Decision still to be made

294

When Celtic made the decision to offer Ange Postecoglou the manager’s job, the deal was done within 48 hours, most of which was spent dealing with his employer.

If nothing else, the club have been thorough this time. Candidates have been interviewed, including Brendan, who is without an employer, but there has been no rush to appoint.

Despite having a strong offering and good applicants, there is nervousness at board level, these decisions have huge consequences.

All you and me know for sure is that the decision has not been made, despite affirmation to the contrary.  There’s no way Celtic are sitting on a decision.

I don’t think it is crazy to suggest that our recruitment strategy has turned a £15-20m outlay this past 2 years into a £100m squad value.

While we all ponder whether or not Brendan Rodgers will take the job or it’s all a smokescreen for one or both parties and he is off to some other club and Celtic have lined up someone else, a more important question for me is when was the last time Big Jimmy posted? I hope all is well with him and he’s too busy making paupers out of the bookies to post!

    Hail, hail Big Jimmy

  5. Are Barcelona owned by the fans?

Barcelona is a members-owned club, with over 144,000 members, and fans are encouraged to become members.

This means that Barcelona is not owned outright by a single individual and decisions regarding the future direction of the club are made by the members.

The club motto Mes Que Un Club (More Than a Club) is central to the idea of being members-led, applying a democratic approach to an institution that is synonymous with Catalan pride.

We will often hear from the Barcelona president, but that individual is not the owner of the club; merely a part-owner, elected by other owners.

The Barcelona presidential elections are held every six years, but may take place earlier in exceptional circumstances.

How much debt does Barcelona have? (May 06, 2022)

Barca president Joan Laporta revealed in August 2021, shortly after Messi’s emotional departure to Paris Saint-Germain, that the club’s debts had risen to €1.35 billion (£1.13bn/$1.42bn).

Tying the Argentine icon to another lucrative contract would have pushed them above a salary cap that La Liga are prepared to deem acceptable, with serious cost-cutting measures needing to be put in place.

Laporta said after returning to office at Camp Nou as successor to the ousted Josep Maria Bartomeu: “Our salaries represent 103% of the club’s total income, that’s 20-25% more than our competitors.

“The first thing we had to do when we arrived was to ask for a loan of 80m euros because, otherwise, we could not pay the salaries. The previous regime was full of lies.

“Barcelona has a negative net worth of 451m euros – it is a terrible inheritance. What has been happening is very worrying.”

Barca’s debts included almost €390m (£334m/$412m) in player salaries, more than €670m (£574m/$708m) owed to banks, while the global coronavirus pandemic cost them roughly €91m (£78m/$96m).

The club had losses of €481m (£412m/$508m) for the last year, leaving them with a negative net worth of €451m (£386m/$477m) – with revenue down 26 per cent in 2020-21 to €631m (£541m/$667m).

Laporta has worked to reduce salaries by about €200m (£171m/$211m), with Messi departing while the likes of Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets have agreed to reductions in their respective wage packets.

Samuel Umtiti is another to have signed reduced terms, while Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho was loaned out to Aston Villa in January and 18-year-old winger Yusuf Demir saw a loan agreement with Rapid Vienna ripped up.

Good post – many scoff at suggestions that we are one of the best clubs in the world, I probably used to laugh too, but in reality if you’re asking someone to name bigger and better clubs, they start rhyming off artificially big thanks to TV EPL sides, Qatari or Saudi backed sides, Spanish clubs 1bn+ plus in debt or Italian clubs posting 200m+ losses(Milan posted a 66m loss and this was considered a good outcome compared to others).

They say we can’t compete at the top table but take none of this into account.

Our growth will be off the scale when Lawwell gets his jotters and stops holding deals up :)

  11. Must confess, I don’t see any inconsistency with Paul’s recent articles.

Paul tells us no deal is done (and it appears no deal is done). Paul suggests we have spoken with more than one candidate (and we appear to have spoken with more than one candidiate)

is cooling the Rodger’s Return story. There isn’t any doubt that he has well connected sources.

I’ve seen one well connected journalist say ‘it’s all but a done deal’.

Getting quite excited now about Rodgers coming back.

Our record win at the Bigot Dome was the 5-1 thumping under him. He was a regular hun skelper and brought in the right players to do the skelping!

This is one of the most idiotic things I have ever read on here. Some people really believe in the importance of their own verbosity. Nobody at Celtic gives a damn about what is said on here. And that was even true when we were spoiled for articulate posters.

I don’t think I have ever told anyone to get a life before but for you pair I think I will make an exception

Count me in re being excited by the prospect of Brendan’s return ..ok he made a mistake in the manner that he left …but he is a Celt to the core ..anyone who doubts this should have witnessed his oration and tears at Tommy Burns graveside a few years back. Also quite simply the psychological impact …he terrifies them 🍀

Also very nice excited to see him improve the already very good players we have here. Abada needs a Rodger’s figure for me to get his confidence up and have him properly firing. He’s a fantastic talent on his game and we’re lucky to have him.

He’ll definitely end up in the EPL. Hopefully for a huge some like Kieran.

The one thing I remember about Rogers’ impact, was that he made most of our current players much better, and doing that with this current crop of players will be some upgrade.

Can see clearly now why the currants are macaroniing their pants. 😂👍
