Decision still to be made

294

When Celtic made the decision to offer Ange Postecoglou the manager’s job, the deal was done within 48 hours, most of which was spent dealing with his employer.

If nothing else, the club have been thorough this time. Candidates have been interviewed, including Brendan, who is without an employer, but there has been no rush to appoint.

Despite having a strong offering and good applicants, there is nervousness at board level, these decisions have huge consequences.

All you and me know for sure is that the decision has not been made, despite affirmation to the contrary.  There’s no way Celtic are sitting on a decision.

    Gutted when Brendan left …

Always gutted when our manager leaves from big Billy in the 80s to Ange in the 2020s, only two ways a Celtic manager leaves … failure or too successful

4yrs ago I didn’t think I would want Brendan anywhere near Celtic … the last few weeks … I would be delighted

That old phrase … time is a great healer

Hardly been on the blog but when you take a wee break and look in some posters really seem to despise our host … I value P67 giving a lot of us the opportunity to use this platform for many great Celtic things but surely our host can post whatever article he wants … some seem to want to ridicule on a daily basis, I just read what P67 thinks and treat his words like any other Celtic fans opinion …

By the way if it’s Brendan our host will be slaughtered and if it’s not he will be in PLs inner sanctum …

It’s a funny old game, I thought Ange wouldn’t leave and Brendan would never be back … am comfortable with never being correct that often …

Anyhow main point (if any) we have been very very fortunate in this millennium with terrific managers and if Brendan is our next manager … I think he will actually be less gung-ho than his previous spell and I actually think we will be getting a better manager this time around with many points to prove, good times ahead with a wee European run …

    Hail Hail

  2. Oh, I still huvnae forgiven he who I call the fraud for extracting the urine out of us by telling our great club and support that he would be here for the 10, he never even saw us complete the 8, so, what’s the difference with him, and ange with his breast beating and it would surprise us if we knew how long he was staying, nae kiddin cobber

Well lets take a wee look at both sets of circumstances, after being forced to retire prematurely brendan worked as a youth coach with Reading progressing to academy director where he caught the eye of the “pretentious one” after a recommendation by his assistant the current national manager team to join the Chelsea Academy as their head youth coach where he then was promoted to reserve team manager two years later, and was kept in that position by succeeding pensioners managers Avram Grant and Luiz Felipe Scolari.

2 years later he was off on his travels, this time to Watford as manager, he only stayed there for 1 season before he was off once more but NOT after saying that his “concentration was fully on Watford”, as Jimmy Ruffin once said “I’ve passed this way before, the Watford Supporters’ Trust though stated that Rodgers’ reputation was “severely damaged” in the eyes of the supporters as a result of the move, but they nevertheless “thanked him for his efforts last season, wishing him well for the future, 6 moths later his contract was terminated with Reading sitting one place above relegation in the Championship.

It didnae seem to do his reputation too much arm or else he didnae just kiss the blarney stone but put the heid on it, as within 7 months he accepted an offer to become the manager of Championship side Swansea City, although prior to that he had been asked to join the coaching staff at Roberto Mancini’s Man City under manager Roberto Mancini.

This move paid off as he managed to thanks to a Scott Sinclair hattrick lead the Swans to become the first Welsh side to reach the Premier League and where the performed admirable, in fact so much that in January of that season he won his first Premier League Manager of the Month award, followed by him signing a new three-and-a-half-year contract to keep him at the club until July 2015.

Now this is the “fraud”, as us Tims labeled him, we are talking about as and within 4 months he was unveiled as the new Liverpool manager on a three-year contract, following the departure of Kenny Dalglish two weeks prior, now I m not going to go over his tenure at Annfield as it’s well known, suffice to say that 2 years later he signed a new four-year contract at Liverpool, saw as we can see this door does swing 2 ways as 5 months later he was given the bum’s rush.

Well as the song says “if you know your history” and hopefully we all do as after completing a double treble he said that he turned down an approach from a Chinese club during the summer but after being sent for by the “headmaster” he then uttered “with China it’s big money, but I’ve found happiness here.”, wtf it was no secret in the boardrooms of the country and also down south that he wanted out but it was hoped he would give us a bit of notice.

Unknown to us Leicester were extremely unhappy with their at the time current manager Claude Puel and had targeted brendan to take over in January 2019, but suddenly their results picked up with away wins at West Ham and Newcastle as well as a cup win over Wigan, so he was given a short reprieve and the move was put on hold, but then they slumped again and we don know our history and he was told as the king once sung “its now or never” and in true fraud form he was off leaving us in the lurch.

