The 14th annual CQN Open Charity Golf Day will take place at Aberdour Golf Club on Friday 29 June. I you would like to attend, please contact Taggsybhoy/Blantyrekev at cqnopen2018@outlook.com before Saturday 7 April.

The day will comprise of a round of golf at the beautiful Aberdour GC, followed by food and entertainment at the newly refurbished Woodside Hotel, Aberdour. Cost for the full event is £80 (inc evening meal) and £40 for night time.  Speakers, entertainment and good cause recipients to be confirmed. There are discounted rates for CQN’ers at the hotel that night and discounted golf subsequently at Aberdour Golf Club and at the very attractive Burntisland Golf Club. Contact reception@thewoodsidehotel.co.uk if you are interested.

This is always a great day with a fantastic group of CQN’ers.  I look forward to seeing you then.

Great gesture by Scott Brown to donate his Testimonial Game proceeds to various charities, including Liam Miller’s bereaved family.  Let’s hope there are three trophies paraded before kick off that afternoon.

  1. Wee BGFC, time for a history/geography lesson. Buda-pesht is the correct pronunciation. Buda and Pest were 2 separate areas on either side of the Danube and were combined in the late 19th century to become Budapest. The locals still refer to the city as separate parts when talking about it and will refer to somewhere being in Buda or Pest.

It’s a fantastic city but some of the local food is rank! The Széchenyi Baths are fantastic Turkish Baths and you can spend a whole day there.

    Budapest is worth a visit!

    DAVID17 – There are 4 Celtic players ;-)

Yes I realised that after the post, Hendry was the one I omitted, he’s doing fine too.

  3. Jobo, I agree; it’s a decent game and I think Scotland are doing fairly well.

What it does confirm for me is that McGregor and Armstrong are both better players than John McGinn; and more versatile!

McGin for Celtic? No’ for me!

Delaney’s , regarding Andy Lynch. I first remember seeing him play for us in 1975 at Kilbowie , it was a friendly , our reserves versus the Bankes first team.

Andy was playing at centre forward and scored a hat trick. It was also the first time I remember seeing Tommy Burns and Jim ‘Ben’Casey in the hoops.

*I couldnae understand us signing Andy as we had Paul Wilson and Bobby Lennox for the left wing position. After a few brief appearances he disappeared, he resurfaced and seemed to be doing well in the reserved, this was the dreaded year of 1975 when we really needed a boost tae the side.

I was at a SC game at Boagheid we he showed up as the centre and although not scoring had a pretty good game. 3 days later he scored both our goals up at the pen in a 2-3 loss this time from the wing, he retained his place the following Saturday in another loss 0-1 at hame tae the Arabs, our TIAR dream was coming tae an end.

After a scrappy 1-0 against the harry wraggs in the GC he was dropped for the next game a 0-1 loss at Broomfield and was sub for a remarkable 4-1 win over the calvinists, only our 2nd League win since New Years Day when we humphed the Bully Wee 5-1, that loss tae the huns 3 days later really set us back, our defense that day was dire and it continued for the rest of the season, although we could find the net, it was like a sieve, fortunately for us the jambos were not just shot shy but sieve like as well at the back.

Incidentally the game at Kilbowie you’re talking about which I was at as well we won 6-5 with a young tommy cooper scoring 2 for the widow twankies. As I said our defense was brutal. Bankies had a young lad called caskie playing for them, his da was an ex-hun and he looked a prospect, don’t think he got too far though.

Andy again disappeared and then from nowhere was back in the side at left back for the last 3 League games of the season winning a SC medal in Big Billy’s farewell appearance and retaining his place for the “Wilson’s a darkie” 2-2 GC Final. After that I left the country so can’t really say too much about his performances in the hoops.

One thing I will say is that he’s a role model for any up and coming player who is struggling to make it in the side.

  5. BSR, the Széchenyi Baths are massive ands there’s mair o’ them so it’s nae contest!

aaaand , what the fupp is that add thing which has just started popping up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen? I’ve been got by identity murray before : feels like there’s another one on the way!

  10. In spite of the SFA shenanigans, I am happy that Scotland won a match. Hope that’s the start of better things. James Forrest provided an assist for the goal, while the 3 others did well. Glad to see Stuart Armstrong get 70 minutes under his belt.

    Pitch didn’t help good football.

  11. Happy with that a d good performances from all the Celtic lads.

Oh well, back to club football now. Blog always goes downhill when it’s the ole domestic break ;-)

Tontine Tim, thanks for that breakdown of Andy’s early career with us.

I was at the Scottish cup game at Boghead . The last game I was at with my dad and my Uncle Jim.

Andy was our first choice left back to about 1980. He played in the ten men won the league game.

Andy was also our regular penalty taker from the 1977 Cup Final over the next two seasons .

    All four Celts played well.

Paterson and McLean are never International class. Hungary are rank rotten team though.

McKenna was great but what a debut fae big Jack.

Thought McGinn offered the graft and aggression that allowed Stuart and Calmac to play their game.

  15. An Tearmann: Best wishes to your friend. Hope he makes a full recovery.

D17: Hope the Hun fans do wear orange at the Cup semi and for our fans to wear white and green in the relevant sections.

And a five – nil sleeping to boot.

  16. Agree about our bhoys, all played well.

Bloody trouble with ipad not working, nightmare.

A dire game of football between 2 crap teams. Just what was the point of Cummings gaining a cap at the death? He shouldn’t even have been in the squad Murray at Dundee has a much better claim to be included as he has actually scored 6 goals in the SPFL this season, which incidentally is 6 more than Cummings has ever scored in the SPFL.

I’ve posted previously how I was brought up to always support Scots at whatever sport they were participating in but I just can’t accept this corrupt appointment as head coach of Scotland’s football team. This is a step to far the guy is a serial failure who would never made any shortlist based on his achievements in the game.

The fact that he actually abandoned his country previously should has been the deciding factor in his never ever being considered for the post.

The EBT issue is one that will never be discussed outside of Celtic forums, we all know that and have to accept that no one else gives a flying feck about it. The fans are powerless as no one in the press or positions of power are prepared to tackle the issue as they know the shit storm that will come their way.

So for me yes I do hope that Scotland fail and are humped in the coming qualifiers. I then hope and pray they again get humped in the World Cup qualifiers as this will effect all those fans of the so called diddy teams that have invested so much of their money, time and their hopes into the national team.

I’ll accept the eternal pain of the Tartan Army as pay back for their silence when Celtic fans were asking for others to call out the cheats.
