Corporative governance, dubious integrity, who else could it be?

Charles Green’s media team did well a week ago today.  The Sun had an extremely damaging story on Green but demoted it to page six while dedicating its front page to the man himself, but the consequences of the story remain.

The Daily Record, who today confirms they are being fed stories by Ally McCoist, also reveal that The Rangers International board’s chairman, Malcolm Murray, is one vote short of being able to sack chief exec Green.  Adding, without a hint of irony, “once again, it falls on this newspaper to inform the fans of what is really going on”.

Sacking Green should be fairly straightforward but while this will remove one pantomime act from the stage, the corporate governance issues remain.  While he is in charge at least Green is available to assist the club prepare against charges by Craig Whyte that it inappropriately acquired* assets belonging to his company [“You are Sevco”: (Green)], Sevco 5088 Ltd.

If the chairman fails to sack the chief exec and fellow directors, Brian Stockbridge and Imran Ahmed, at next week’s board meeting, several non-executive directors might find it difficult to continue to pick up wages for providing oversight on behalf of stakeholders to ensure the club’s business was conducted appropriately.

Fortunately for Green he retains the support of his fellow collaborators, although his enablers in the media and support are diminishing by the day (bless all their sterling work).  Green will go when it suits Green to go, most probably when he has found a suitable proxy to ensure his interests on the board are protected (as Whyte believed he had a year ago).  This is likely to happen when he wants season ticket renewal money in.  He’ll drift away, “true Rangers men” will front things for a while, but pantomime isn’t over.  The serious corporate governance questions overhanging the club right now grow by the day.

I wonder if journo who moved to Ibrox as he couldn’t stomach the dubious integrity of the media industry (Green’s former chief-enabler) has the front to come out batting for Green. Or is he too scared?

Speaking about dubious integrity….. has anyone thought of the excuse the SFA will come up with to overlook the link between Whyte and Green on Newco’s associate membership application? I expect they will appoint Mr Bryson to head up an inquiry which will find, “There was a link but as we didn’t know about the link at the time we cannot take any action”.

* Tried really hard here to think of a less pejorative word or phrase than the one which initially sprung to mind.

Can’t help but smile/laugh when I see or hear of our hero’s name. Craigie Whyte. Going by what big Phil says, our hero will have a lot more to say in the future.

Enjoying the ’85, ’88 & ’89 chat. I was too young to attend these – I’ve been to some good & bad finals between ’99 and now but I can’t imagine any were as good as those.

Must admit, I loved the 2004 double winning cup final v Dunfermline – Henrik’s last game and he scored a couple. Think Petrov got the other goal. My dads 50th party that night, what a day.

Story published a few weeks ago

Celtic publicised a figure of 49,428 on the SPL website for their game against Ross County at Parkhead in December – 20,497 more than the real attendance of 28,931.

And when Rangers played Queen’s Park at Ibrox in October, the attendance figure published on the Scottish Footbal League website was 49,463.

But the real number given to police was just 34,481 – a difference of 14,982.

Thanks, I missed that. I figured it wouldn’t make for great reading. I guess it’s the same for most clubs these days though.

RE the 1985 SCF, was it not pay at the gate for that game?

Someone commented earlier about the official attendance for the game of a little over 60000, there was certainly more than that there.

I went to the game with the intention of paying to get in, but when the guy in front of me jumped over the turnstile, I impulsively did the same. The money saved went towards celebrating the win in the Ingram Bar in Queen Street, despite only being 17 at the time.

    Those were the days.

  16. Youths beat Benfica in Moscow

By: Mark Henderson on 12 Apr, 2013 16:58

CELTIC Under-17s made it two wins on the spin in the Spartak Cup after a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Benfica in Moscow.

Defender Fiarce Kelleher fired the young Hoops into a first-half lead before Paul McMullan – who struck a hat-trick in the youths´ 3-2 triumph over Dynamo Kiev on Thursday – added to his glut of goals in the competition by converting from the penalty spot after the break to seal the three points.

Having shared the spoils with the tournament hosts and narrowly losing to Barcelona, the young Celts have now picked up maximum reward from their last two outings in Russia.

And Professional Academy Manager, Tommy McIntyre, told the official website of his satisfaction at the performance and final outcome.

“It was a fully-deserved win against a very good and physical Benfica side,” he said. “We started the game with five U16 players and managed to get a great result. It was a hard-fought but well-earned three points.”

  17. Was Whyte blackmailing Green….or Green blackmailing Whyte…. or Whyte greenmailing Black or….? I’m confused!

    Orangemen the lot of them.

  18. Weird story from the New York Daily News. Wonder what Leslie Neilsen would have said?

“A fisherman in Belarus bleeds to death after beaver attack

A man from the city of Brest was bitten in the thigh, which severed an main artery, during a trip with two friends at Lake Shestakov.

A Belarussian fisherman was savagely bitten by this beaver after going up close to try and take its picture. The beaver severed an artery and the unnamed victim reportedly bled to death.

Sky News reports he spotted the animal at the side of the road and decided to take its photograph.

But the beaver pounced, sinking its pointed fangs into his thigh — which severed a main artery and caused him to bleed to death.

The man’s friends tried to stem the flow of blood but it was no use.

Experts say beaver attacks are rare, and that the ones that do attack humans are usually rabid.”

  19. Is SOT’s fish a red herring?

We are all having a whale of a time with the fish references.

When we flounder a bit we can always discuss the clown fish in Govan.

And of course we can also question the laws in Salmond’s Scotland.

On the SFA (Scottish Fishy Association?) we all know that it stinks from the head down.

I’d better quit before someone brings out the priest.

  20. Sevco/msm/sfa will be desperate to get rid of chuckles pdq as they know season books won’t sell if he’s still the ringmaster.

Looks like a concerted effort by the brothers to force green out and get some good “rainjurs” men in to persuade the hordes to part with their pennies.

Hope chas digs his heels in, as the pressure will increase in the coming days.

No doubt the “good guys” will be revealed shortly, and the whole charade will begin all over again.

The brothers know what’s at stake, so the fighting will be dirtier than Saltcoats beach.

    Go get ’em Charlie.

  22. A wee track from way back for Chuckles.

“Racism in among future kings can only lead to no good”

And watch the share price crumble.

I hope the rumours are true that Celtic are going to take 20% off the ST’s, a wise move if true, and a gesture the Support will really appreciate IMO.

  23. When will someone at Hampden grow a set before what they do have is cut off.

By any civil measure The Rangers should be suspended until an official enquiry is completed or informed that a club licence enabling to play next season will not be granted until questions regarding ownership of assets is satisfied and how the club will manage to reach the end of next season on current business model.

The SFA have become so discredited because of their belief Scottish football cannot “thrive” without The Rangers they cannot contemplate of a model without them.

Well the possibility now exists that legal actions might force the SFA to think the unthinkable and contemplate Scottish football without The Rangers who only survive because the SFA refuse to contemplate a world without them and so cannot act to protect the rest of our game.

There is no place in sport for corruption yet the SFA wish to keep a corrupt entity as the main plank of their football protection and development policy.

It is stupidity verging on insanity because it is repeat behaviour.

  24. Interesting . 20k shares in you know how dumped 14s before market closed As “ordinary trade – delayed publication request” ? Now why would someone do that ?
