Decision still to be made

294

When Celtic made the decision to offer Ange Postecoglou the manager’s job, the deal was done within 48 hours, most of which was spent dealing with his employer.

If nothing else, the club have been thorough this time. Candidates have been interviewed, including Brendan, who is without an employer, but there has been no rush to appoint.

Despite having a strong offering and good applicants, there is nervousness at board level, these decisions have huge consequences.

All you and me know for sure is that the decision has not been made, despite affirmation to the contrary.  There’s no way Celtic are sitting on a decision.

  1. Once Brendan has delivered another 2-3 titles and he is off back to the EPL, we can welcome Ange back who will be managing in Cyprus by then.

  2. Here’s to AT.

Told me he had 5 mins last night and gave me an hour. Called the big mhan at stupid o’clock. His fault for answering.

Yesterdays leader ‘pubic scrutiny’ surely doesn’t suggest most showed appointments?

It’s Wednesday folks. Day closer to another game.

    As Elton John said……

  3. So, a decision has not been made….

    But,

Celtic are not sitting on a decision…..

Can someone help me understand that one?

  4. What a beautiful noise

    Comin’ up from the street

    Got a beautiful sound

    It’s got a beautiful beat

    It’s a beautiful noise

    Goin’ on ev’rywhere

    Like the clickety-clack

Of a train on a track

    It’s got rhythm to spare

    It’s a beautiful noise

    And it’s a sound that I love

And it fits me as well

As a hand in a glove

Yes it does, yes it does . . .

  5. Understand being cautious but uncertainty is not good when it could tip a swithering player into a decision to move, wouldn’t like to go much beyond next week.

  6. Well that’s better than it’s not brendan.

What will be will be but I’m an impatient bhoy.

  7. There is nervousness in the boardroom!!!!…..I bet there is …the thought of spending money…I wonder where most of the nervousness is coming from 😄

  8. Garngad to Croy on

If Brendan wants the job then get it done as he is the best available . If however the story is being touted to suit the agenda of both parties then it could be a long and painful couple of weeks.

  10. I feel for p67. He’s been hung out to dry on this one. Hopefully we’ll have a return to his usual standard fairly soon.

  11. If you want a bit more clarity from our custodian, tune in. Looks like Twitter & the tranny are getting slightly different messages from our pre-scheduled blog.

  12. Brendan Rodgers is currently 1/20 with some bookies.

Wonder what the odds are of the past few articles on here remaining online?

  17. It looks like the new manager will be BR I’m very keen to see the makeup of his assistant coaches and backroom team, we brought in many players from around the globe with varying levels of success but not involving huge fees ccv and jota being the exceptions, hopefully the transfer model continues maybe bernabei can get a run at outside left as he isn’t a left back, rotate with maeda if he stays or jota who is the best left winger we have. Fingers crossed , we didn’t need this turmoil having won another treble.

Brendan Rodgers’ “terrible” record in Europe:

Three seasons – two x CL group stages, two x knockout stage European football, responsible for 100% of knockout wins in Europe since 03-04 and as many CL away points as every other Celtic manager combined.

Probably would have been a bit better if he had got in the quality he spoke about ahead of his third season.

  20. Waiting on an announcement of a new manager is a bit like an updates thread on a game. We hear it’s Rodgers there’s excitement like at the beginning of a game. Negotiations going well , first ten minutes it’s all us only a matter of time before a goal.

Twenty minutes in , no goals, no announcement, blog gets agitated.

I’d say we’re at the half hour mark and tensions are rising. God help us if there’s no white smoke by halftime or Friday.

Patience is something I’ve learned the hard way. Something will happen eventually.

  21. Celtic are in no rush to make a decision, but Celtic is not sitting on a decision and no decision is made. Linguistic gymnastics at its finest.

Why don’t you just say that BR was offered the job but has yet to put pen to paper then? or is that not the narrative previously spoon fed by PL?

  22. If Rodgers comes, and he wouldn’t consider it unless he was given assurances, would he overall consider it a case of he lost the battle but won the war with Lawwell?

  23. AIPPLE

In that case if I was making the decision it would have been over very quickly :-)))))

  24. WHAT IS THE STARZ on 14TH JUNE 2023 12:17 PM

  25. Paul: “When Celtic made the decision to offer Ange Postecoglou the manager’s job, the deal was done within 48 hours, most of which was spent dealing with his employer.”

    – – –

Very different circumstances. We had already offered Howe the job after weeks of negotiations. Ange was an easy fish to catch and he had next to no bargaining power compared to Howe or BR.

Paul: “If nothing else, the club have been thorough this time. Candidates have been interviewed, including Brendan, who is without an employer, but there has been no rush to appoint.”

Or, in this case, rush to accept? If nothing else, the Board and BR have a lot to nail down to prevent another apocalyptic fall out sometime down the road. The lawyers will have lawyers checking the small print. BR is taking a huge gamble with what is left of his reputation. If he is undermined and underfunded which results in dismal CL results and losing the title he will struggle to get another big gig.

A few days to ensure everyone is happy makes sense to me.

  26. If Brendan is back and Lawwell is back- nobody has won a war.

As for assurances about being backed in Europe- how would he or we even know?

Nobody has ever said “Forget Europe- we’re not gonna bother trying”. That’s just a fan and failed manager response to getting knocked out. There is no amount of money that Celtic are capable of attracting and using that can guarantee anything, not even a win over a lesser funded team.

    Getting automatic entry to the Group Stages is helpful. If we can get out of a group and have post 16 CL, we will do our bit but we also need Sevco, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs to do something in Europe too for us to fight off Austria, Turkey, Switzerland, Serbia and Ukraine/Russia etc;