Although history will tell us that he led us to the Scottish League Cup in December, his seventh successive trophy, and when he did a midnight the following February, we were leading the Premiership by eight points, what it will NOT say is that we had two trips to Edinburgh, league and cup duty, within days of his leaving, which was hostile territory to him and yet a big John Kennedy, according to Lenny, led us to victory in both.

So, after a disastrous Covid season when the scruff wrecked Glasgow and our intended manager reneged, well his coaching staff did, and he didnae want tae come up tae radio rental Glesga without them, we then turned our attentions tae Ange who the smsm in true hun fashion labelled a breest.

Now I, who pride myself in my knowledge of the working man’s gemme and was well aware of WTT and Dr. Jo before they were appointed hudnae a clue about Ange but a couple of e-mails tae Botany Bay or thereabouts confirmed that we might have the new Jock Stein on our hands, aye he was that good.

His managerial career, including club and national in Oz, was pretty successful, much in the minor coaching roles that BR had, that led to him being appointed coach at Panachaiki, but it was NOT his coaching style that failed but the basket case club’s owner who had bundles of money BUT zero fitba acumen, as a result within a year he was back in Melbourne at the National Premier Leagues Victoria 2, this led him to the successful Brisbane Roar as well as a succession of national sides before he headed for Japan where he then made his name before cumin over to rescue us, or so it seems.

Not much to compare the 2 men too as the english leagues are far more notable but it should be noted that both of them have used us as a stepping stone and we should acknowledge that we knew BR would do that but NOT in the manner he did like the biblical “thief in the night”, if he had waited until the end of the season we would have been exasperated, aye, but accepted that if we sign promising players with the caveat that if they are successful we will NOT stand in their way should a bigger club sniff around then so be it with managers and it looks as if Ange was following that course, only difference was he did hang around until till the treble was secured, but lets be perfectly honest it looks now if it was a bit of a chore just like BRs last part season was for him.

So, in saying all that and remembering WGS comment that a club like us have at best a 4 years shelf life for ANY manager we could extend the olive branch to the former manager we once hail hailed as the Blessed Brendan and first serenaded “Last Christmas” to but now labelled fraudgers or ratgers.

I get all that as well … my 14yr old feels as if Ange has deserted her and “he better not come back for Kyogo or Jota” am loving her being raging …

As Ange said the fans are always there … it’s just how each and every fan wants to see things …

I actually quite like the fact that Brendan (if he gets the gig) is up for it after the way he left …

Celtic winning is what we want and I think he will give us a a winning Celtic team … (if he gets the gig) 🍀

I never said he was wrong, his continual blowing smoke up his own arse about the reams of books he’s written, the plays he’s written and how gifted his children are become tiresome the second time you read it. He seems like a man that needs reassurance on an almost hourly basis on how brilliant he himself believes himself to be. He mocks the SMSM for being stenographers, when he himself is only blogging information given to him by someone else. I’m sure that has gone right over his head.

  9. For all the criticism our senior management are getting it looks as if they were ahead of the game after all when you realise why was BR at the cup final and giving the thumbs up then.

I get it now, it’s because he’s a Fenian writer/journalist/blogger that irks you so much.

Perhaps the delay lies in the PR department’s crafting and finessing of the statements and soundbites Brendan will use to satisfactorily explain his decision to drop us like a hot spud.

I’ll welcome him back and commend the Board for getting him in again. More qualified than Ange even.

And as far as pre-season dramas to keep us all Celtic watching, this soapie is as good as it gets. HH

Fireside Fenians, i’ve met plenty of those over the years.

Turning on one of yer own. Aye, Ireland knows all about the likes of you.

Calling out, could hardly be termed as ‘turning on’ unless one is, to use a popular term, a real snowflake. We could all sit by the fire and sing the songs and write novellas, safe in the knowledge that the chances of the front door hitting the opposite gable wall is less than 0.1% There has been a substantial increase in hard men since 1998.

Sionnaigh, the plural of Fox in the Irish language. Are there more than one of you using this account? Or is this faux pas on your behalf Sionnach.

  17. Another day has passed and still no green and white smoke from Celtic Park.

Maybe we could commandeer some of the flares much beloved of the green brigade.

Whoever appears on the balcony will inherit a team rich in talent and potential, an overflowing biscuit tin and a fan base hungry for CL success.

I’ve no doubt he, or she, will receive our full support.

I honestly wonder if these people have a functioning cortex.

If BR had an 80 point average haul over 2.5 seasons that equates to 96 points average per full season.

    (96/96/48 over 3 periods measured 1/1/½)

    Here’s an offer for you.

You finish each of the next five seasons on 92 points and we’ll finish on 96 each time.

    Deal ?
