Commons touch and experience needed

1348

I was pleased Ronny Deila fronted up for the press conference yesterday. He didn’t say anything particularly revealing but it was reassuring that the pressure of the last week hasn’t seen him hide from searching questions.

Mention of clear the air talks at Lennoxtown was welcome. It lets us know that the fans are not the only ones who believe the ‘air’ hasn’t been right recently. It will also, hopefully, have given anyone harbouring a grievance to get it out.

One of the manager’s biggest decisions for Sunday is who to trust in midfield. He needs players who will respond to the circumstances, and who can open what will be a packed defence. Guys who have been over the ground before, who know how to dig deep in the face of adversity, are also required. For me that means a start for Kris Commons.

It’s,your release from the real stuff.

    Seriously.

If sevco live they may beat us now and again. I fear for some people’s health and well being when it happens. But in the big scheme it really will not matter one wee bit.

    Hail hail

  2. MacJay,

    PL is also a Director.

Your point is accurate though, he is an Executive Director, as in, an employee.

The others are non-executive Directors, its not their full time job, they will attend Board meetings on a regular basis, well some of them will, some are busy with other directorships, or golf, whatever.

CFC are PL’s full time employment.

The others are free to engage in other employment, Directorships, there will probably be conditions attached, as in no conflict of interests, but they will have other roles that pay.

Gerry, I don’t blame you for not going into that Carson’s, it looks a right dump.

Did Shug say Jamsie Cotter , you rotter after Tony said naw?

The last Celtic Rangers game I was at was in May 2006 and I don’t miss them, the games and the liquidated mob.

    MacJay,

    Thanks.

Small “d” directors ie the gaffers who direct the dogsbody.

However, that being the case, if P.L. does precisely what he is told to do , then the responsibility for the results rests fairly and squarely elsewhere.

    ie with the Directors.

    Would that be correct ?

the rest of the board members are there as figureheads without any genuine clout regardless of which group they’re aligned to.

    —-

    Completely agree

There is a legal responsibility that comes with sitting on the board of a limited or public company, and sadly too many non execs across many companies are happy to just pick up the cheque.

In Celtic PLCs case, it is quite easy to abdicate long term responsibility.

Even if only one person turned up every week, and the club made more cash than in previous fiscal year, and they were reasonably sure this would continue, then it’s job done.

Get the blazer, tick the CV box

Alternatively, some folk may be uncomfortable with that, and if they are on a board may want to have real influence , and IMHO that is why some serious investors in Celtic are not on PLC board.

  9. I live in Western Australia.

One of the major advantages of living so far from Scotland is that I don’t have the daily diatribe of the SMSM, in all it’s forms, ramming WATP down the throats of every person in the country; I don’t often encounter the WATP from the low lifes who supported the deid club and now follow the pheonixed club which operates with the very worst of the mind-set of the old club.

Last night, I was awoken from my sleep at the sound of drunken men singing The Billy Boys as they walked down the street near my home. Sadly, the local hun club is not far from my house.

I gathered from the rendition of the club song that they had beaten Dundee.

What I really struggle to understand though is how supposedly intelligent people (I use the term loosely) can on the one hand chant accusations about paedophiles etc.., effectively accusing all Celtic fans and every Catholic of being paedophiles, and then sing songs glorifying a gang of thugs who brutalised and killed people for no reason other than their beliefs.

    I just don’t get it.

If they were to utter one word against Muslims, gays, blacks etc… they would be shot down in flames. But Catholics, they are fair game.

I still hold out the faint hope that the new mutation (for they are mutants) will go bust and disappear from the face of the earth for once and for all. I won’t miss them for one millisecond if they do.

Thank God I only encounter them very, very occasionally.

I will be writing to the host site and to my local council and political members to raise an official complaint about their activities. Maybe being out of the control of the brotherhood I might get a positive response and action.

    I’ll let you know….

IMO the only reason RD is still there ,is PL’s ego,he doesn’t want to admit his mistake. We need a massive shake up. FWIW i think we will get over the line for the title. In a perverse way ,we are on a dip and should win the league, with the most disillusioned support I can remember,,we need a big hit to get the stadium full again. My left field appointment would be Harry Redknapp, fast attacking football, sells the game well, let’s the flair plays play, and he would enjoy the CL challenge I think.

Tribalism has no logic because it needs no logic.

    Only alcohol.

Good luck with the local authorities.

  14. Mackay, PL won’t be asked to do precisely what he is told in detail, he will have policy and strategy outlined for him.

Detail is what he is paid for, with instruction that some decisions are referred back to the Board, appointment of departmental managers for example.

He will then be given license to implement that strategy and policy.

His performance will be reviewed, probably annually by the collective Board of Directors, they seem to be happy with what he is doing.

The problem, for me, is the policy and strategy, not the implementation.

That and an absolute lack of leadership from the Board.

  15. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Ard Macha , Two of my pals were at the Cliftonville Celtic match in 1984. They expected the RUC to be a shower of dobs but each was taken aback by the nastiness and over the top violence from them. .

The behaviour of the RUC that night showed my pals the brutality of an organisation who only protected who they wanted to.

  16. Clashcitybhoy

Again I agree. I think it’s mutually beneficial though. Those directors are happy with the credibility of being linked with an institution such as Celtic while picking up more than a living wage.

For Celtic there’s the kudos of having industrial big hitters on the board.

  17. Decided for a wee quick log on so only scrolled back 1 page but very glad I did. Can I just say a big thank you to 16 Roads and the link to Don’t Fear The Reaper – a version which I’d never heard before and which was just fantastic.

  18. Bada Agree. I talked to many Celtic fans and supporters today. Disillusioned would be putting it mildly. I talked up the hoops big style but there is a genuine feeling that sevco could present a real challenge to us.

  20. Ok, about tomorrow.

It’s a cup quarter final. And down through the years there’s been some fantastic memories from this particular round. Leaving aside how this has ended up being so, tomorrow is a very, very important game for us. And whilst any sort of win in a cup competition is all that matters, we really could do with a decent performance and the game over by half time. The West of Scotland (and probably beyond) are just dying for us to fail. It must not happen.

Let’s get into the semi and then hopefully avoid Triggers Broom FC, letting Dundee Utd or Inverness knock them out in the semi.

The Yanks supposedly banned the sale of weaponry to the old RUC – Strangely enough though they carried those Ruger mini-14 rifles, the stainless steel versions that the A-Team crew used in the TV series.

Obviously they moved on to the H & K’s.

Nothing but the best for the old RUC.

Then you had 18 and 19 kids sent out with AK-47 assault rifles to engage in combat with the peelers – firing the damn things on fully automatic ffs. Bullets just spraying all over the place, obviously the rifles completely out of control.

Standing on street corners in Ballymurphy/Springhill when ye were a kid – it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Poor Pearse Jordan – God rest his soul, and all of the other victims of the conflict, British soldiers included.

Remember going to school one morning – a soldier had been blown up – dandering past the scene, a mangled lamp post and on the footpath there was just a pile of sawdust there soaked in blood.

    Sad as well.

I have been saying for years now that the policy needs changed, the policy has us where we are.

It’s right, but it;s the rigidity that is the problem imo, if it could be tweaked here and there fine, but it seems not, or the implimentation is not allowing for this, or the man who is deciding is not deviating from the policy, who the feck knows, and there are some who don’t want transparency ffs.

If the truth be known we are getting fecked over by this board, they are extracting the urine at an alarming rate and we are bending over taking it, it’s called expectation management and like the thick suckers we are, we are lapping it up, or many are, those who are questioning it are no Celtic men by all accounts, well blow me over with a sook.
