Ciftci as we will get no domestic mileage until Sept.

On the other hand, whilst we all expect to go through to second round without too much difficulty we still have to turn up and perform. Part of this is putting out our strongest side.

It is a difficult choice and we will just have to wait & see, I’ll not be too bothered if Ciftci starts before Griff but I do believe at this point of time Griff is a more potent player.

You spotted that early. Not on BBC or UEFA sites yet. Interesting result. If we win through tomorrow night, then survive a probable trip to Azerbaijan, we could then possibly have to go to Moldova to qualify. Just shows you how tough it is to reach the Group stage.

I know some reckon we are obsessed with them, I am obsessed with their cheating, and the cheating from thems who govern our game, but the hun-sevco, not at all.

They are a huge source of hilarity, their stupidity is a joy to behold, and the msm are able facilitators, they helped killed the first version, and are carrying on their good work with the bast**d incarnation, and for that I thank them daily.

Thing is, they can’t change, and those who pull their strings know that, they need to be deluded, they need to feel superior, anything that blows that out of the water and they are helpless and finished.

It’s a miracle they can manage to get out of their beds in the morning.

We can all tell tales about the lack of awareness of other folks, especially ones from a different environment.

American society is varied and complex, probably much more so than any other due to the diversity of backgrounds and ethnicities.

I admit geography is not one of the strong points here, but I think I come across more widely travelled people in my locality than anywhere else I’ve lived.

I’m regularly in conversation with strangers, especially retired folks, who have travelled around Europe, Asia and South America. Even in New Jersey they are polite and engaging willing and eager to share their experiences especially of Scotland and the UK.

Its a big risk betting on a pre season friendly.

Players are relatively unfit, managers experiment with formations and trialists, multiple substitutions are made and players are keen to avoid injury and contact.

I think it’s up on the Uefa site now. Whoever we draw it is going to be difficult to qualify. In saying that I looked at the most likely opponents a few weeks ago Zagreb, BATE, Ludogorets, Malmo, Molde, Apoel, Lech, Maribor etc. At that stage the 3 i really didn’t want were Zagreb, Lech and Ludogorets. Ludogorets are gone now and Lech will have to play Basel in the next round.

I know it is, but I just canny help it.

Can’t see a team like Burnley contemplating getting beat by a bunch of lower league rejects and weans, I doubt they would live it down, and even worse, if they did lose, the gushing from the msm would be unbearable, if it could get any worse that at present.

All the better when they go mams up again :-)
