Dangers of a league without whipping boys

792

At 1:45 yesterday afternoon the prospects of Celtic stretching their lead at the top of the table by the end of the day appeared slight.  The tide has turned in Celtic’s favour in recent weeks but leagues are hard to win and we need only think back to how many chances St Mirren peppered Fraser Forster’s goal with to appreciate the difference between winning games and dropping points.

Teams in the SPL are well organised, even eighth place St Mirren, who are on a run of poor form but apart from a couple of lapses defended well, created more chances than Celtic and played with adventure and confidence.

Celtic are the best team in the league but there will not be a single game before the end of the season in which they will be able to take anything for granted.  The result from yesterday we should pay most attention to is bottom of the league Dunfermline’s 0-3 win at Kilmarnock.  This is a league without whipping boys.

  1. Fat Gordon W from the Sunday Mason – “..and had keeper Fraser Forster to thank for keeping superior St Mirren at bay.”

Article below that – “…that denied St Mirren a deserved point.”

Nice to see GW not letting facts get in the way.

    Shots on – 6 vs our 9

    Shots off – 4 vs our 2

    Possession – St Mirren 40%

I think the lack of an attacking mid was the problem until KC came on. 3 goals from set plays (yes Rogne’s was onside) was quite good on a difficult day to play footy.

    Mick: thanks

Yeah I think it looks like a class strip, only complaint is the v-neck collar (which I do like, please let me elaborate this)

Although a fan of v-necks on football strips, I have the current Barca away top, the black one:

Best strip I’ve ever seen let alone had, the second you put it on you know its built for an athlete; which I only class myself as when using satirically.

But the collar is in two cuts, 1 that goes round the back, and then the front fold. The current celtic training tops are exatly the same. I was hoping for those on next seasons.

Seems a silly complaint but anyone who has the current nike stuff will understand.

3-2 City, unreal. Gutted for Tottenham, Glad for coupon ;)

Penalty City. Balotelli brought down by a clumsy challenge from Ledley King

    Balotelli scores. City win 3-2

Should Balotelli have been on the pitch though?

  5. jinkyredstar cuts it back for Neil Lennon on

Was Balotelli booked for the ‘stamp’ – if he was can further action be taken? Or does that only apply in Scotland (the mythical Video Review Panel)

  7. Afternoon lhads and lhassie.Rare day off for me so i have time for a quick post. Fantastic effort from our esteemed manager and the bhoys to go 12 games unbeaten and bring about a 19 point swing.

The thing that really pleased me yesterday was the timing of the substitutions. Last year i think lenny would have stuck with the original selection much longer, possibly costing us a couple of points Yesterday he realised things weren’t working and changed it much quicker. Creative midfielder and target man required up front. Young abrahim and Tony Watt anyone , though i realise this reduces average age of team further.

Don’t get to many games let alone armchair viewing so any comments are bsaed on opinion only. Big thanks to all who update during games.

I don’t normally listen to transfer rumour nor post any, however a cousin who works in london texted me yesterday. Couple of spurs fans in his office confirming the rumours of pavlyunchenko joining us on loan. Maybe p1sh but you never know.

Big hail hail tae yes all. lbb

Speaking of new strips, well Mick was, I noticed that Adidas are ending their long-term relationship with Liverpool FC, ostensibly due to a perceived lack of value provided by the Reds. They are being replaced by an American company linked to the club’s new owners, for a reputed £25 million plus per annum. Over the years I have got used to teams like Liverpool and Bayern Munich wearing the Adidas style, though their efforts with Rangers were a sartorial disaster. I wonder if Liverpool will lose some of their wider appeal by switching to a less familiar design, American soccer league strips haven’t produced one classic yet.

Agree with the sentiment. Clubs have a lot to play for. 2 teams are battling relegation and cannot afford to write off a Celtic or rangers game as unwinnable. Others are fighting to stay in or attain a top 6 place and most have taken points off us recently so will have lost fear.

In most years, leagues have been difficult to win. There have rarely been easy points or guaranteed wins. That is why every league win should be celebrated and never marked down as in “my wife/sister/pet dog/Ally McCoist could have won that with this Celtic team”.

Talking of Rangers, a bluenosed pal of mine has had trouble sleeping recently. Trying to count sheep he says he always gets to 51, 52 , 53 , 54…” and then he has to tart from 0 again. Can anyone help him with his sleep problem? :-)

  18. Lads/lassie’s bit of advice, what is the cheapest way to get internet access in the house, is it with a tv package(sky) or another way?

  19. Saw the sunday mason today and almost fainted. Waddell column was all about the tax case. Tick tick tick.

Was a real shock. Must have broken his heart to write it.

Ah, the perils of an editor who is not your brother.

His match report though was vintage Waddell. Just could not bring himself to say we were better. What a bassa that clown is.

I am delighted with Man. Cities win and why would that be ? well I just cant stand Arry Redknapp he is seen as a top manager in the EPL and yet he Bankrupted Portsmouth him and th Chairman with there over spending and high wage structure and he has spent a fortune at Spurs and they dont look like winning anything hes not in the same class as Lennie. H.H.
