Decision still to be made

294

When Celtic made the decision to offer Ange Postecoglou the manager’s job, the deal was done within 48 hours, most of which was spent dealing with his employer.

If nothing else, the club have been thorough this time. Candidates have been interviewed, including Brendan, who is without an employer, but there has been no rush to appoint.

Despite having a strong offering and good applicants, there is nervousness at board level, these decisions have huge consequences.

All you and me know for sure is that the decision has not been made, despite affirmation to the contrary.  There’s no way Celtic are sitting on a decision.

    Brilliant.

  2. The other candidates we have allegedly spoken with certainly are not very experienced and I certainly felt underwhelmed by comparison to Brendan.

Will it be an Adidas Friday tomorrow.

    🙏

  3. Some great, and respectful, debate over the past few weeks.

Lots of valid points, many of which are contradictory.

I hope, whatever happens next, CQN continues in the same vein.

Would be disappointing if we see polarised positions again.

“Yeah, great point mate – but are you team Rodgers or team Lawwell?”

The discussion is more complex than that. The issues more varied

  4. One Saturday morning we had a practice match and manager Ron Greenwood played him with the first-team players. One of the lads laid a ball to him and it was like fast-forwarding through the next 20 years of British football — he took it perfectly, dropped a shoulder, turned and curled it into the far corner of the net.

Our reserves didn’t know what had hit them. Both sets of players just stopped and applauded.

I can remember talking to Ron about him after that game.

‘Will we get him?’ I asked. ‘No chance,’ he said. ‘We’ve tried. Everybody wants him, but he’s going to Celtic.’

  5. Waiting for the announcement from the Celtic Park steps today:

“The war is over, the Rodgers have won”

WHAT IS THE STARZ on 15TH JUNE 2023 7:33 AM

Meanwhile far away in another side of town Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell were just driving around, the number 1 contender for the vacant Celtic crown…when the cops pulled them over to the side of the road…just like the time before and the time before that…

    —————

In Glasgow that’s just the way it goes, if you’re a Tim, you’d better not show up on the street, unless you wanna draw the heat!

I was driving along the M8 westbound this morning behind a big tanker-type truck whose logo said “Purveyers of White Smoke for all occasions”.

It eventually exited onto the M73 towards the East End of Glasgow.

I got so excited I peed my pants. Just a little bit.

When Brendan is announced, will as many people turn up at Celtic Park as did first time around?

    ————–

    Yes.

Also remember Brendan consigned the giant covers over the top tiers to the dustbin. He added thousands to our home games.

As someone who was devastated when BR left I was more interested in why he left

We were all fed the, he ran away, line

    I never bought that

There was something more to it than that

I suspected (obviously not known) there was a clash with Peter Lawwell

Regardless of the reason he left I hope it has been reconciled if he is to return

Lawwell senior and junior are key parts of our set up I hope they have completely bought into DDs plan.

Exiting times but I sense we could be about to take off. Hold tight

Do we think the Jolly Rodger will be hoisted over Celtic Park today

I am patient to wait but the rekord and murdochs contribution to morning wild camps

    àppears to be settled

What do the Celtic Star think CD?

P67 appears not to be onboard with the rest of the Cellic bloggerati,

Celtic Dawn would you welcome back Ange Postecoglou in say 2 years time?

  13. The reaction from rangers fans is really lured / negative about Brendan.

The whole ‘he had no competition and shat himself when Stevie G came to town’ narrative is what they cling onto.

  14. Rodgers left last time because he had ambitions to manage at a higher level than Scottish football.

If he gets the job again, he’ll leave because he has ambitions to manage at a higher level (or he’ll be sacked for failing, which hopefully won’t happen)

How do you know it is DD’s plan that they need to ‘buy into’ ? And not an executive plan which DD & PL buy into. That is surely the way a plc should work. Even more as DD has a minority position.

How do you know the bad blood existed / carried on ?

Sky News’ political editor Beth Rigby earlier read from the online copy of the report that one of its findings is that Johnson had “impujjed” the committee.

I’m not trying to impugn her journalistic credentials, but is she maybe looking to get a move to football punditry?

The zombies and their bravado/straw clutching – Ange left because he was bricking it from Beale(lol) who had the beating of him – you’d think they’d be disappointed Ange is gone if that were true – but no, celebrating his departure and singing ‘Ange Postecoglous away’ (thats imaginitive for them tbf), tells you they know they can only beat us in a dead rubber.

Wait till the penny drops that whoever our manager is we are streets ahead of them on and off the park…

I would welcome Ange back. The progress of Celtic trumps all other considerations for me. My personal feelings dont come in to it.

PS I would actually like to see a Jolly Roger hoisted instead of using white smoke for a change:)

  19. Rodgers faced a Hun team full of english championship level players on the cheap, last time.

    Nice one. Very measured.

I’d suggest though that Lawwell senior is not key to the relationship with the football department moving forward.

Mark Lawwell certainly is of course.

Peter Lawwell (as Chairman) doesn’t need to be anywhere near it.

Assuming Brendan comes in (still an “if”)

    In my head ….

Best case scenario: two strong personalities who clashed before but who both hold Celtic dear to their hearts … Show a bit of humility, kiss and make up.

Very worst case: they stay out of each others way with Lawwell junior and Nicholson providing a VERY effective buffer.
