Clear rule required on storms

770

Although I believe it was the rain which caused the cancellation of today’s game it was the storm which caused me most concern. Football should not be played when a storm strong enough to cause structural damage is expected. Any building can be affected by a storm. While there is a tiny chance that any football stadium will be damaged, the consequences of a roof part landing on a packed stand would be severe.

There should be a clear rule on this.

The Foundation Christmas Appeal bucket collection has been postponed for two weeks. This is a critical period for all of the agencies who were due to receive funds from this appeal, I know the Foundation are working with them in the interim period. Today’s attendance would probably have been low due to the conditions, so hopefully the delay will raise more money than we would have raised had today’s game gone ahead.

  1. Just before I go out, something I must have missed.

Can anyone tell me the punishment The football authorities in Scotland, handed out to Paton of Dundee United for his assault on the Celtic goalkeeper..Sorry if I missed it..I do know that all footballers are liable for their action off the field.ie Griffs conduct in a pub.

  2. Dallas, Dallas,

JPR Gordon compounded his ‘error’ by allowing the dead club to take a goal kick while their penalty box was full of players from both sides. This, as you know, was another honest mistake and lead to them scoring.

When Gordon was later banned by UEFA for taking a ‘gift’ from an Italian team there was barely a mention in the SMSM.

  3. I was given a link to Davie Hay’s article over the weekend in the Daily Ranger. Took me back to Terry Butcher and Roy Aitken in the league cup final in the 80’s. David Syme being the ref. An unbelievable day looking back. I remind you not nly of the penalty but Tony Shepherd and Maurice Johnston. Things never change my friends. Corrupt to the core. The good oul SFA.

Hay, Im sure we’d all agree, not a fenian fundametalist like myself said. “We should resign from scottish football tomorrow” 30 years later he’s standing by it.

    Neganon can explain it perfectly.

  5. Davie Cooper scored from the spot btw.

The most unbelievable revision of a football career the likes have never been seen. Average at best.

That result should really perk Michael up for the court battles ahead

Rubicon, JPR or as my dad called him, RFC Gordon, was done for accepting undeclared gifts the night before he reffed an inter or rubentus European game in Italy. Re that game Ham and egg scored, he nearly missed it. We only had peter Latchford and Frank Munro back. Ham and egg mishit it and caught Frank off balance on our line. If it had been hit cleanly by the greatest ever berr, Frank would have cleared it.

    Let’s get the story straight.

As I understand it, he and his linesmen were invited by one of the Milan teams to pick a gift for themselves from the club shop.

Like greedy weans let loose in a sweet shop, they simply could not stop themselves.

Don’t think big Mike gives a stuff about Newcastle or the Sevs, the Glib guy & his followers (smsm included) are picking a fight they won’t win…..let them rot

I actually like big Mike taking the Sfa on about his £1k fine…..

Rubicon, you are correct about our media downplaying Gordon’s acceptance of hospitality from the host club. I’m not 100% sure about this but there may been some females involved the night before the game also,

Quonno, sorry I never saw your post before I posted. That sounds more plausible.

  13. Craig Thompson

Grew up in Somerled Ave Paisley, just across from the Arkleston roundabout at j27 of the M8. Him and his twin brother used to play football with us Trinity High Bhoys sometimes behind Babcocks beside Moorepark. Always in hun gear. Freemason? You betcha!

What I can’t understand about Craig Thompson, surely he must be conflicted since his company was one of the creditors that lost money, in any other walk of life you would think he would go against the new club but obviously he must be earning enough as a ref to write off the other loss

I played schools fitba, juvenile and amateur (all badly) I can count on one hand the amount of really good players that followed that mob, 2 really good ones out of hundreds, but those two would get in my top twenty……and that’s including the Celtic fans I didn’t like !

As for Craig Thompson, show me a referee and I will show you somebody that can’t play fitba

A pint of milk will eventually develop a culture.

Off to get beat at FIFA and tuck him in then the rebs are on. Naybdies leavin.

  20. Evening all.

    Gerryfaethebrig,

Laughed at your mention of refs and their lack of football skill. My Dad grew up with Tiny Wharton. He was useless but got a game because he was the only one who had a baw. Seemingly, he was so bad, his faither would sometimes call him up the close and let the rest of the boys enjoy themselves with his baw.
