Covid, isolating and our European jeopardy

284

A St Mirren player tested positive for Covid and now a Hamilton player is self-isolating after ”coming into close contact with a player from another club who has tested positive”, presumably the unnamed St Mirren player.  Due to their age, footballers are largely immune to the worst dangers of Coronavirus, but you can see where the jeopardy lies for clubs.

If St Mirren are able to stop the disease spreading to the rest of the squad it is a testament to their safety procedures, but it is likely many others at the club were in close proximity to the player during the incubation period.

This is going to be a feature of the season; players will be required to isolate, some fixtures will be postponed.  In Europe, it will be different.  Our Europa League qualifier two weeks from today cannot be postponed by more than a couple of days.  The final qualifier is three weeks today, between now and then every precaution must be taken to limit exposure for the players and backroom staff.

With pubs open for business to show Saturday’s Ross County – Celtic game, the need to run tests to learn what is achievable has never been greater.  Cancelling controlled tests with no more than 300 spectators, where every piece of medical and scientific evidence assures us would all be entirely safe, would be classic bad government.  We need to test practically every aspect of society for its health implications.

I enjoyed reading your defence of pubs ( well, your local anyway) remaining open.

Also, I respect Ernie`s decency in respecting your situation and offering an alternative rather than using a sledgehammer to destroy your point.

As regards the cafe/coffee recommendation, although well intended, for me it is a bit like watching Celtic on TV/VST compared with actual Game Day in the flesh. They both involve the same thing but one is greatly superior to the other.

My very limited visits to my local pub reflect your experience ie The Publican does all she can to ensure the Rules are adhered to . I am not sure that the same could be said of people making house visits.

  2. WITHOUT appearing too Morbid…

I try to make a “Case” for going to the Pub at this horrible time as there’s every chance my health will only get worse anyway…they wont give me a Triple By Pass…as my heart wouldnt take the surgery…or so they have told me.

in all honesty, for ME to go to any Pub at this Covid time…I have much less to lose than most folk who have their health and families etc, to consider.

I am going to watch the Racing again Today…and then hit my local Pub around 4pm…and Drink as many Pints of Beer as possible, as I havent been out since Sunday.

HH to all the good Guys on here….Feck aff to any chumps !

    HH

  3. Meanwhile on another planet Pascal Soriot, a Vet, and Chief Executive of Astra Zeneca, believes that it is possible that a vaccine against SARS- COV -2/COVID 19 will be available by the end of this year. Now, either he has not yet read the reports of the research his own company is involved in, or, and this is the more likely explanation, he is angling for yet another multimillion payout to his Cambridge based Company. Not unlike the virus itself, to be approached with caution.

  4. Gene- probably not available to pubs, but how would they know if a punter bought it,and put it on a pub Smart TV?

What is happening is testing, to say the least.

    I agreed with David.

  6. HOT SMOKED…

    Cheers mate.

As I say, Ive only myself to worry about with Covid or any other health issue, but I DO respect others opinions/choices about Covid and Pubs etc…but as I Posted on the last Thread….my local newsagents had 5 or 6 Staff and Customers in the shop the last time I was in…and NOT ONE was wearing a Mask…I was the ONLY one wearing one, so while some selfish folk behave like that…..I feel SAFER in my local Pub !

    HH Mate.

  7. Bring Paddy home, he knows what’s required here, better than fannying about with a project or a Shved type

And of course a pub wouldn’t think of paying £15 to show it , which I presume would be against the terms of access.

    —————

That is our plan for Saturday. But keep it quiet, you don’t know where Covid Marshals lurk.

This new Normal disney sit well with me.

2 buses and 2 trains were empty.

I have Always used a phrase Shingtong… Reardons was basically empty.

I use the Phrase Shington Merrily on High.

As I said it to Aidan 5 Asians took the table right next to us.

Reardons has a policy now of only 3 at a Betty Grable.

    There were language issues.

I felt for both the Staff trying to get people to adhere to the rules and Also Ma Asian Brothers who just hadn’t realised the new rules.

  10. If Paddy Roberts could be signed for free, I would think it would be worth the while to have him for the rest of the season. He might just regain the confidence that could release his undoubted potential ability.

Was very lucky that my son and I saw The Prodigy live, in one of their last ever concerts before Keith Flint’s tragic death.

The Day is my Enemy tour.

    KF RIP. So sad.

  12. DD social distancing Pool.

We need to jibber jabber soon. Reardons has UK & US tables.

I think we are more suited to US tables.

Celtic legend Paddy Roberts up for sale!

Aye , but if we were to sign him , which Paddy Roberts would we be getting?

  14. Glen D- we will pay 2 salaries for 2 Alfie Doughty types, instead of buying 1 quality player like wee Paddy, more squad fillers….HH

  15. The point about Paddy Roberts is that he was good with us, scored 15 goals in 55 games and had multiple assists. He has never repeated his form with us elsewhere.

Paddy was a young lad from London area whose parents were from Liverpool. His family has Irish heritage. When he arrived at Celtic he found a club which suited him and he quickly made good friends particularly with Kieran Tierney. He was appreciated by the fans and likewise appreciated the support he received. He regretted leaving Celtic.

Would Paddy be able to return to his form of 2018? He is only 23 and maybe will be young enough to repeat the best form of his life.

    Does Lenny fancy him?

How much would City want for him?

What wages would he come for?

    BADA

Paddy knows His career would get back on track at Celtic , maybe better than anywhere else.

  17. Meanwhile in the NFL, Kansas City Chiefs will kick off tonight with 22% of full crowd capacity in the stadium.

I guess everyone will be monitoring their plans for allocating seats, travel and entry protocols, food outlet precautions and individual fan safety compliance.

  18. I always thought Paddy lacked that bit of pace needed to be a top player.

He had 10 times the technique that Agathe had but Didier’s speed was a huge advantage in the MON days.
