Commons touch and experience needed

1348

I was pleased Ronny Deila fronted up for the press conference yesterday. He didn’t say anything particularly revealing but it was reassuring that the pressure of the last week hasn’t seen him hide from searching questions.

Mention of clear the air talks at Lennoxtown was welcome. It lets us know that the fans are not the only ones who believe the ‘air’ hasn’t been right recently. It will also, hopefully, have given anyone harbouring a grievance to get it out.

One of the manager’s biggest decisions for Sunday is who to trust in midfield. He needs players who will respond to the circumstances, and who can open what will be a packed defence. Guys who have been over the ground before, who know how to dig deep in the face of adversity, are also required. For me that means a start for Kris Commons.

  1. My friends in Celtic,

If our players apply themselves today the result will come. Peter Lawwell will not be playing, although he will get the blame if our players fail to perform but no praise if we execute a competent professional performance.

The time for inquests, change and repercussions will be in the Summer

We all know the financial and footballing limitation in plying our trade in Scotland, so there is no point churning them out once more.

However, indulge me with a very quick hypothesis.

If Catalonia became independent, the population would be about 7.5 m. Roughly about 2m more than Scotland. Would Barcolona playing in a separate Catalonian league suffer declining attendances over a period. Would they be able to attract the cream of players and managerial talent.?

Inevitably they would decline and risk becoming a former giant. To regain former glory they would need a more challenging and fiscal environment.

This mirrors our predicament. If we have wasted years it is because we have stagnated in our domestic environment. Yes our board have faults, our CEO has faults, our manager has faults and our players have faults. But much of our demise has been outwith our control.

    Hail, Hail to all. COYBIG.

  2. For what it’s worth here is what I think the thinking is at Celtic.

The club is stuck where it is for now and needs to bloom where planted.

To bloom a plant needs feeding which includes manure.

The main feed/ income source is gate money whether ST’S or turn ups.

What encourages both at any football game is competition, because competition pushes the club to match competitors and improves performances.

We could out match most competitors by a length but that removes competition, so the trick is to be better but not miles so.

The problem Celtic have is a component in the manure. In short, it stinks and it’s enough to turn some supporters away.

It may be impossible to avoid using that manure but something will have to be done to make what is rotten a bit more acceptable to the nose.

Failing to do that will negate any extra ticket income generated in the coming season and it would be a huge mistake imo not to do something that protects the club from the rot that causes the manure.

Quite what form that will take I’m unsure. It depends a lot on what is going on in courts.

But if that is not resolved by ST renewal, some indication that Celtic recognise there is a stink and will deal with it eventually will be required.

  3. Dear Auldheid as you probably know management is about results that includes the Board & PL regardless of structure

    Doc

I only saw one poor performance.

The Hamilton game was a typical away match on a pitch that would get fitba stopped. We missed a pen and 2 one on ones.

Now, Dundee was a poor performance, a very poor one but it was atypically poor. We have not been that bad since Legia, which was worse again.

    ——————————————————————————-

When you look at the raw stats, we have won 70% of games since 1st Jan.

We’ve had one defeat and two draws. Not terrible at all.

But two draws were in the last two games, that may have lead to a feeling we are performing poorly rather than a fact based opinion.

I’m not usually a doom and gloom individual, but things do not feel right just now.

Anyhoos, ‘Mon the Hoops, a performance today will get us back on track.

  9. Moments away from team news.

Me? I’d like to see one or 2 of our newer faces included in the starting eleven.

  11. Bournesouprecipe,

Just about my favourite song. I remember once, my 3 year old daughter singing that unprompted at the Tyneside No 1, in the Irish Centre. It gradually got noticed and everyone joined in. A brilliant moment!

And then she started singing the wheels on the bus, and everyone continued singing with her! An even more special, spontaneous moment!
