Clear rule required on storms

770

Although I believe it was the rain which caused the cancellation of today’s game it was the storm which caused me most concern. Football should not be played when a storm strong enough to cause structural damage is expected. Any building can be affected by a storm. While there is a tiny chance that any football stadium will be damaged, the consequences of a roof part landing on a packed stand would be severe.

There should be a clear rule on this.

The Foundation Christmas Appeal bucket collection has been postponed for two weeks. This is a critical period for all of the agencies who were due to receive funds from this appeal, I know the Foundation are working with them in the interim period. Today’s attendance would probably have been low due to the conditions, so hopefully the delay will raise more money than we would have raised had today’s game gone ahead.

Ah, you’ve got me there! Being from the Kingdom of Fife, I had it lucky! Never played on an ash pitch!

The thing is, about the unsporting cheats, whether they are in the SFA or referees or whatever organisation, we still have them institu and still make the mistake of appealing to them for justice.

Think about that…we appeal to persecuting cheats for justice….

Ye just got on with it. Good thing was games were on every week. We got on the grass when we were 15 ish. Im sure there is many on here like maself with discoloured skin on their knees. Twas good days tho. No better noise than a mitre mouldmaster sing off yer boot on the gravel.

Got to confess here Lhads. I was a rugby-player (hooker) all the way through my teens. Never played a full-sides football game until my 20th year. Might have been a better player with earlier coaching. As it was, just an animal across the back-line! Great fun though!

He is after the money,of that there is no arguement

  7. I’ll say this. I see my bhoy playing on these 3G/4G pitches and apart from his legs not being cut to shreds I dont see it as much better that the gravel. As soon as it rains the ball is like a bar of soap skidding all over the camp. A nightmare to trap the ball. A leather ball, or whatever man made synthetic they use. On gravel it was a rubber mitre. I dont have the answers but watching weans playing on these surfaces with no give and a ball like an eel doesny seem good to me. Its fine when its dry but we are of course in Glesga.

I suppose some bam will be making money out of it.

I’m sure Andrew Waddell is on the SFA professional game board nowadays.

Isn’t he a Hearts fan? He refereed our game at Love St on the last day in 1986. Hearts were also refereed by a Hearts fan that day, a certain Bill Crombie.

Two Hearts supporting refs in charge of the games that had the decisive influence on whether Hearts would win the league or not. Who would have thought that, would certainly never have happened had it been the Huns who were vying for the title with Hearts.

The SFA were out and out cheats then and they’re still out and out cheats now.

Games aren’t called off and the council make plenty of money from the 4g pitches

Same as schools now,as most of them are no longer owned by council you have to pay through the nose to get the use of them

  11. Hello again all you young rebels.

Lovin the discussion about sliding tackles on grass but black ash was

the norm in ma neck of the woods ( the Plots in K.P. ) got the stitches

    to prove it.

As for worst ref ever, Davidson by a mile in my 60 odd years watching

The synthetic pitches are amazing to play football on – always enjoyed them, even in the rain.

I missed the black ash thankfully. It was the red gravel for me. Fact is, the game needs to be played on grass with Gods good earth underneath

  14. My high school was knocked down and rebuilt a few years ago, and they had the sensible idea to put in loads of all weather 5 a sides and 11 a side pitches. There’s already a pitz and a world of football near by but the council assured everyone that the youth teams could play for free.

Never happened, they charged a fortune so most can’t afford the use the school pitches. they are empty most night now.

    Really?

To be honest my boots are long since hung up, I just see the weans struggle on it when its wet.

  16. The huddle

Thats the story all over the city ma man. Weans climb the fences they get 15 minutes and the coppers arrive.

Agree, here in Oz the pitches are amazing, like bowling greens

and the kids think i’m kidding when i tell them we had to lift

broken bottles, cans, and fill in pot holes with ashes out of the

midjy bins before we could play.

  21. Wonder what that pesky SFA were upto giving George Smith 4 cup finals afte he was spotted serving mass at Bellahouston in 1982 and bloody Celtic what the hell are they doing issuing season tickets to ex referees who more or less attend every game home and away…….shocking so it is

    Herbo

    100%.

The 3g pitches are immaculate surfaces, smooth as a bowling green and anyone can make or take a pass without having to worry about the lumps and bumps you’ll experience on a grass surface.

A sodden grass pitch is worse than any 3 or 4g pitch for slippiness ;-)

I was rubbish, really bad player, but the 3g pitches improved my game.

  23. Oh and lets hark back to the days when you bought a burd a babycham and that was you set up for the night

  24. BCW

I hear ye. But you have had how many years learning to master a baw. Receive a pass, judge the bounce. The weans are getting hit with Nike balls light as a feather skidding like dain wee mansies in the ice. It dents their confidedence. I see it week in week oot. The difference in quality when the pitch is dry and theyre confident to recieve it and control it is chalk and cheese. As I alluded to earlier. Maybe its a different type of ball needed? Wit ye reckon?

  25. Naw Herbo we certainly don’t produce footballers any more but I can’t recall any great bloggers from back in the day
