CQN TV on Celtic, Champions League and G.o.D.

466

This is our second CQN TV stint where Glasgow’s hottest model and TV presenter Nicole and social media masters’ student, Suzie, ask me about the season ahead Celtic and our Champions League chances.  I also get a great question about the Generation of Domination, which I’ve not written much about here recently, but you’d better believe it’s coming.

It was great fun talking about Our Celtic, hope you enjoy it.

I had wondered because last I was talking to a woman at a party and who said her boyfriend, who was a big Celtic fan, was from Blantyre and how they used to go to watch Celtic in a bar near the Oval. I’d never hear of Blantyre except through your moniker so thought I’d ask

Chaos mounts as SPL boss Longmuir faces clubs’ call to quit

    By George Grant

    PUBLISHED: 22:00, 8 July 2012 | UPDATED: 22:00, 8 July 2012

David Longmuir is facing calls for his resignation as the Scottish Football League chief executive continues to clash with his members over which division Charles Green’s newco Rangers should play in next season.

It also emerged that if Longmuir’s bid to launch Sevco Scotland Ltd directly into the First Division is rejected by the SFL clubs, then it will result in logistical chaos on the eve of the new season.

Photo of under pressure: David Longmuir gets grilled as Jim Ballantyne looks on

All 30 SFL clubs will meet at Hampden on Friday, when Longmuir will discover their response to a letter he sent out to them at the weekend.

The two main points of that document are that the clubs should first vote on whether or not to accept Sevco Scotland Ltd into the SFL, then, whether they are in favour of allowing the SFL Board (rather than the clubs) to choose which division they will compete in.

The second vote will hinge on the SFL gaining certain concessions from the SPL regarding play-offs and a fairer distribution of income.

Should Longmuir get his way, Board member and SFL President Jim Ballantyne, who is also chairman of Airdrie United, will decline to vote due to a conflict of interest, since the Lanarkshire outfit would, as losing play-off finalists, automatically be promoted to the First Division if Sevco (like any other new applicant) are forced to begin life in the bottom tier.

That will leave Longmuir, vice pres ident Ewen Cameron (Alloa), Anne McKeown (Arbroath), Malcolm Mackay (Queen’s Park), Gordon McDougall (Livingston), Gilbert Lawrie (Dumbarton), Ken Ferguson (Brechin) and Jim Leishman (Dunfermline) to decide the newco’s fate.

However, the contents of the letter have infuriated many SFL clubs, who regard the latest move as an attempt to hijack the democratic procedures of the organisation in order to ensure entry into the First Division for the new-look Rangers.

One chairman said: ‘What they’re attempting to do is scandalous. They’re just making up the rules as they go along.

‘The two main votes will be decided on a straight 16-14 majority. I don’t think that anyone objects to this new Rangers joining the Third Division, but I believe there will be enough dissenters to prevent the Board from gerrymandering them into the First.

‘If Longmuir’s motion is rejected, then his competence would have to be questioned. This is all part of a bullying campaign, which was underlined last week when the SPL’s chief executive, Neil Doncaster, told us that the SPL clubs couldn’t afford to pay the annual £1.8million settlement fee to the SFL if Rangers drop into the Third Division and Sky walk away from their TV deal.

‘Meanwhile, the SFA’s chief executive, Stewart Regan, seems to want to exploit the Rangers crisis in order to push through his own reforms. He’s been working away at this for months.’

If the clubs allow Rangers to join the SFL, but then refuse to grant their Board permission to decide which division they should compete in, then Longmuir would be forced to call another general meeting on July 20 – SFL rules state that five working days’ notice must be given – to vote on that issue.

With the Ramsdens Cup beginning just eight days later, time is running out for the SFL to sort the mess out.

Should Rangers’ SPL place be taken by Dundee, they’ll be away to Brechin City: in the less likely event of Dunfermline avoiding demotion, Ally McCoist’s side will travel to Forfar.

Then again, if Green’s Sevco is denied the opportunity to join the First Division and admitted to the fourth tier, newco Rangers, rather than Stranraer, will have a home tie against Stenhousemuir.

There are less extortionate places but cheap is hard to find. What is the Stars is right. You won’t be able to see it all. If you are not going into Rome on an organised trip, do some research. Pick out the sites you really want to see.

Been to bay of Naples a few times.

Agree about not trying to do Rome in a day.

If you are near Sorrento, there are loads of trips you can do. As well as the ones mentioned already, Ischia is worth a visit. Take swimming gear and go to thermal spas.

Don’t buy the travel agent trips. All the sites are easy to do yourself and public transport is really good. I would avoid going to Naples. Heard a lot of people talking about getting stuff nicked while they were there. If you do go to Naples, stick to the main drags and walk around the city rather than using buses. Most people who got dipped had been on the bus!

Even the Amalfi trip can be done easily from Sorrento by public transport.

Where are you based when you go?

  20. Set sail and leaving the solent so timternet will disappear shortly.

Please God that sense, integrity and decency prevails and the SFL clubs give a resounding NO this week.

If they’re in any doubt the chairmen of the SFL clubs should have a wee gander at Burley’s column today.

    Empty vessels make most noise.

  21. clearly the vote on newco joining sfl division 3 was omitted to force clubs hands and it looks like it will backfire with another delay.

a delay is now on the cards and with any luck a few heads will roll

You will like Sorrento. Have stayed there and in San Agnello, which is about ten minutes away. Trains are regular and cheap. Even going to Vesuvius can be done on the train from Sorrento and taxis or people carriers will take you from the station at pompeii to vesuvius.

If you decide to go to Naples you can go by train or boat from Sorrento. People advised the boat as the Naples train station is dodgy.

Have a great trip. Enjoy the Peroni and gelato.

  23. Surely it’s only a matter of time before an SFL club points out the obvious (which is being fogged over by the MSM and various unofficial spokesmen on behalf of assorted RFC related organisations).

The obvious being that they are not being asked to consider where RFC should play their football next season. The RFC that played in the SPL last season is not being demoted, relegated or in some way banished to the SFL. The RFC that played in the SPL is in liquidation and cannot fulfill it’s obligations to the SPL, and therefore is about to cease to exist.

A new FC is being considered. This is the most important distinction to make in this entire debate, and it’s absurd that our sports media have all but avoided use of this term in the context of the SFL decision. They use the Newco phrase, but fail to make the straightforward link to the rules associated with new FC application requirements.

RFC are not being punished. They are not being repeatedly punished. Or overly punished. They have killed themselves as a football club. On that basis it is ridiculous that the new FC should be asked to consider any sanctions which were imposed on the original RFC. It is totally absurd and contrary to natural justice.

The laws of the game already cater for the situation that Scottish football fins itself in. The laws are there for this specific scenario. They should be applied.

We have spoken about this phenomenon for decades. For generations. We have been ridiculed for talking about this phenomenon. In recent years we have been told that this phenomenon no longer exist. That we are paranoid.

This phenomenon is quite simply the establishment, the establishment in full flow, in full rescue mode. No such thing as the establishment? It is there, influencing, bullying, railroading, gerrymandering and cheating. The establishment is being faced down by orinary people, ordinary football supporters at every level across Scottish football.

I never thought I’d see the day.
